Green energy--including solar and wind power--is difficult to get a handle on. In the interest of grid stability, dispatchable sources of back-up power are often needed to manage the spikes and dips. And the economics of green energy are somewhat opaque, because of hidden subsidies.
On another board, some participants claim that Danes have higher electricity costs than any of their neighbors, and that it's because of their emphasis on wind power. Do you think that there's any truth to that?

Sat, August 22, 2009 - 1:46 AMNot sure. But on the flip side, Norway's got fairly inexpensive electricity. The reason for this is that most of their power is hydroelectric.

Tue, August 25, 2009 - 9:39 AMIn the U.S., it seems that the sporadic areas of windpower are cheaper than coal-fired power. Though I can't speak for Scandinavia.
