"ROSE" my new short novel in progress

Here is the synopsis:

"Rose is a fifteen year old girl in suburban America in 1999, trying to cope with the fact that she can't relate to anyone else in the world.
On her first day of high school, however, she sees a boy that apparently no one else can see. So she is faced with a question: Is the boy real or imaginary?
Over time, he tells Rose things about his past and her future that may change her life forever.
And so begins Rose's journey of mystery, suspense, fantasy, love, and sacrifice. A Moment in Time begins..."

It is mainly fiction, but obviously has some sci-fi/fantasy elements. I started writing "Rose" earlier this year in creative writing class, and just took off with it from there. The book will have three parts when all is said and done. Part 1 is done (50 pages), and Part 2 is about there as well (its past the 70 page mark already). Everyone who has read it so far (about five or six friends and family members) loves it, which is a first for me. Writing from a girl's perspective isn't nearly as hard as everyone seems to think. Maybe it's because I don't currently have a girlfriend, but finding the inspiration to write romance scenes has been tough.

As for posting Part 1, I am kind of wary, since whatever you post on here is automatically owned by Tribe (right?). But if you would like to read it, I can always email it to you.

Also, I'm wondering where some good sci-fi/fantasy short novel publishers can be found. I searched on google and got a storm of crap.

Cool, and good luck with the project!

    Piers Anthony's guide at
    www.hipiers.com/publishing.html

focuses mainly book publishers, and he updates it regularly.

You can also check out the SFWA Qualifying Novel Venues, which won't give you all the publishers, only the ones SFWA accepts from people wanting to join. There are no hyperlinks on this list, only the publisher names -- so you can search on the publisher names to get to their websites:

    www.sfwa.org/org/qualify.htm#Q4

(SFWA considers 40,000 words to be the minimum length for a novel.)

Another reason to be wary of posting stories, poetry, etc., online is that material posted in a public forum is considered to be published. That means that if you post a story online, it is then technically unqualified for submission to markets looking for previously unpublished work only. See, for example, Nancy Breen's blog entry, "Published is Published!" at

    www.writersdigest.com/poetica...hed.aspx

Breen is a Writer's Digest editor.
