The hookah lounge needs your help

Are you or someone you know driving to the playa from the south-east this year? The hookah lounge has some things that we need sent out to the playa and back. The most important thing is our fire table that we use as the centerpiece in our camp, but other items are carpets and one of our gazebos. We'll take any space that you can spare, though, and can drive to your city to drop off/pick up the stuff.

If you were planning to rent a trailer for your stuff, we have a 10' trailer you could borrow which should have 3/4ths of the space empty (A V8 is needed if you are packing this up, though). In addition, if the early entrance gods smile nicely upon us, you can also get early playa entrance (for sunday aug 24). If you have no specific plans, you can join us at our theme camp and not have to worry about dinner (we don't cook breakfast and usually no lunch) and have a great shade area/chill space while at the burn at our luxurious location on Allante at 5:00.

If you're unfamiliar with our theme camp, you can see some of our pictures here
http://thehookahlounge.110mb.com/gallery.htm

Please contact me asap at fjordandkimshookahlounge at gmail.com if you think you can help us get some of our lounge to the playa. The list is short because we pretty much have another set of equipment in a storage locker out west, but our table is unique, and the other things we just don't have out there.

Love and hugs,
F'jord

Burning Man's statement on Transformus 2008

Dear Interested parties and attendees of Transformus:

We write you today to address the recent wave of public comment and
question about the status of Transformus as an official Burning Man
Regional Event. Beginning in March 2008, Burning Man has been in
receipt of multiple comments and complaints regarding certain aspects of
the production of Transformus and as of Monday, June 23, we made an
official statement to the Transformus LLC members regarding this matter.

Transformus is a Burning Man Regional Event that requested and received
its “official” status in 2005, during its first year in existence. As
you may know, any event that is designated as an official Burning Man
Regional Event has a relationship with one or more Burning Man Regional
Contacts, who must agree that the event will uphold and adhere not only
to Burning Man’s Ten Principles
(http://regionals.burningman.com/network_principles.html), but to an
additional set of criteria required by Burning Man designed to assure
that the event is actually legal, permitted, insured, of benefit to the
entire community, and available to all who wish to attend.

Whenever one or more formal complaints are made about an event or a
Regional Contact, Burning Man makes careful effort to address them
directly. There is a process for a formal investigation into the
allegations made in a Regional Contact/Regional Event complaint, one
that includes interviewing and engaging with as many members of the
local community as possible to gather information and make inquiry. (If
you are not familiar with the process to send us feedback about things
happening in your region, please take a look at this page:
http://regionals.burningman.com/regional_feedback.html.)

The member of the Transformus Board of Directors had themselves been
active in asking for support and guidance from Burning Man over the past
several months as the problems with this event came to a head; in fact,
in light of those requests and the comments and complaints we had
received, Burning Man sent its Regional Network Coordinator Bex Workman
to Asheville, NC in April to meet in person with the Transformus Board
of Directors as well as members of the local community to try to gain a
better understanding into the issues the organization was facing and try
to offer some support.

Part of Bex’s purpose on this trip was to obtain information and
background from as many sources as possible, and by sending a staff
member to engage in person we hoped to come to better understand the
ticketing and technology issues with Transformus that had been brought
up for review. This visit was in addition to a number of visits that Bex
had made to the area, including two annual trips to the Transformus
Work/Play weekend, and she and Steven Raspa had both made multiple other
check-in visits with active Transformus community members over the past
3 years. Both individuals had been involved in many emails and phone
conversations and mentoring with various Transformus leadership as welll.

After Bex’s most recent visit, and following months of investigation,
many phone calls, visits and conversations, the Regional Committee has
come to the conclusion that Transformus, as it exists today, has not
been able to operate in full alignment with the principles and criteria
required to be an official Burning Man Regional event in 2008.
Specifically, the investigation has determined that the event has been
unable to uphold the tenets of Civic Responsibility and Transparency.
For example, this was seen in its inability to notify participants of
their invitations in a timely fashion, and to clearly and publicly
illustrate the methodology and fairness of that invitation process – as
of this writing there still seems to be ambiguity and frustration for
some participants, and dissent about the nature of the process, and a
need for a public address of the grievances that have been raised.

One other example is the Board Of Directors’ failure to post timely
and detailed accountings of previous events’ financial reports to the
community, either through the event’s announce list, the regional
announce lists, or through the Transformus website; timely, transparent
accounting is a strong requirement in order to maintain good standing as
a Burning Man Regional Event, but it is especially important when there
have been accusations of inaccuracy in bookkeeping. We have made
recommendations about when and how to share this bookkeeping that have
not been able to be met, although we are aware that the group are still
actively pursuing making this posting.

Among the complaints that were shared with Burning Man, some of the
most prominent were related to incomplete bookkeeping and imprecise
nature of the invitation process. As we understand it, efforts are
underway to remedy this matter, but in the strictest sense, the prior
Transformus events have failed to follow the guidelines outlined by
Burning Man and cannot truly be said to have upheld those standards.

