I have about a four mile ride from my apartment to my college. On this ride I usually enjoy the somewhat fresh air, and the ambient noises of the southern Californian traffic as I fly by on my tall bike. What made one particular ride on the 14th of October so unusual was that I was hit by a car. J What happened was that as I was crossing the intersection of Erringer and Cochran St, (an intersection of which I had the right of way being that I had the little walk light guy telling me to cross) I thought it would be fine like every other time I crossed it, except this time I had a surprise waiting for me about half way across in the form of a white Toyota. I’m guessing this guy was in a bit of a hurry because he didn’t feel the need to stop at a red light while making a right turn. Little did he know that he would turned right into me. Needless to say, it threw me from my bike with a loud crash, then a loud smack from me hitting the ground, then a thump from him running my left arm over. It was really crazy, and I know that God must have been watching over me because I walked away from the whole thing with only a few scratches and bruises. nothing broken except by bike (which is on the drawing board as we speak). Yeah, my bike only took minor damage, and will be working again in no time (that thing is built like a tank). To end the story on a good note, the guy got out of his car saying he was so sorry, and that he did not see me. (a reminder for all of you “I was on my tall bike”!!) he then proceeded to ask me if I was alright, I said I thought I was, but that my bike was all messed up, the guy felt so bad in fact that he reached into his wallet, handed me a 20 said he was sorry one last time then jumped in his car and sped off. This guy must have needed to be somewhere, because he just left me there, and me still being a little out of it because of what had just happened didn’t get any of his info. (darn) Another cool thing about this story is that no one else stopped to see if I was alright. I guess I can’t expect everyone to be Minnesota nice. Well i guess that is all I’ve got to say about the War in Vietnam.

There are a couple of things I could use prayer through this whole experience would be safety while riding that beast, and that I would be able to live a life worthy of Christ’s name through my actions, and that I would be able to have the tall bike be a useful part of that ministry, and not a distraction.

I love you guys, “especially you Lieutenant Dan,” and I hope to talk to you later.
Your brother in Christ.

If you have not seen the movie “Forest Gump” completely disregard the comments about Vietnam, and Lieutenant Dan. Hahahaha…….

  • I just saw this post now! Crazy!

"Sorry i ran you over... here's $20, that'll make it okay right?"

he was only in a hurry to get out of there because he knew it was his fault and he'd end up paying for you and your bike. And in your shocked state that $20 probably looked like a roll of wire for the welder and a good deal. (i know all about it... having been hit a few times myself... i did learn a little something after the first couple though) Anyway, i'm glad you're all right!
