RR Decompression

Hey Ho All! CampDaddy here wanting to send out a great big Thank You for participating at RR09!

Thru Armageddon, a bad case of Mutation and upward to Elevation, Recycled Rainbow is what we, as a community, make it. This year was the best RR to date thanks to all of you!

While RR09 is over, the one and only Official Recycled Rainbow Elevation Decompression is on the schedule! RR Decomp includes not only persons who attended RR09 but anyone who wanted to but could not. Anyone who attended and has friends that want to be there to see a mini version are welcome too.

Decompression is scheduled for October 10 at Crystal Springs Campground, 31478 Bagley Road , North Ridgeville , OH 44039 . Entry fee is $10 per person to cover the portajohn rental. There is no re-entry fee. Overnight camping is permitted and encouraged.

BE AWARE!! The section RR will be using is completely primitive. No running water, no electricity. The verge is well trimmed. There is a stand of trees for camping in and setting up rain shelters. There will be one portable restroom present. Bring warm clothes. Bring rain shelters. Bring waterproof boots. Bring ear plugs. Don't drive faster than 5 mph when entering the campground (SERIOUSLY!) No big bonfires are permitted per North Ridgeville fire department. We can have lots of small campfires.

Look at any of the following sites for updates. www.recycledrainbow.org, Tribe, Facebook, Myspace, Livejournal, Twitter and www.koiburners.com .

Even tho RR09 is ended, RR10 is now less than a year away! Announcements for the theme and dates will up coming sometime after the first of the year. As will announcements concerning Primer for sometime in May.

Rumor mill advocates seem to think a shake up about the theme of RR10 will occur. Keep an eye out for details.

Now Hear This! Now Hear This!
Set Recycled Rainbow Preparation Level Bravo point Six!
Repeat!
Set Recycled Rainbow Preparation Level Bravo point Six!
That Is All!

Just a reminder that there are absolutely no early arrivals to Recycled Rainbow. We need time to set up infrastructure. We already have a core staff of volunteers to set up.

Gates open at 9 AM on Thursday, 9/24/2009. We’ll see you then!

Medical skills very much needed

SHOUT OUT to all medical personnel within the reach of my virtual voice!

We're looking for help with the ESD (Emergency Services Department) @ this year's Recycled Rainbow. Just looking for people to take shifts playing the role of medic, which may involve putting on band-aids, treating burn wounds, fixing scrapes or bruises. Anything major would require us to call an ambulance or one of us would drive the wounded person to the hospital. We need two more medics to fulfill our needs (you don't have to be an MD or a paramedic or an RN, but if you got SOME medical credentials, give us a holler.)

Dates for this event are: Sept 24th-27th (Thursday-Sunday)

Location: East Rochester, OH (near Minerva, Canton, Akron ... nearly a 2 hour drive from Cleveland.)

Even if you can't do this, perhaps you know someone who would be able to? We only have 2 medics, and our goal was to have 6.

It's been suggested that I post here, so here I am!

Please contact me if interested or if you know someone who is, email me at this address everyman@colorforms.net

Hey, all you cool, crazy, Recycled Rainbow Cats and Kittens,

sir william, your Earth Guardian ring-leader and impresario here, and I have a special message.

I know you like to eat and drink. I also know that you love our little gifting community, where one can roam about Recycled Rainbow and receive gifts of food and beverage of all variety from your fellow participants out of the goodness of their hearts, just as you enjoy gifting things of all sorts to them. This such a great arrangement, no? Only one thing you gotta remember: vessels and utensils. Oh, the utter horror of stumbling up to JavaMama'a hut, smelling that wonderful coffee in the air, only to realize that you have no cup. Or to be offered a wonderful helping of Susan's delectable soup....but you have no bowl. And pouring it into your hands could prove painful. It is your responsibility to bring a cup, a bowl, a spoon or whatever you think you might need to receive these gifts in proper fashion. It's the burner way. It's the Earth-friendly way. It's even the cowboy way, little pardners.

So write it on your list of things to bring, write it on your hands, write it in the sky, I don't care.

Just remember, friends.

Urgent message from Javamama (Volunteer Coordinator):

Okay, it's that time again. Recycled Rainbow Elevation is only 6 weeks away. As Volunteer Bitch, I mean Witch, I'm here to get on your case. You know you want to volunteer!

What could be better than to weild the power of a Greeter (paddles and cat o' nine tails anyone?).

Find out what it's like to be the troll under the bridge, I mean to be a Gate Keeper.

Are you a caring, gentle, nurting person who has first aid knowledge or more? You could volunteer with the Emergency Services Department. Being caring, gentle and nurturing are not prerequisites but they are nice if you're patching up somebody's boo boos.

Ever wanted to be a law enforcement officer? Well, you could be a Ranger. Even if you didn't want to in law enforcement you could be a Ranger. Rangers are not the police but they do help to "keep things running smoothly and lightly", to quote Camp Daddy our Ranger Team Lead.

Earth Guardians are looking for a few good burners. The only requirement is a desire to ensure that no trace is left when we leave. Help educate everyone to the "Leave No Trace" mantra. Be aware and pick up moop wherever you see it.

There are many other ways that you can help to create Recycled Rainbow Elevation. Let me know if you would like to roll up your sleeves and participate. Everybody knows that volunteers have more fun!

need volunteers for Recycled Rainbow 2009, here's how you can help!

Don't already have a project for Recycled Rainbow? Then you are EXACTLY who we need to talk to!

This is a message from Javamama, RR's Volunteer Coordinator:

Why Should I Volunteer?

Everyone who participates at Recycled Rainbow is a volunteer. The organizers are volunteers. All team leads are volunteers. All musicians and artists are volunteers. We don’t want anyone to feel left out, so we want you to volunteer too. If you aren’t already committed to one of our illustrious teams, think about it. JOIN THE FUN OF HELPING TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN THIS INCREDIBLE TEMPORARY COMMUNITY. IT WILL BE AN EXPERIENCE YOU WON’T FORGET! Below is a list of the various departments needing help. I am Javamama, your volunteer coordinator. You can get more information from me at volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

Public Relations:

PR people. Promoters- people to get the word out. The two most important parts in paying for the land and insurance are gatekeepers (who collect the money/tickets) and PR (who get the people to the gate). Contact volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

Gate Keepers/Greeters:

The Gate is one of the most visible departments for the event. As the first person they see upon arriving and before entering the gate, your smiling face and the information you give will welcome each participant whether it’s their first time or family returning “home”. The Gate is intended as a well-run, easy to do, fun job! Contact greeters(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org if you want to join the fun!