It was a very difficult decision for us to move to suspend Transformus’
official status; however, the value in having and engaging in the
Burning Man Regional Network lies in the ability to truly identify that
certain standards and benchmarks of the Burning Man community are in
place for any event, and if they cannot be met or verified readily by
the casual observer or participant, even by the best efforts of the
persons involved, it is our duty to encourage the production team to act
to bring things back into alignment, as well as to inform the public
about our official position on the event.

In this case, although we do not believe any individual engaged in
wrongdoing, we do believe that the business entity behind Transformus is
clearly faced with a need to stop and reflect, as they have done, and in
the meantime, the current state of affairs has left little choice but to
act to address the complaints and agree that Transformus organization as
it stands is not in a position to be identified officially as a Regional
Event in 2008.

However, although Burning Man has announced that Transformus 2008 will
not qualify for official Regional Event status, we do remain actively
engaged in an effort to encourage and support the Transformus board and
the many people who produce the event, and to assist them in moving
through this period as they reflect on their leadership and determine
the common goal for its future. Although there are transitions and
challenges afoot, we want to make it clear that we believe that there is
ample enthusiasm and dedication to help rally the community to resolve
these issues together and move beyond this conflict; we are confident
that you can and will create an event that your region can be proud of,
and that leadership will guide you through and hold the center, whatever
that turns out to be.

Indeed, the Burning Man Project has every intention of continuing to
offer its support to you, and it is our hope that Transformus will seek
and regain its official Regional Event status in the future. We do still
intend to send several members of our staff to support Transformus this
year; both Bex Workman and Wally Bomgaars aka:Odwally (DMV, Rangers)
will still be sent out to offer their assistance, expertise, and sweat
to help produce Transformus, just as had been previously planned; Ranger
Splinter is also still planning to conduct a Ranger Training at the event.

We also remain eager to help to connect all interested parties with any
others in the Burning Man Regional Network who might offer their insight
and assistance through their similar experiences, whoever they may be.
We are in frequent communication with the Burning Man regional contacts
in the area who are involved and concerned about this event. Regional
Contacts are individuals who have satisfied a set of established
leadership criteria to be a contact point in a particular area, and
we’re depending on them to help translate Burning Man's expectations to
the communities they represent and to let us know what other support we
might provide. Truly, although we know the ultimate solutions are up to
the community, we still want to be as supportive as possible if we can.

However, we know that the biggest component in Transformus (the event)
solving its current spate of issues is Transformus -- the community --
deciding together to figure out how to solve them. We’ve never seen it
as our place to tell another event what to do, even those within our
“Network” – we offer what we offer by way of affiliation or relationship
and shared principles, not by ownership or dictation. Our desire to help
is not about us illustrating what “we” think “you” should do – it’s

about us sharing what our experiences have been with you, introducing
you and connecting you to others with similar experiences, and offering
whatever we do know about building community and about producing events.

In this case that experience tells us that when things go off course
and personal actions are in doubt, it helps for everyone to reflect on
their shared values, sometimes in a public process, and this can help
you to see what you can do to get back to them, together.
And yes, we have the Ten Principles, and perhaps those are a place to
start a discussion, but we trust that there are many viewpoints and sets
of ideals among those who would consider themselves participants at
Transformus. Thus, we won’t deign to try to ascribe those values to
everyone who attends that event, but we do offer them as a place to
start, especially since we’ve found them useful so often ourselves.

Burning Man isn't trying to tell Transformus that we have the solution
for them, although we believe that we have tried to offer some input and
possible solutions for consideration. Ours is not to direct, dictate,
nor even to suggest what you should do in your local groups from all the
way over here in San Francisco, and no matter how many staff members we
send to visit, we only know what you and your community are telling us,
but ultimately the solutions are up to you. Either way, we’re certain
you’ll still come together and make Transformus great this year, and we
are eager to see what the future will bring.

In closing, I’d like to again emphasize that this decision was based on
careful investigation of a mass of shifting facts and information, and
was only designed to try to help the Transformus Board Of Directors and
all of you move towards building a strong community and producing an
event supporting the values of that community. We do not believe anyone
should pull out of their participation or stop working on or planning to
attend Transformus 2008 solely because of this decision on the behalf of
the Regional Network’s official event requirements. Indeed, the primary
purpose in building the Regional Network has been to facilitate a
connection amongst all of us, and we are in no way trying to negate the
importance of Transformus and its participants or its organizers as
members of the Burning Man community.

As such, we hope that it is understood by all that the Burning Man
Project will remain available to your community for questions, comments,
or support as we can offer it (remember this is a particularly busy time
for our production staff as we near the creation of Black Rock City),
and that we do believe that Transformus will find its way to the future
Self reflection and self improvement are values that can never been
underestimated in helping manifest change.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us
directly via: regionals@burningman.com

Sincerely,
Transformus No Longer A Regional Burn!!!!

