SCA Standards?

topic posted Thu, February 7, 2008 - 8:48 PM by  offlineJim
I have just read the entire Society level fencing rule book and the blade appendix and I can find no definition of a dagger or a rapier. I am specifically looking for the maximum length for a dagger and can find none. This leads me to believe that if there is such a definition it must be up to the individual kingdoms. Is this in fact the case, or can daggers and rapier blades be pretty much any length?

Northshield rules - Down and dirty are as follows...

Daggers - 18" max length, no minimum, as long as there is a 1/4" flex with a standard weight (I believe 85 gm)

Light/Heavy rapier - No max length in writing. Minimum 30.5" blade with 1/2" flex on above weight standard.

One kingdom, anyway. Hope that helps you, Jim.

I "believe" there is a maximum sword (blade) length of 45". I have heard this numerous times or that may just be Pennsic. I have never heard of a hard/fast rule of dagger length. We use society standards here in Atlantia.