Earth Guardians:

LNT – Leave NO Trace!!! These amazing people love to get all trashy!!! Organic, inorganic, orgasmic, or not that much fun at all, JUST DON’T LEAVE IT!!! It takes a lot of people hours – before, throughout, and after the event to make sure that nothing gets left behind. Leading this year’s LNT effort is Sir William! Please contact us at volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

Rangers:

handle conflict resolution and work in cooperation with the Emegency Service Department. Rangers are not security. They handle conflict by attempting to communicate and reach compromises so police don’t have to be called. TheTeam Lead communicates with other teams to ensure proper and fast response in the event of emergencies. Ranger Team Lead is Larry (Camp Daddy). Please contact us at volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

Emergency Services Department:

ESD’s are responsible for handling all on site medical and fire emergencies. They are currently looking for CPR certified, EMS, Paramedics, First Responders, or anyone working in the medical field. This years ESD Leader is Dudas and he has some big needs!!! Please contact us at volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

DBS:

The DBS is in charge of building the event. All public labor is run through DBS. DBS works with all teams, theme camps, art instillations, requiring advice or assistance with building projects on site. DBS - The event’s Hot Ass Construction Crew!!! (Catcall Y’all!!!) DBS Team Lead is Habanero Bunny . Please contact us at volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

Theme Camp Coordination:

This community is built on a little more than Rock N’ Roll. TCC deals with all things theme camp related. Placement, emergency plans, fire, LNT, etc. TCC will communicate with other teams to ensure all theme camp needs are met. TCC deals with registered and unregistered theme camps. Team Lead for TCC is Dirtgoddess. Please contact us at volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

Restroom Ambiance:

This most avant-garde idea in volunteerism was born in 2005 at Burning Man by Recycled Rainbow Camp. The hallmark of every great civilization is the manner in which they handle their biological waste! In an attempt to provide a respectful, pleasant and enjoyable experience in our temporary community, we are seeking one or two people to provide atmosphere and services for the restrooms. Restroom attendants are given the opportunity to create a theme camp in the restrooms themselves, providing lighting, music, incense and whatever else you would like to provide to promote a pleasant environment demanding respect for the facilities. Providing reminders that “if it didn’t come out of your body, don’t put it in the potty” and “no moop in the poop” are some examples, but it can go much further! Please contact us at volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

There are no schedules or rules, so you’ll have to make things happen yourself and respect your neighbor.

Trucking to Scorched Nuts 09 - Space Available

We are going to rent a truck to haul the Vapour Lounge, Steam Dome, and all the other goodies out to Scorched Nuts this year. (checkout the homebrew lineup at www.vapourhut.com) It is a big truck and we will have quite a bit of extra space. If you have something that you wish you could get out to Scorched Nuts but you don't have the room or ability to haul it let me know and maybe we can work something out. The plan is to load the truck Wednesday night in Cincinnati, head out Thursday morning, and return Sunday afternoon.

RR Primer: The FS Interview

RR PRIMER
May 23, 24 & 25 2009
Crystal Springs Campground
31478 Bagley Rd
North Ridgeville, OH 44039
(440) 748-3200
$10

This is an interview with Twinkles who we caught up with after hearing about the RR meeting held this past weekend. A lot of details about the upcoming Recycled Rainbow event were released on Saturday, but try as we might to get information about RR 2009, Twinkles would only talk to us about something called Primer. After fifteen minutes we got sick of trying to pry RR information out of him and decided to ask questions about this Primer thing. Both Twinkles and our interviewer were very sleepy when this interview was recorded, at 5am on Monday morning.

What is Recycled Rainbow Primer and how does it differ from Recycled Rainbow?
First off, let me say DRIVE FIVE MILES AN HOUR OR SLOWER IN THE CAMPGROUND!

Also, I'd like to say that I dislike the term "differ"- I also dislike the term "Recycled Rainbow Primer" it should be called simply "Primer"- or better yet "PRIMER". But I suppose you need to know for what you are being "primed". You might be being primed for RR. Or not.

That's pronounced "Arr Arr", by the way.

Indeed.
Primer is a two or three day free-for-all in North Ridgeville, OH put on by the Recycled Rainbow people as an excuse to build things. They like building things, the Recycled Rainbow people- it has been suggested by more than one person- or actually I think it was one person- that Recycled Rainbow is an event where there are no spectators and everyone is building something- so you get a ton of interesting bars, sculptures, camps and unusual spaces that are mostly empty because the people who would inhabit these structures are all building their own structures. And then there's Saturday night and to some extent, Friday night where those who have finished their "projects" begin to get out and hang out with other people's stuff- but Primer is the pre-event-

Primer was originally put together as a promotional tool?
Sort of. It was both a way to show people what we're doing and also to prototype projects.

People have a low tolerance for discomfort and while Primer isn't 100% comfortable- like sitting on a cushion in a house watching people perform- but you're not driving two hours and you have amenities nearby. And it's also 15 minutes away.

Did I mention it's only 15 minutes from Cleveland?

There is a port-a-potty (which is our own special monument) and usually more than one fire.

And there's no electricity?
Correct. Recycled Rainbow has plenty of electricity and water. It has a restroom and sometimes showers. Primer has none of these things- except a port-a-potty and a pavilion that's infested with wasps and yellow jackets.

But it's fun anyway?
Fun is an interesting idea.

Fun is what you make it. Everyman usually brings out the battery array and lights and I'll bring out my PA and projector (mostly because I'm stupid enough to subject my projector to rain) and we'll set up a DJ station and late at night play video mash-ups of pornography and horror films. There's also a very loud train that passes by every 15 minutes or so.