Dear Mysterians,

It is with great sadness and discomfort that I announce Transformus is no longer an official Burning Man Regional Event. The Transformus Board of Directors received an e-mail from Andi Grace of Burning Man last night stating that there had been complaints made by the community. The decision to change Transformus' s status as an official burn was based on the BOD's lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency. An official statement will be released from Burning Man soon entailing all of the details in depth and their reasoning. It will also lay out the process necessary to regain or retain our status as a sanctioned Regional Burn.

The Transformus BOD would like to let everyone know that at no point in time did we mean for any of this to happen. We did our best to make sense of the madness that has occurred this year leading up to Transformus 2008. We apologize to the community for our break down in communication and our botched ticketing system. We are just a group of normal people, who tried to the best of our abilities to bring you a successful event. We are only human and the lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency was never, at any point in time, meaningfully sought out.

As many of you know, several members of the Transformus BOD have resigned. We thank them for their time, energy and devotion to this event. However, moving forward, there will be a lot of changes that will take place after Transformus 2008, and we are looking to this community to foster and implement those changes. The BOD opens the gates to the community as to where the future lies in running this event after Transformus 2008. For those of you who have wanted answers, decisions, and change, I ask you to step up to the challenge of making Transformus the way the community wants it to evolve. There are still just a few BOD members, including myself, that will help facilitate the means to making the situation at hand better after the event. Until that day and time, I respectfully and earnestly ask all of you to bring positivity and not negativity to our community.

Finally, for all of those in the community who wanted action and change, here is your opportunity to do something. The event is less than a month out ,and we can come out of the darkness and produce a great event that is fun, meaningful, transformative. ..not just a party in the woods. To all of you who are still coming and making it to Transformus 2008, we want to personally thank you for believing in the magical place known as Mysteria. Despite all the drama, anger, and confusion, we will rise to make Transformus 2008, the best one to date.

Positively Yours,

DTR

Transformus Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange

I am happy to announce that the Chill Spin Skillz Exchange will be returning to Transformus 08!

The Chill Spin Zone is a low-key, safe place for spinners and dancers of any skill level. It is both a learning and a teaching environment as well as a non-competitive play space. There will be music, workshops, classes and freeform fun throughout the weekend. Look for us in the Elyssium Fields.

The Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange is brought to you by Philosopher's Stone, Bubble Camp, Ripe and Juicy and many wonderful and giving teachers from all over Mysteria. It is a unique opportunity to teach, learn, connect and share in a cooperative and safe space from a variety of amazing teachers and performers. It is also a great opportunity to make friends and build community. And the first step to organizing it is a Call For Teachers!!!

Everyone has something to teach. Everyone has something to learn.

What do you have to share? Mysteria needs you!

Please let us know what you'd be interested in sharing. If there is a time or day that's better for you, let us know that too. Once we get everyone's feedback, we will make a schedule of workshops that will be posted online as well as in the Chill Spin Zone. TITS will also be announcing upcoming workshops throughout Mysteria.

Here is a list of the workshops that were offered last year. Let's use this as a framework to build upon. Feel free to share something new and different or sign on to teach one of these amazing skills:
- Staff
- Double Staff
- Fire Fans
- Hooping
- Tribal Dance
- Poi
- Fire Eating

Please indicate what skill level you are interested in teaching (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) and sign up even if someone else has already volunteered. More is better! If there is something unique about the workshop you want to teach, give us a little information about that also.

So what do you have to share?

Relocating to Greenville - seeking advice

Hi! I'm looking at the possibility of relocating to Greenville later this year and so sometime in the next month or two I'd like to come down and see what there is to see! But, since I've never been there, I need advice from cool kids in-the-know.

About me: I'm an 8-time Burner from Detroit, I have travelled and performed with a fire troupe since 2000, I've been in martial arts for 24 years, annnnd uhhh, I eat more chocolate in a day than most humans do in a month. Yep. So in Greenville I would be looking to meet people who build stuff, make stuff, dream stuff, perform stuff, etc. Please email me off-list at Teleshiva@gmail.com if you might be able to offer some guidance. Thanx!! ~ TimTv

Blitz: Kamp Krieg fundraiser July 3-6

Blitz – the benefit party weekend for Kamp Krieg

Blitz is a camping holiday weekend celebration being held on 10 acres of woodlands near Siler City, NC July 3-6. We're bringing the fire, debauchery, food, thumpa-thumpa, trampolines, boffer swords, and more. It's all burner tested, burner approved. Our Grill Master will be preparing tasty foods for your enjoyment, in both carnivorous and hippie varieties. Our party veterans will ensure you remain properly "hydrated" at all times. All proceeds contribute directly to your enjoyment of Kamp Krieg at numerous regional burns.

