    Actually there is plenty of books. Look for authors like Al Stohlman, Paul Burnett or Peter Main. A good introduction to carving is Al Stohlman's Tech Tips, available at any Tandy, Leatherfactory or similar shop

      All those are good,as Bigfoot said.but if you are doing some thing for A&S you should check the Atlantia A&S site for Ref.

      There is a on going debate if some tooling is period or not.

      Ether way ,if you are wanting to learn tooling the names Bigfoot gave are great.

    Dude! If you wanted a lesson on leather carving you should have stopped by my camp at pennsic! I'd have shown you a bunch of tricks. I bring tools and leather to war every year!

      Sorry I never took you up on that lesson, I was a bit busy with an injurred Girl friend this year.