Sounds terrible!
It is. But it's one of the most fun events any of us have been to because it's a little uncomfortable. The train is a good example of this. Because of the train we can play music or whatnot as loud as we want at any hour of the night. Last year I remember waking up at 4am because I had to pee- and was greeted with the sounds of amplified fornication. I looked around and found people roasting marshmallows in a thunderstorm.

This is the second year for Primer?
Yes. Last year Primer was only one night. We wanted one day to prototype our structures and I wanted to burn mine because there was a specific thing I wanted to have happen when [the project] burned and didn't know if it would work.

And did it?
Yes. But I discovered a different way of doing it there. I was originally going to use wax and ended up using hot glue.

Ok...
But yes, Primer this year is going to be for three days- almost as long as Recycled Rainbow. It will be on Memorial Day Weekend (which is when the house events used to regularly occur) which means we'll really have to prepare for the rain.

Is it going to rain?
That's a terribly stupid question. Who knows? Probably.

I'm not a fan of rain, but we're just starting to figure out creative ways of dealing with [rain]. I think the way this works with us is at first we experience a discomfort or a problem and then the next year you start seeing people building stuff or planning things to deal with that discomfort. They usually end up using the discomfort or addressing it in creative ways. In 2007, for example, we were gifting dry socks to people.

What were you gifting in 2008?
Medical attention and meatheads.

Medical attention?
Yeah. We really look forward to all the medical attention. Wait. No, we DON'T look forward to medical attention. We like attention.

Meatheads?
Did I say we like attention? We don't like attention. Yes, meatheads- we don't care for meatheads either.

That's pronounced "meeeth-eeeds", by the way.

But you just pronounced it "meat-heads"
No I didn't.

Do people get hurt often at Primer or RR?
You can't have fun in a vaccuum. Something has to happen to have fun- or at least there has to be the possibility of something happening. If you make things as safe as you possibly can, we tend to think you're going to reduce the possibility for fun.

So the possibility for danger is proportional to the possibility for fun?
Well... I don't know much about math.

If the possibility exists for a little danger- like with fire spinners or a large fire- or a naked guy running around with a big pair of scissors- the possibility for fun increases. That's the theory anyway. It's not ours.

But no, people don't get hurt often.

One thing that's important to remember at Primer tho-

FIVE MILES PER HOUR!

RR doesn't have much in the way of injury. Most of it's just minor burns and people busting their heads open because they're falling from great heights. I think that's why we've chosen the theme "Elevation" this year- to get the people higher in the air so they have a longer distance to fall.

That doesn't sound safe.
It doesn't? Hm.

So, tell me a little about what to expect this year at Primer.
That's another pretty stupid question. I can't. I don't know what to expect.

We've just begun putting our plans together. It's always going to be different. I can say that you'll see people building things and you'll have a good time.

Primer is a little more laid back than RR is- meaning you can come and go as you please, you can buy beer at the local store in Elyria and come by after you've paid your cover- you can visit just during the day- return- you know.

I've heard you lock people in the event during RR
Well, I don't know about "lock in". We discourage people from leaving to go get things they forgot and we want you to be a part of the event- for the duration of the event. It's just another obstacle to make things more interesting. We're in to making things interesting. We're kind of like gluttons for punishment. While others like to party and get wasted... wait. We like to get wasted too....

I think it has something to do with camping and power tools...

Anyway, a big difference between RR and Primer is... there are fewer barriers to deal with at Primer. That makes it less fun to me, personally, but most people aren't used to that idea of this important relationship between fun and discomfort.

So you have more fun the more uncomfortable you are?
For me, and for alot of us, it's always more fun when it's harder to get to the fun.

How much is admission to Primer?
Primer cost $10 last year- it all goes to port-a-potties. The port-a-potty is the most important thing- without them you can't have the event. With them, you can have the event anywhere.

Where is it?
We usually put the porta-potty right under a big Jesus-Cross. It has a superman sticker on it and if you go into the porta-potty you can turn into Jesus- or you can poop.

Where is the event??
Crystal Springs campground in North Ridgeville, OH.

It's only about 15 minutes from Cleveland across I-80 from the Autorama. Its easy to get there and easy to get back. If you don't want to camp, you don't have to. You can come, have fun, go home and sleep in your own bed, then come back the next day and do it again. And this year you can do that for three days!

We don't know why anyone in their right mind wouldn't come. You get music, performance, sake, crazy people, trains, porn and fire. If you or someone brings those things, of course. We're not spoon-feeding it to you- we don't spoon feed anyone anything. Fuck that shit. You still have to come to the event. We won't bring the event to you. If you don't want to come, DON'T COME. We're always telling people not to come to our events.

And you have to bring your own stuff. And you might have to endure rain or heat or a flying ball of fire whizzing past your head-

The only thing we ask is that you truck your trash out with you. Leave No Trace.

Oh, and FIVE MILES PER HOUR.

Any final words?
Flyers will be out soon.

Oh, and success is overrated and failure is underrated.

And DRIVE FIVE MILES AN HOUR ON THE CAMPGROUND!

RR PRIMER
May 23, 24 & 25 2009

Hi everybody -

Greg Young (Smoke Blower) here. We are traveling the country in our 40' bus, trying to attend as many regional events as possible. Our goal is to connect burners and to document those who are living the burner life year round.

We just bought our Scorched Nuts tickets and are really excited to be coming there!

We would like to interview a few participants while we are there, so please let us know if you are interested in telling us about how Burning Man has affected your life - particularly if you have never been there! We are also interested in your thoughts about this year's art theme, Evolution.

We will be driving our big 40' blue bus, and setting up a 15' tall by 30' wide video screen to show what we have already, including some portions of what we shoot there at Scorched Nuts. We also will set up our 16' tall psychedelic cactus and a few other things. We'd like to talk to the city planner about placement.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

A little on our background:
Barbara & I have been burning since 2003. I was co-mayor of Shangri-La Village at Burning Man in '04 & '05, and co-regional contact for San Diego from '05 through the end of last year. We are now regionals at large, trying to meet as many burners as we can and make connections!

love,
sb

Guardians, and give a few hours of your time to making our
infrastructure run smoothly.