We know you're gonna have as much fun coming as we will putting it on, but don't forget the important things: Costumes, Art, Blinkies, Musical Instruments, Fire Toys, and anything else you need to get your creative spirit fired up.

This is a primitive camping LNT event . Unless you bring your mama, YOU are responsible for cleaning up after yourself, including removing your trash from the site. There is no car camping, but vehicles will be parked inside Gate.

All attendees must be 18+: a valid photo ID must be presented at Gate. NO EXCEPTIONS. Only ticket holders with a valid photo ID will be granted entrance to Blitz. You will receive directions to the site and specific details about this unforgettable event. Due to space limitations, Blitz is capped at 200 people, so tickets are very likely to sell out. Please do not forward directions or details to non-ticket holders.

Tickets are available in Greensboro, NC by calling 336.669.6964 or online for $20 from now until July 1st. www.BrownPaperTickets.com/event/37256 After July 1, all remaining tickets will be available first-come, first-served at $30 each.

Hi there - in the event that I am accepted to MUSC, I would move to Charleston after 8 years in San Fran. I like Charleston a lot, but finding the right mix of events and people would take the sting out of the re-adjustment. So how are the goings-on in SC?

So after talking with several local burners the topic of starting up Sunday Practice [again] has been raised! I love the idea and would like to see it happen! So please post here if you would like to be included. Currently it is looking like the first one will happen June 14 at around 8pm in Rosewood Park.

The park is in the Rosewood area, which is a nice safe neighborhood, however it may be shut down by the local po po, who knows, I figure burn first ask questions second. They have a great basket ball court that should allow for easy save burning, but we'll see.

2008 Art Theme @ Burning Man!

The American Dream!

And so from hour to hour we ripe and ripe,
And then from hour to hour we rot and rot;
And thereby hangs a tale.
--William Shakespeare, As You Like It

This year's art theme is about patriotism -- not that kind which freights the nation state with the collective weight of ego, but a patriotism that is based upon a love of country and culture. Leave ideology at home; forget the blue states and the red; let parties, factions and the so-called issues that divide us fall away. Flag burning or flag worship play no part in this year's theme. Ask yourself, instead, a more immediate question. What has America achieved that you admire or feel proud of? What has it done or failed to do that makes you feel dismayed? Put blame aside, in this election year, and dare to ask an even greater question: What can postmodern America, this stumbling, roused, half-conscious giant, yet give to the world?

You making haste on decay: not blameworthy; life is good, be it stubbornly
long or suddenly
A mortal splendor: meteors are not needed less than mountains:
shine, perishing republic.
-- Robinson Jeffers, Shine Perishing Republic

In 2008, the Burning Man will stand atop a high-rise tower. Instead of windows, this edifice will feature images of flags that represent the countries of the world. Ranging from Canada to Chad, from Brazil to Burundi, from Vatican City to the Republic of China, these 244 symbols will shine in the night, gleaming like cut gems upon the surface of a jewel box. The United States of America will be among them. Each country can be said to represent a dream no less radiant or precious than the rest. Each nation may be viewed as a container of identity; yet each one can be said to be a glimmering illusion, an arbitrary entity defined by boundaries on a map. All of us are immigrants to Black Rock City. What can we dream America to be?

RHPS in Mysteria

Fellow Mysterians,

Kim and I have secured from Fox Searchlight Pictures the licensing rights to show the Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight Friday night. This is a movie we love and think is one great example of how PARTICIPATION can make something phenomenally better than spectation. We invite everyone to come to the Hukka Lounge in Valhallah Friday night 11:30ish, wearing your RHPS costumes or other mysteria gear. We will be making a rain controlled outdoor projection theater. We encourage you to bring blanket's, pillows, chairs for your comfort. People with chairs are asked to seat behind those on the ground.

Unless someone can come up with a moop solution, we ask that audience member please do not throw anything. Specifically this refers to rice in the wedding scene and toast in the dinner scene, but anything (cards for joy, etc) that may moop should not be mooped. Don't let it hit the ground! If you feel strongly about including this part of audience participation, then message me your plan on how to demoop the area and a commitment to implementing the plan and we may go for it. Otherwise, bubbles at the wedding scene make sense too.

How can you help?
- the main way to help will be audience participation. Bring your best callouts. Bring your squirt guns. Bring your noise makers. Please no throwables unless we get a moop plan put in. I will make an official callout script and post it. I may even post an mp3 of me doing the callouts which you will need to sync to your copy of the movie. However, as with all Rocky showings, the official script is a GUIDE only and you should feel free to throw your own calls out. I will be saying things not in the script because they are just funnier when one person says them. I also encourage you to make suggestions on the script.
- another way to help would be actors. As of right now, we have no stage players. Only one of our stage player friends got a ticket :( If we get enough people together, we can throw a crew together. We will have try to have a rehearsal on Thursday, but if that is not feasible we will have it on Friday. If you don't have early entrance some other way, you can and should join the Hukka Lounge theme camp to get early entrance. If you are interested in being a stage player, message me what part(s) you want, your experience with the part, if you have a costume already, and anything else I may need to know.
- another thing we need are builders. We need people to build the theater. Mostly this involves holding wood in place while I screw it together with a power drill. I need at least two people for this. There is also some ropes, tarps (in case of rain), and lighting to string up. This will be done on Thursday and you will need early entrance. Join the Hukka Lounge if you do not already have early entrance.
- we need demolition people. These can be the same as the builders. Mostly this is carrying the theater to the burn pile on Saturday night. Four-Six people would be great.
- finally, getting the license was an expense ($350). If you think this is a really good idea and you want to support it financially, then you can paypal us a small amount (less than a theater ticket) to show some appreciation. jl-paypal at quickp.ath.cx . This contribution is not necessary for attendance, and god knows our food giveaways were much more expensive than this in years past, but it can help us in deciding on doing it again at future events (side note, we only do tea, coffee, and hukka in the lounge now :) . Some people may disagree with the need to license it, but our Civic Responsibility principal demands it and not licensing it and having a notice in the theme camp area of the transformus.com website could invite law enforcement into Mysteria at a crucial party time. Considering the raids they've done at churches showing 40 people or more a live broadcast of the Superbowl, I'd rather not risk it.

If you never checked the website before it all went away, do not worry, it may just take a little longer to get in touch with you.

So it's been way too long since we've had some M&G around here. Or maybe they have been going on and I'm just out of the loop. My idea is that we try to have two a month. To my knowledge there isn't a private residence we can have them at in the area right now, so here's my suggestion; we have two a month. One would be day time on a weekend. Have it be child friendly, like poi in the park or a pinic type thing. The other could happen at night and rotate to bars and such in different areas of the city. I think they should be say two weeks apart. Anybody got any ideas, suggestions on locations, and so on and so forth?

Wicker Man

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know about a new burn, and I am part of the planning team for it.

The burn is "Wicker Man" to be held Thursday - Monday, Memorial Day weekend, with a setup the weekend before the burn. We are trying to lay the grouondwork that will grow into a full-on burn, with an amazing site, roads for art cars, a $4000 art grant budget and plans for a stuendous effigy.

We will be using Four Quarters as our site, which has the rep as one of the most progressive non-profit camps on the east coast. They have given us their full support for Wicker Man. Four Quarters has a piped water system, hot showers, flush toilets and the always popular port-o-potties. There are buried power lines for their bio-fueled camp generator, a covered stage and 3 swimming holes. There is lots of camping under tall trees, and lots in the sun as well + 2 miles of gravelled roads. FQ is located 100 miles west of DC and Baltimore, just off I-68.

We want to develop a burn that is art focused and will support big art. And one that has a vision of the future of burns that is sustainable, ecologially responsible and leaves behind a small footprint. Thus, "Wicker Man" the old celebration of the Green Man and green energy. We already have lots of theme camps and art projects registered. We plan to have 3 "Theme Towns". Sound City, where we can run sound all night long, like at the Gaian Mind psytrance festival held at FQ, one of my favorites! There is Sin City, down by the river. And Center Circle, a place for nature and spirit, held inside the amazing standing stone circle. Yes, there is a circle of standing stones, yes they are huge and yes I've helded raise many of them.

And then there is the Man. Planned at 35 feet high, our Man stands on a round Temple to the Spirit of Fire, a big enough room that you can enter and place your own art and offerings to the burn. The roof of the temple is a deck upon which stands the Man, and people can stand too. His belly is the Upper Temple, with room for just one person at a time. Each of his arms will hold a flaming fire pot, and we hope, will move as he burns. This is a huge project and we are looking to get as many people involved in his construction as possible. Ground breaking for the Man is Friday May 9, and then the next 2 weekends until he burns.

Go to our website to check out the theme camps, art projects and the Man himself. Our site is wickermanburning org

This year marks 11 years I have been going to Four Quarters. Every time I walk on the land, I know I'm home.

See you at the Burn!

I want to wish a big welcome to the people moving into Greenville. I think they are Tim of Chicago and Brie of Detroit. Sorry if I got the cities or names a little wrong.

South Carolina's "Upstate" region seems to be a nice draw.

Hello darlings!

My name is Bri (though I respond to just about anything that sounds
pretty) and I'm moving to the Greenville area from the Detroit/Chicago
scene come June.
Once upon a time five years ago, I lived just outside of Asheville but
I've since lost touch with just about anybody I once knew there. I'm
looking for new friends, new (goodhearted) people, and new trouble to
get myself into.
This year was supposed to be my first Burning Man, but (after I bought
tickets! d'oh!) I found out that I'm pregnant and due within two weeks
of the festival. Therefore my priorities changed: childbirth in
September of 2008. Burning Man in September of 2009. Fair trade!