Gate needs YOU!
With the change in venue has come changes in gate. This year's gate
will be even more interactive than ever before! Be sure to be there
for all the fun and antics by joining the gate team today! You'll be
the first to see everyone as they enter into our fair 'city'. Gate is
looking for at least three people to fill each shift, so get a group
together to sign-up and man the gates! It's a favorite way for many
to participate.
The gate will be open:
Thursday, June 11th from 2pm to 10pm
Friday, June 12th from 10am to 10pm
Saturday, June 13th from 10am to 10pm.
Send an e-mail to gate@scorchednuts.org to help fill a shift.

Medic needs more volunteers!
Medic team is a needed and valued volunteer team at our event. To
volunteer all you need is to know basic First Aid and CPR, however, if
you're a First Responder, EMT, Fireperson, Nurse, Doctor, and/or
certified in First Aid/CPR and good in a medical crisis then we're
imploring you to take a shift. Medic team is needed around the clock,
but more so during 'peak' hours. Medic team needs YOUR help.
Send an e-mail to medic@scorchednuts.org

Rangers could use a few good folks!
Rangers are the mediators and 'security' at our event. If you're good
in crisis situations, putting drunks to bed, helping people, and
keeping an eye out for others, then this might be the team you're
looking for. It's a great way to meet people as you walk the grounds
and to be an integral part of many participants experience of our
event.
Send an e-mail to rangers@scorchednuts.org

DPW makes the city!
DPW or Department of Public Works, is a dedicated group of individuals
who come in before the effigy goes up and the camps come in, to set up
infrastructure and layout for the event. With all that hard work
comes some mad props and knowing that you helped create an experience
the participants won't forget.
Send an e-mail to dpw@scorchednuts.org

EarthGuardians needs a few good hands!
Let's make sure everyone understands our commitment to protecting the
land by LEAVING NO TRACE. Fully participate by not leaving something
for someone else to take care of. Bring gloves and sturdy garbage
bags and be prepared to take away your own trash and any other trash
left behind you can grab. Join the EG team in daily MOOP sweeps!
Send an e-mail to earthguardians@scorchednuts.org

Lamp Lighters light up the night!
What better way to participate and see the sights (and be seen) than
to join the Lamp Lighters. At dusk you, and the other Lamp Lighters
volunteers, will walk the city, lighting the way for the evening
festivities. You'll be part of the group that helps people find their
way home or to the next amazing theme camp.
Send an e-mail to lamplighters@scorchednuts.org

Participate!
Not sure where you're skills would be best utilized? Unsure of where
you would like to help out? Ask our Participation Lead to send you in
the right direction!
Send an e-mail to participate@scorchednuts.org

2008 Transparent Accounting

Where is last years accounting. As the other SN organizers plotted to have me fired as a regional contact last year (yes they even had a meeting on how to do it....) Where is the 2008 accounting? This is one of the complaints against me was I didnt post last years till feb. Well here we are in february and I havent found last years accounting.

I was bullied till I quit Scorched Nuts in May 2008. Even though I announced Scorched Nuts in 2006 at a Columbus house party in Clintonville, Came up with the name, found the venue, basically Scorched Nuts would not exist if not for me. I didn't even know the organizers yet (except one who rarely responded to me asking for help). They were not at the party, the one I knew at the time was invited and did not show.

In may, I was also accused of stealing $500, which was later discovered to be THEIR clerical error, no money was EVER missing. I am still waiting on an apology for being called a thief. I wont hold my breathe.

Angie and others.... You should atleast hold up to the standards you held me to.

Your former Burning Man Columbus Contact, being radically dis-included since May 2008

Don't worry, being dis-included from Burning Man I have reached out into my local community and found real family, I am very happy and have a lot more money now that I don't waste $3000+ a year to go to the hot desert and hangout in an event that has gotten to big to be what it wants, its stuck operating like a heartless bureaucratic corporation. I know because when I told my side of the story to a Senior Burning Man Employee, I was told I was lying! WHICH I WAS NOT! She told me she had heard it from multiple people so it must be true. Never mind that they had a meeting to get me fired, I bet it did sound strangely alike.

WELCOME:
Hey all! I am pleased to announce that beginning this week Scorched Nuts 2009 planning is underway. Although no theme is set yet, we plan to focus on bringing more large scale and interactive art and theme camps to this year's event. Due to the highly successful fund raiser Carnivolution, we will be able to supply art grants to many people who apply, as well as having a good fund to start the necessary arrangements. While we love Hannon's Camp America and hope to return with some of our events, we are currently begin to search for other spaces which may serve our growing community. If you know of a property you think we should check out, please send me a link so we can find out if it might be a good fit.
Please get signed up on koiburners.com to get involved in the discussions and decisions that will be surrounding SN09. There will be a lot coming up and we would love to hear from you!

Cross Post - Recycled Rainbow Theme for 2009: Elevation

Elevation is Recycled Rainbow’s theme for 2009, encouraging our participants to rise above their limitations, capabilities, and complacency towards boundless levels of creativity once thought too high to reach.

To reach Recycled Rainbow, travel to East Rochester, Ohio which is over 430 feet above Cleveland’s elevation. When you’re finally home, go far beyond the entrance, up and up, further than the ponds slipping far beneath you, outward passed all the grassy hills and trees, reaching for the sky, beyond and above the tree tops now behind you, forget about them, upward you go, to the biggest most elevated patch of the campground, already inspiring an upward sensibility, outward thinking, beyond your comfort zone, further than familiarity. You are at Recycled Rainbow … welcome home!

“Our elevation must be the result of self-efforts and work of our own hands. No other human power can accomplish it. If we but determine it shall be so, it will be so.” - Martin Delany (the first African American field officer in the United States Army during the Civil War. )

Elevation denies the default, like steam evaporating from water in nature, your consciousness raises upwards toward unexplored perception, ideas leap outward from your curious mind, beyond the barriers of your personal inhibitions, and further than your body allows.

Elevation denotes more than movement. It is uplifting, never looking down. Encouraging: to manifest into reality that which was previously imagined. Refreshing: having something new to share created by you.

If you can do your own lifting, you are lifting others as the higher elevation lifts us all.

“The human soul, as a part of the movement of life, is endowed with the ability to participate in the uplift, elevation, perfection, and completion. ” - Alfred Adler (a 19th century Austrian psychologist who was one of the three founders of depth psychology)

Creation requires elevation!

Upward, outward, beyond, and further….

Theme Idea...

Hello all,
Long time no see for some of you...
I have an idea for the theme for SN 09, assuming there is not one already.

ANTI-THEORY

"Just what is a theory? Theory more often than not serves to disprove other theories, to eliminate less likely possibilities in search of a truth. However, in a situation where there is no true or false [art/music] anti-theory is the practice of always remaining outside of the box by eliminating the box altogether." -Q. Reed Ghazala

The man who explained this to me is a chance artist. For years he's been building these "alien" instruments, wonderful contraptions of random electronic sounds crafted from Speak and Spells and a ton of other gadgets, and has made instruments for Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel, and many others.

Earlier this year he held a "Be-In", in which 30 or so people gathered in Cincy to show their inventions, play wacky ass music, and just be chill. They set up a dome, made lots of noise, and it was a magical time. If nothing else a few of them will likely come and play at SN. Reed may also be talked into coming to join the fun, he's totally down.

Not the easiest theme, but challenging could be fun. What do you think?

Greetings to all my Scorched Nuts tribe friends! Election for the moderation team in the main Burningman tribe!

Greetings, all!

I'm looking forward to seeing my friends at Interfuse this year, but I want to share with you a recent goings-on in the main Burningman Tribe! I'm up for a position on the moderation team of that tribe, and I'd really appreciate your support. To vote, you need two things and two things only- membership in the main Burningman tribe, and a Tribe account that's been open since Nov. 1. That's it. If you don't have membership, just hit "click to join" and you're there.

Find the 'vote for the moderation team' thread, and I'm one of the candidates. You can vote for three, but only three, and your vote cannot be duplicated. In other words, one burner, one vote per candidate.

THANKS for considering it. Tribe Help is monitoring the election and the tribe to get things off smoothly. The change has been very beneficial to the tribe.

I full-heartedly endorse any of the following, having either met them or corresponding with them regularly on tribe:

Rhino (but you knew that)
Bobzilla (manager of BMIR, 94.5 on the Black Rock Playa)
Elaine
FIDO
Evil Chris(Gate and Perimeter crew, BRC)
Gold Guy
Neon

Thanks in advance for your support in voting!

The Pittsburgh regional Frostburn is set for MLK weekend, Jan 16-19 2009

Check out all the updates for 2009 and get your tickets early!

www.frostburnpgh.com/

We hope some of the Ohio burners will make it to Frostburn - it was a lot of fun last year - Here are some pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/elizabethkeating/sets/72157603986792048/?page=4 (Courtesy of Beth Keating)

We have electric hookups so that you can plug in electric blankets and heaters. Last year thats what I did and I was fine (and I HATE the cold). We'll be posting some tips on cold weather camping on the website soon - but you also could rent a RV - they are cheap this time of the year. I believe you can rent one for about $150/night - which is not so bad if you can sleep 4-6 people in them.

Most of our community is heading out to the playa this year, but some of us are staying back to hold the fort. We are wondering if anyone staying back this year is interested in having a Burn Night Party on Sat. 30th? We will party and burn a little man in honor of the main event in BRC! Please respond with yeahs or neahs so we can plan accordingly! Thanks!

What's your plan for burning man?

I can't recall talking to any "nuts" at Scorched Nuts about their specific plans for the playa this year, but then again there are probably a few other things that I can't specifically recall. I usually hook up with a group from Oregon that brings a theme camp, but it looks like they have disintegrated into chaos this year. I have convinced Lincoln to go, and right now we are doing the classic fly vs. drive debate. So here is what I'm wondering...

Are there any "clusters of nuts" that go to the playa? Are there any "nut-based" theme camps? Or caravans of "nuts" driving out?

Thanks
Darryl

Hey yall peps! We have been discussing when to get together and have a community discussion about things to come in the next year. It looks like for now the best time will be Saturday August 2nd! We will announce a location soon but we are looking for a park shelter to have a potluck picnic and we will try to make it a central location so travelers will not have to go to far out of the way.
It is the goal of this meeting to discuss the pros and cons of past events, look for volunteer coordinators to step up for octOHburn and future events, find out what events the community is looking to have and generally get things organized for the next season of burns.
The meeting will most likely be run by myself or Poosie, although my attendance largely depends on my baby's arrival ;) We will be in touch as more details develop!

Recycled Rainbow Primer THIS WEEKEND

What: Recycled Rainbow Primer
Where: Crystal Springs Campground, North Ridgeville, OH
When: 12 noon Saturday July 19 until 3pm Sunday, July 20.
Cost: $10 for land and porta-johns.

Download The Flyer (PDF)

Recycled Rainbow is providing an opportunity for Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio participants to gather and prototype their projects closer to home at Crystal Springs Campground in North Ridgeville starting at 12 noon on July 19 and ending at 3pm on July 20. A $10 donation is requested to pay for land and porta-potties.

Participants who are prototyping structures may arrive the night of the 18th (Friday night).

This event is open to the public and anyone interested in witnessing participants testing out their gear and prototyping their projects as well as joining in the festivities are welcome to attend.

During this event any installation or art piece including those using sound and fire can be built on a spacious 20 acre field nestled comfortably between the Ohio Turnpike and a very busy train track.

Electricity and water will not be provided so participants prototyping installations that require electricity and/or water must provide their own.

Entertainment will not be provided- unless, of course, you bring your own entertainment, which we assume you will. All rules for Recycled Rainbow apply at the Primer. While this event is not Recycled Rainbow, all information, preparation and guidelines are also useful for the Primer.

We look forward to seeing you in July!

Rock & Roll Carnival & Decompression Party

Alright, let's make this o-fish-ee-al.