PLEASEpleasePLEASE email me, say hi, or smile politely in my direction!

cheers!
Bri

Transformus Invites

[You should have just received this if you are subscribed to the announce-only list (http://www.transformus.com/announce). If you think you are subscribed but you didn't receive the new (February) Mountain Holler, then either you aren't subscribed, or it probably went to your junk mail folder. In either case, please make sure you are receiving announcements! Official announcements are not posted here, but in the interest of making sure as many people get invite news as possible, here it is again.]

Invites!
We are using a new system for invites to address the likelihood that more people will want to attend the event than we are able to accommodate.

We are able to invite 1,500 people to the event this year. Each invite will cost $55. Children age 5 and under enter free with legal guardian.
One person may request one or two invites using a form that will be available on the web site (http://www.transformus.com) starting at 12:00 noon (Eastern time) on Friday, February 29. You will have until the end of the day on Sunday, March 9, to complete the form, so there is no need to all rush at noon on Friday. (There is no advantage in completing your form before others, as long as you meet the March 9 deadline.)
At that time, the first 1,350 invites will be determined from all the requests that have been submitted.
We will inform you as soon as we have completed that process, no later than March 16, and if we were able to invite you, you will have until noon on April 9 to pay via PayPal.
We are going to repeat the process to distribute the remaining invites.
Just like the first two years, we are going to issue electronic instead of paper tickets. You will receive a souvenir paper ticket when you arrive, but in order to gain entry each person must present his or her own personal secret code that we will issue.
On or before February 28, more detailed instructions will be sent via e-mail to the announcements list and posted on the web site at http://www.transformus.com.
What you should do now:

Please go to http://www.transformus.com, create an account (if you don't already have one) and make sure you can log in.
Contact web@transformus.com if you have any technical issues.
Stay tuned for detailed instructions via e-mail announcements and on the web site.

Hey all, this is your ranger wrangler, F'jord, getting everyone warmed up for Florida Preheat ( http://www.floridapreheat.com/ ). The first tier of tickets are on sale for $35 and will be at that level until the 26th of THIS MONTH, so get 'em before they're hot.

And this event will not be able to happen without the volunteers, so I'm putting out a pitch for people to sign up. In addition to the great feeling of helping the community, volunteering as a greeter and camp placer are a great ways to meet new people, and rangers, medical, and fire all keep us safe and are well loved for it. And if that's not enough, the Hookah Lounge will be hosting a volunteer dinner Saturday night with the usual 5-star vegan, vegetarian, and meat entrees and sides. If you are on shift at the time, arrangements will be made so you can come eat.

The volunteer shifts have been split up into 4 hour segments: midnight-4am, 4am-8am, 8am-noon, noon-4pm, 4pm-8pm, 8pm-midnight
The shifts start noon Friday 4/18 through noon Monday 4/21. The positions are Greeter Lead, Greeter, Camp Placer Lead, Camp Placer, Ranger Lead, Ranger trained, Ranger untrained, Medical Lead, Medical, Fire Lead, and Fire.

We have needs in all positions and especially we need rangers and fire safety in all shifts. For rangers, we are looking for people who have had ranger training at any official burning man event. This can be burning man or official regionals, such as Transformus or Flipside.

What if you don't have ranger training? Then sign up anyway, but in the 3rd-6th spots. If there is enough interest and need, we will be organizing ranger training on Friday afternoon.

So where do you sign up? Read the volunteering section of the website ( http://www.floridapreheat.com/camps.htm ) or email "volunteer at floridapreheat.com" with the position and shift(s) you want.

Worried you aren't good enough, haven't been to enough events, don't have a faboo pair of bunny ears, etc, etc? Don't worry! If you're serious about volunteering, you'll do great; virgins can volunteer in all positions (but volunteer rangers will need to attend the ranger training); and we love you for you, not some fuchsia glitter bunny ears.

Got any more questions? Send them to me in message me here on tribe
Love and hugs,
F'jord

Jury Dootie 2008 Transformus Creativity Grants

Greetings Mysterians

Mysteria is a collective of creative beings who celebrate radical self-expression. To lend a hand in that pursuit, Transformus is getting ready to disperse the 2008 Creativity Grants. We are calling out to the community for thirteen volunteers to serve on the jury for this grant cycle. We're looking for a number of diverse folk who are willing to:

Review and familiarize themselves with the blinded proposals for 2008 Creativity Grants
Be open to communications with the Creativity Grant Steering Committee concerning the jurying format for this cycle
Commit to a two to three hour conference call to deliberate dispersal of 2008 Creativity Grant funds
Come to a fair and effective decision on how the funds will be allocated
Pat themselves and each other on the back for a job well done

We are looking for those who have been a part of previous art grant processes as a voice of experience. We are also looking for inexperienced new voices from the community to offer fresh perspectives and unique insights into the process. We are also looking for people outside of the Burn community to provide unbiased decisions and perspectives. All in all, we need a fair representation of the Mysterian community to lend a hand in assisting our fellow visionaries in seeing their works to fruition. Anyone who is applying for a grant, has a working knowledge of any of the grant applications, and/or is serving on the grant steering committee is ineligible to serve on the jury.