The awesome Northside Rock & Roll carnival is coming up next weekend (4th of July). Lots of your favorite local burners will be performing, there will be also be a parade, bands, taste of Northside, etc. We just happen to live within 3 blocks of it, so let's make this a little mini-decompression party.

http://www.northsiderocks.com/

Thursday night come hang out at the carnival and catch Incendium, Barnyard Burlesque, Sideshow Bennie, etc. etc. Out of towners are welcome to crash on our floor or set up a tent in the small patch of grass that passes for our yard.

Friday, July 4th after the parade is over we will open up our house. We will have cocktails and mixers, vegetarian food on the grill (although you can bring your own meat if you want...giggle), and chill space to hang out somewhere comfy and be out of the sun for awhile. Should you feel moved to bring food, booze, or whatever to share, that is always welcome too. This way people can walk/bike/whatever back and forth between the carnival and our place. After hours we can make a small bonfire in our pitiful little fire pit. Again, out of towners or locals too far gone to get home are welcome to stay over...assuming we ever make it to bed.

If you think you'd like to come, please RSVP so I know how much food to buy. Send an email to modcomplex@gmail.com and I will send you our address and directions.

Recycled Rainbow Seeks Freaks, Geeks, Art Cars & Human Stars!

(This message is posted on a few different tribes: Don't worry, you're not going crazy...or are you?)

Pyrophonicville (RR) -- Recycled Rainbow 2008 is looking like it will be bigger and badder than ever. Head gatekeeper and queen Mediaeval Baebe reports that there are many new ideas for 2008, and many new faces.

"We found some fantabulous land this year!" she said excitedly, jumping up and down and spilling her absinthe. "One of the gorgeous freak things has been working on an art car for a few months now, and there will be a burlesque performance Friday night. I hear they're seeking performers for it."

When asked about the term "gorgeous freak things", Mediaeval Baebe pointed to a group photo of people otherwise known as "burners", or "those lame ass drug addicted dirty hippies" according to Fox News.

"There are loads of ideas and shenanigans being planned for RR this year. I don't even know WHERE to begin." MB reported. "We invite YOU to bring YOUR thing. Here's the stage, now you have the freedom to show your stuff."

Recycled Rainbow will be held Thursday, September 25th - Sunday the 28th. Tickets are on sale now. To purchase tickets (and get more information), visit the website @ http://www.recycledrainbow.org

To those who wanted to connect with me for pictures and/or contact....here I am, so send me a message!

What a great event! It was worth the 8+ hour drive. Thank you, organizers! Thanks, Mac, for setting up a great camp to stay at. Thank you Woodbusters for all the great fires, and all you local people who put in so much work to pull this thing off. Thanks to our neighbors for fantastic 80s party...it was one of the highlights of my festival!

Pokes, your Knob looked impressive and though I didn't think my throat could take it, it was still nice to look at from a safe distance.

I loved looking out from the central fire to all the theme camps, lights & costumes. I definitely got that "playa feeling" at times.

I do believe we all successfully raised the nut!
Thanks again, everyone!

to almost piss myself laughing several times throughout the weekend. to not see a bunch of drama, litter, wanton drug abuse and disrespect. to be saved by vapours steam tent when i got hot pepper oil on my hands and face (special thanks). to unleash my musical mind upon the unsuspecting ears of those who ventured into the bass box. to live like a sheik in the fluffyness of pillows and scented smoke at the knob. and most of all ... to be around people like you. thanks

Oh wow! All the waiting is finally over! How exciting! Is everyone packed and ready to go? I can't help but be extra excited for this year because I will be without child! Yay! Free Mama weekend!

Any-hoo... Just wanted to drop a line and let everyone know how excited I am for this year. As I am sure everyone knows (we kind of have this reputation - take it or leave it, its our thing) - Camp Katet is ready to help with your parting needs this year at Scorched Nuts! Plenty of games and parties to keep you humming all weekend long!

Also - we will be hosting Luckey's Lunch (no - I didn't spell it wrong, that's my last name, but thanks for asking) on Friday and Saturday around 2:00. We'll have enough to serve roughly 40 people - so get there early to get the goods! Yummy homemade black bean burgers and baked potato bar on Friday and vegetarian tortilla stew, cheese and onion quesidillas and corn bread on Saturday!

I'll be there Wednesday! See ya when you get there!

We are rolling in from St. Louis after work on Thursday night. We will be leaving around 5:30pm (after work), which will put us in at, according to mapping, 10:30pm, but you know, more likely Burner Standard Time after all the shuffling, renting a car, packing it, etc. Gates close at 10.
We don't have ticketes because this was a total last minute "HEY LET'S GO TO SCORCHED NUTS!" from a week ago.
Soooooo we can 1: Bust ass and risk a speeding ticket to get there on time, 2: Sleep in our car at the gate, 3: PayPal now and have tickets waiting at the gate? 4: Hope the gate stays open a wee bit later? 5: Offer sexual favors?
:) Any ideas?

Lets put the FU back in FUN shall we!
What we don't want to see at Scorched Nuts!

I for one do not want to see any "ART"at Scorched Nuts!
Art sucks especially when its insignificant and small. Bring big art or go home. Your little paintings
don't excite me.

Music - Cant we all just enjoy looking at each others pretty little faces. Who needs dancing and
music... that shit really makes me uncomfortable.

can you think of anything that you don't want to see at Scorched Nuts....... just curious

feel free to elaborate....

this is not serious for you sensitive folk

Does anyone have either or both of those? I heard there wasn't any amplified music last year, and i'd love to be the guy that provides that faint yet ever-present backbeat to the entire event.

Also, i heard i needed to talk to everyman about this... yoo hoo, everyman?

Ways to Help Out!

In these final days there are a couple ways you can help us out in preperations for Scorched Nuts!

If you have time on Saturday there will be much prep work going on at HCA including, but not limited to, sign installation, effigy completion, camp set ups and clean ups. As far as I know there arent plans for an overnight stay but you can certainly camp if you want to!

If you have $10, we could really use rechargeable AAA batteries for our new walkie talkies! Energizer brand would be good, but any rechargeable brand would be wonderful!

If you have an need to be involved, there are always more room for volunteers! Lamplighters, Conclave performance, Gate Keeping and Earth Guardians are all still accepting volunteers!