We have a deadline of December 15th for the final decision on grant allocations. The conference call would be during the second week of December. Please contact Sauce or Phill at art@transformus.com with any questions, comments, suggestions or random thoughts.

Help us help each other.

Love to all. Your Art Team co-leads, Phill and Sauce

Transformus 2008 Art Grant Steering Committee participants

We're calling out for members of the community to assist in shaping the Transformus 2008 Creativity Grant process, specifically with regards to how the grant applications and jury are handled. We've received a number of exciting grant proposals and expect more as the week progresses. Remember that the deadline for applications is this Saturday, December 1 at midnight.

We are forming a steering committee to discuss and determine the parameters for the jurying process before the applications go to jury. Duties include reviewing the application pool of blinded proposals prior to a conference call to decide the most effective and fair way to assess the proposals and the means by which the jury will determine how the funds are dispersed. We're looking for folk with experience serving on the juries for the past two years as well as those with no prior experience. A good mix of seasoned veterans and fresh voices would be optimal.

Those serving on the steering committee would not be eligible to serve on the jury. And, as always, those serving on the steering committee and this year's jury are not eligible for grants themselves. This is a time sensitive issue, so let us know as soon as possible if you'd be able to assist us.

The time for our steering committee conference call(s) will be set when we have enough members to participate on the committee. We are looking at some time in the first week of December to get all our ducks in a row.

Feel free to contact us if you have any thoughts, comments, questions, or suggestions.

Love you all,
Transformus Art Team co-leads Phill and Sauce

TOWN HALL MEETING/CPR TRAINING NOVEMBER 17-18

There will be a "massing of Mysterians" at Deerfields the Saturday and Sunday before Thanksgiving, November 17th and 18th, for a Town Hall Meeting. This will be a great opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas about successes of last year and suggestions for Transformus 08 with the re-structured Board of Directors.

Meet Team Leads and learn more about where your talents might best be served. TLs, it's never too early to start recruiting volunteers...to reconnect with fellow Transformaniacs. If you've never been and want to learn more about Transformus, come on out to Deerfields.

If you want to come in on Friday evening to camp, that is fine. There will be a small charge of $10 to cover the cost of port-o-lets. All participants need to be off property by 2 PM on Sunday.

We will meet on the Pavillion Stage at 1 PM on Saturday for the Town Hall Meeting. We are planning to put tarps up as a wind break and will have some heat source available. If anyone has a commercial "jet engine" heater like they use on construction sites or at Minnesota Viking football games, please let me know ASAP at wordplay@transformus.com so we can make arrangements for fuel.

We are also planning a Red Cross CPR Training and Certification at Deerfields this same weekend. If you are interested in taking this course, we are willing to pay for it, but there is an expectation that you will serve as a Mysteria Ranger or with the Emergency Response Team in July 2008. Space for this training is limited to 13 participants, so if you are interested in getting certified, let me know ASAP at the same email address.

We'll have a potluck supper on Saturday evening...please label anything you would like to share as "meat," "poultry," "fish," or "vegetarian." Remember to stay hydrated, and be prepared for winter camping conditions.

Oh, and we'll have a fire on Friday and Saturday nights, so feel free to bring your poi or other blinky toys, music, and other fun entertainment!!!!

This is a social gathering as opposed to a Work/Play Weekend, although I'm sure a spontaneous micro-MOOP patrol might just happen...as always, the LNT Principle is in effect!

Looking forward to seeing you all on the Mountain in a few weeks to share thoughts, plans, and good times!

Alchemy Town Hall Meeting

Alchemy will be having its first annual Town Hall Meeting on Sunday,
December 9, 2007 at 3pm. The kind folks at the Spring 4th Center have
graciously allowed us to host the meeting there. The address is 728
Spring Street (the red door), Atlanta Georgia 30308.

The purpose of the town hall meeting will be to:

1. Present the 2007 event report to the community including financial
details and reports by various team leads
2. Open facilitated discussions of what did and did not succeed at
this year's event
3. Election of the Board of Directors for 2008

Alchemy will be electing its 2008 Board of Directors at the meeting.
If you wish to run for the board, or wish to vote for whomever serves
in this capacity, then you must attend this meeting. There will be no
proxy voting, absentee ballots, or absentee candidates.

Alchemy's new Board of Directors structure will include five voting
members elected from the community at large, and one non-voting
advisory member appointed by the Burning Man organization.

Board members serve in a voluntary capacity and will meet at least
monthly throughout the year and are responsible for:
1. approval of Alchemy expenditures, event dates, and locations
2. allocation of funds for art grants and approval of art applications
3. appointment of team leads
4. reporting, sales and income taxes, and general business requirements

Your participation is essential for Alchemy to continue to be a
fantastic event. We look forward to seeing you there!