If you feel creative, make or bring some artwork to show in Center Camp! 2-D and 3-D art is welcome! It really spruced up the barn at octOHburn and we hope to have even more to share at this event! Please make sure your work is labeled and is ready to hang! Nails are acceptable, but those removable picture hanger things are great!

If you wanna light it up, make a lantern to use at the event! There have been some made of glass jars and others of tin cans, but really any nonflammable lantern will be put to use! Tea light and votive candles would be great to bring along as well!

If you want to set up early, you can! Many of us will be out on Wednesday next week and you can too! You will be expected to pay for your site separately from your ticket price for that night, and then you will be processed when the gate opens at 2 on Thursday.

If you have any other requests, add them on here!!!

Can you buy firewood and ice at Scorched Nuts?

I can't transport my firewood across county lines and if I could keep my ice frozen for four days I wouldn't need to buy any.

That being said... is Hannon's going to be selling firewood and ice?

Hello lovelies!
At Scorched Nuts Uno, were were graced with many talented performers of many disciplines that came together for an amazing pre burn performance. Next year we hope to have more, and of course a bigger, badder (and more organized) show. I am opening the roster far in advance, and it is my hope to bring these talents together in a more collaborative setting, to better utilize these skills and deliver a show S.N. participants will never forget! I would like to incorporate more of our beloved performers other skills, such as our lovely bellies, and discuss the possibility of set choreography and score from the many musicians that blew us away last time.

If you are up to the challenge, or simply want to be involved in the chaos, you may contact us at incendiumarts@yahoo.com.
Please include your name, specialties/tools, and a telephone number where you can be reached, and I will keep you updated on new additions to the roster as they come in. Thank you all and see you in the forest!!!

Okay,

Does ANYONE remember the name of that company (or better yet have the website) that sells the reasonably priced medievalish looking canopies? They used to advertise on Tribe...but, I don't see them no more.

Anyone have suggestions for a cheap 10x20 EZ up with a little style?

Scorched Nuts Info!

Hello Scorched Nuts Participants!

First and foremost I would like to thank you for purchasing a ticket to our event. We're all looking forward to seeing and playing with you in just a few short weeks. The time is passing by so quickly. We have just over two weeks before we all have to be packed, loaded, and on our way.

This is our first ever announcement straight from us to your inbox! We have a request for some info, but mainly it's all about informing you about what to expect, what you need to know, and a little teaser thrown in for good measure.

Here's a run down (in order) of what you'll find in this announcement:
Extra ticket sent to you?
Survival Guide basics
Minors at the event
Gate times
Gate policy/parking
Red Light District and nudity
Leave No Trace (LNT)
Volunteer opportunities
Event teaser
10 Principles

So read on! And remember, as always, if you have a question (or comment) send it on in, we'll answer as fast as we can. :D

Can't wait to see you all at HOME!
April / Poosie Kat
SN Ranger Coordinator

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*)*()*()*(

*********************************
Extra ticket sent to you?

A little while back we ran into some ticketing system problems and as a result there may have been a few of you who received a ticket (or two) that you didn't originally purchase. We're asking that if you are one of these people that you e-mail us with the ticket number(s) and when you purchased your ticket. That's all. Since that time things have been straightened out and everyone who purchased a ticket should either have theirs, or it should be to them within a week or two of purchase.
And remember, the $40 on-line and vendor ticket sales end June 12th. After that all tickets will have to be purchased at the gate for $50 each. If you know someone who's still thinking about coming out please remind them of the end of the $40 tickets. THANKS!

**********************************
Survival Guide

Don't forget to read over the Survival Guide. It contains information on everything from what to do if you forget your ticket to animals at the event. Read it over once, then go back and read it again. There will be portions that apply to some more than others, but really, it all applies to everyone.

http://www.scorchednuts.org/survival.html

***********************************
Minors at the event

Unfortunately someone under the age of 18 is still considered a minor/child by law. We have to follow that thinking. Without a parent or legal guardian then a person under the age of 18 will not admitted. This is due to the fact that if a medical emergency arises for anyone considered a minor by law we can get into serious trouble giving them care. If we had some sort of written consent on file from their parent/legal guardian we might be able to admit them, however, at this time we have no such consent forms to fill out or the protocol with which to handle them. I'm sorry about the inconvenience. I know that the Survival Guide says that anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21+ years of age, disregard that. We unfortunately can't allow that at this time due to state laws. As always, if you disagree with a law it's up to you, as a constituent, to contact your representatives (local and beyond) to let them know what you think and why you think it.

*************************************
Gate Times

The gate will be open:

Thursday, June 19th: 2pm to 10pm
Friday, June 20th: 10am to 10pm
Saturday, June 21st: 10am to 10pm
Sunday, June 22nd: Closed for arrivals....it's exodus time.

**************************************
Gate Policy

Tickets at the gate will be sold for $50.

If you arrive when gates are closed, you have to have a valid ticket (sorry no ticket sales when gates are closed). Please park in a safe location up stairs where the cabins are located and find a SN volunteer wearing a SN bandanna or carrying a walkie talkie. They will contact the Gatekeeper and arrange for your car to be let in. Avoid late arrivals if at all possible!

Come prepared to stay, bring everything you need because you are not allowed to go in and out once you arrive. The idea is that everyone is coming to stay, we don't want a lot of in and out traffic (it makes the gate crew's job that much harder) and we need to have a closed and subdued gate at night. If you want to come and participate, come in the daylight (easier to set up camp) and come prepared to stay. Exceptions will be made for emergencies but most be authorized with the Head Gatekeeper.
****************************************
Red Light District and Nudity

This year we have a Red Light District (RLD). No, this does not mean we have prostitutes ready for business (this is a non-vendor event after all....heeheehee). The RLD will be where adult-themed theme camps will be located. If you know that you're not okay with seeing adult-theme activities, have children you don't want to see these activities, etc, then do NOT go into the RLD. We are encouraging folks to take their love of porn, exhibitionism, mass lovin's, etc to camp in the RLD, and make it as adult as we can. So, if your camp is known for it's orgies, it's porn showing, beaver eating contests, or the like, then the RLD is the place for you. It will be very clearly marked. There will be red lights denoting it's entrance. We are doing this for the safety and comfort of those that are camping in the RLD. It's up to YOU to police what YOU see and do. You are responsible for yourself and the type of activities you participate in. If you don't like it, don't participate in it, there are more than enough activities of various kinds taking place around Scorched Nuts.