If you would like to buy more than one workshop, there are discounts available, but only ahead of time from my website. Classes are full price at the door day of.

Don't overlook River's classes if you're coming in for the bellydancing. I heard him perform at Triboriginal, and he is absolutely world class caliber. The man plays with Omar Faruk Tekbilek, and we are absolutely lucky to have him so close by. River's bio is included below. Check out his awesomeness.

Ashley Bennett continues her tribal fusion solo instruction in Out of the Box II. Ashley is now a full-fledged member of Delirium and Columbia Alternacirque, so she's been working on a lot of neat new stuff.

After attending workshops and performances and hearing people by the tons asking for a hair and makeup workshop, I am finally hearing your pleas. Bring your fake hair and your makeup box, and we'll go through the tried and true Delirium Tribal "warpaint" process together, just in time for our hafla of doom that evening.

We'll be having our hafla of doom starting at 8 PM at Ashley's and my residence. We expect live music, as well as performances by Columbia Alternacirque and Delirium Tribal. Responsible fire performers welcome in the front yard. It's informal, so if you'd like to perform something, bring it along. Our parties get bigger and better each time, and the last one was a blast, so I have no idea what's going to happen this time. Please give me a PM for the address. It's potluck, BYOB, and children are welcome so please drink quietly and responsibly.

**************************************************************************
Bio for River Guerguerian:
River (Paul) Guerguerian was born in 1967 (“the summer of love”) in Montreal, Canada to Armenian/Egyptian/Syrian parents. He began playing music at the age of 8, and at 11, moved to the New York City area, studied with world-renowned masters, and began playing professionally soon after. As a multipercussionist, composer, and educator, he is devoted to the subtle and transformative power of the arts.

In 1989, he received his Bachelor of Music from the Manhattan School of Music Conservatory and graduated with the school’s award for Most Outstanding Percussionist. While living in NYC, he performed and/or recorded with such groups as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, New Music Consort, English Chamber Orchestra, NewBand/Harry Partch Ensemble, Tibetan Singing Bowl Ensemble, Talujon Percussion Ensemble (co-founder), Chuck Berry, Sophie B. Hawkins, Ziggy Marley/Gipsy Kings, and spent five years developing sounds with Grammy and Oscar winning composer Tan Dun, with whom he won a Bessie Award for “Jo Ha Kyu."

He has been living in Asheville, North Carolina, a center for the arts in the southern Appalachian Mountains, since 1999. He is currently performing with the ensemble of Omar Faruk Tekbilek, world famous ney flute master. River is also a well-known regional artist, performing and recording with world music groups, dance troupes, jazz ensembles, pop and rock groups, experimental ensembles, and singer/songwriters. He can be found playing frame drums, drumset, congas, Middle Eastern and African percussion, tabla, gongs, singing bowls, and various found objects.

Guerguerian has performed at International Music Festivals in Berlin, New York, Moscow, Rome, San Francisco, Edinburgh, Hong Kong, Barcelona, Athens, Istanbul, and has recorded on over 90 albums and film soundtracks, including the John Cage documentary film, “I Have Nothing to Say and I Am Saying It”. His compositions have been commissioned and performed by chamber ensembles, universities, modern dance companies, and new music festivals throughout the country.

In 1994, River sold all possessions, left civilization, and lived in the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary in the Himalayas where he delivered his daughter, Amba. For five years, he did not play professionally and gathered new information from being immersed in Nature.

His music has evolved using knowledge and indigenous instruments gathered from research and from travels around the planet. He conducts rhythm and sound exploration workshops throughout the country. Guerguerian enjoys sharing the deep, creative, and rhythmic space from which sound originates.

To all who are planning to attend FreeFall this weekend...

WE HAVE A PROBLEM. WE REPEAT, WE HAVE A PROBLEM.

The water pump to the festival site is down. We are working hard to repair this. Still, anyone attending should plan to bring water for themselves for the weekend, as the likelihood is that this situation won't be fixed by then.

Also, anyone who has not received their invitations in email, please let us know this at freefallticketcritter@yahoo.com, or email me at merritt137@yahoo.com. We seem to be having some trouble with invitations being rejected as Spam.

We will try to email everyone coming with these updates, but are posting this here in the hope of getting the word out.

We are still looking forward to a great time, good folks are arriving and setting up already, can't wait to see y'all here at Serendipity!!

4800 bicycles rode through the town of Fort Collins, Co, on Saturday Sept. 22.
It smashed Tiawan's previously recorded attempt of 1910 riders. It was an awesome event, much fun for all.
You can see some of the video here...
www.IdeaFilmFactory.com
... more to come.

With some coordination how many bikes do you think we could get together on the playa next year?! I bet we could smash this record!!!