As for nudity, it will, like last year, be allowed all over Scorched Nuts. If you don't like to see peoples jiggly bits, don't look at them. Just because someone is naked does NOT mean that they are participating in adult-themed activities, just that they happen to have nothing covering their skin. If being nude is your thing, feel free to disrobe once you're in Scorched Nuts.

*****************************************
Leave No Trace (LNT)

LNT practices are more than simply encouraged, they are your responsibility as a Scorched Nuts participants. You will be expected to take your trash with you when you leave (pack it in, pack it out), to pick up trash (MOOP - Matter Out Of Place) whenever and where ever you find it, and to generally make sure that Hannon's Camp America (our wonderful hosts) is as clean, if not cleaner than, when you arrived. Everyone is to do a camp sweep for MOOP before they leave, but doing it as you go is also encouraged. There will be NO dumpsters on site. You are NOT to dump your trash on the side of the road when leaving Scorched Nuts, not only is it unsightly, it's also littering, which is illegal.

For more LNT information and practical practices go check out these sites:
http://afterburn.burningman.com/06/community/earth_guardians.html
http://www.burningman.com/environment/lnt_outdoor.html
http://www.lnt.org/

LNT is everyones responsibility.

*****************************************
Volunteer opportunities

Volunteer opportunities are still available, even after you arrive.

You could volunteer some time at Gate (gatekeepers@scorchednuts.org) taking tickets, welcoming participants home, and being the first person people see when they arrive. It's a fun way to pass some time and meet some new people.

You could volunteer some time with the Lamplighters (lamplighters@scorchednuts.org) helping to bring light to our fair event every day at dusk. It's a much needed activity and a fun way to see what's around and to participate in yet another way. It's always a joy to see the Lamplighters doing what they do.

You could volunteer some time with the Rangers (rangers@scorchednuts.org) being a calm, patient mediator. The Rangers walk about the grounds insuring that everything is running smoothly, connecting people to each other and other volunteer opportunities, educating participants, and taking care of emergencies if they happen to arise.

You could volunteer some time with Earth Guardians (earthguardians@scorchednuts.org) going around picking up MOOP, educating participants on LNT practices, and generally helping to ensure that we leave the campgrounds as clean (or cleaner) than we found them.

You could volunteer some time with Medics (medics@scorchednuts.org) to make sure that if anyone has a medical problem/emergency that they are taken care of. Any major emergency will require outside help. You don't have to be a doctor, EMT, or nurse to help out, though that's always helpful. Contact Medics for more information if you're interested.

If you're a fire performer and want to be a part of any group fire performance you should contact the Fire Conclave (fireconclave@scorchednuts.org). All fire performers are required to have at least one safety who is up on their safety duties and are encouraged to contact the Fire Conclave Coordinator. Contact Fire Conclave for more info.

If you're a performer of any other sort and want to perform in Center Camp or want to be listed as one of the events taking place, you should contact the Participation Coordinator (participate@scorchednuts.org) or the Performance Coordinator (performance@scorchednuts.org).

********************************************
Events Teaser

Some activities that might be to your liking at Scorched Nuts this year include (but are by no means limited to):
Pajama Party
Metallica Power Hour
Beer Pong Championships
Pornyata Busting
Massage
Henna
Letter/Passage Readings
3rd Shift Procession
Bellydance
Fire Dance

And SO much more! So what are YOU bringing?

***********************************************
10 Principles

Last, but certainly not least, the 10 principles on which this event is based:

Radical Inclusion
Anyone may be a part of Scorched Nuts. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.

Gifting
Scorched Nuts is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value.

Decommodification
In order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social environments that are unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience.

Radical Self-reliance
Scorched Nuts encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on his or her inner resources.

Radical Self-expression
Radical self-expression arises from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content. It is offered as a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the recipient.

Communal Effort
Our community values creative cooperation and collaboration. We strive to produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art, and methods of communication that support such interaction.

Civic Responsibility
We value civil society. Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities to participants. They must also assume responsibility for conducting events in accordance with local, state and federal laws.

Leaving No Trace
Our community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them.

Participation
Our community is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play. We make the world real through actions that open the heart.
Immediacy
Immediate experience is, in many ways, the most important touchstone of value in our culture. We seek to overcome barriers that stand between us and a recognition of our inner selves, the reality of those around us, participation in society, and contact with a natural world exceeding human powers.
Final (I hope) plea for effigy help

Not intending to jack with the work weekend out at Hannon's, which is the priority, I will be out at Synctuary working on the effigy all day Sunday trying to complete the palm and thumbs.

I've already got some hands coming out, but all help will be appreciated, especially anyone with carpentry or construction experience.

The wrist is framed. It needs a little bit of tweaking for shoring up, but it's done other than that. Thanks for all your help everyone. She's beautiful and will only get sexier.

Additionally, I just put in an order for $500 in pyro, so I've used up my entire budget and paid a whole bunch mahself. As a result, I'm asking if anyone's got any of the following:

***1 4x8 sheet of inch thick plywood and 4 8' lengths of 2x4

***a dozen or more road flares (yeah, we're out and need quite a few more...the tests ate up more than we thought.

***cotton cloth, used (but clean) cotton t-shirts for skinning this beauty

***access to a cube van or box truck to transport the effigy on June 15th--the effigy can NOT be transported in an open truck or trailer, and the wrist is almost eight feet tall. If anyone has a cube van or box truck, or knows someone who does, please let me know ASAP.

I'll rent if I have to, screw it, this baby's gonna be there on time and do its thing.

Greetings Everyone !

It's time to seek out those that are interested in Fire Performing, Fire Dancing, and those special behind the scene peps that keep it all safe and organized, the Fire Safety Crew.

Having been a participant in the Inner Circle at Burning Man and at other burns, I can tell you that it is truly an honor and a priviledge. A real gift of sharing to the community. So if your headed to Wicker Man and are interested in being a special part of the burn event this is a great way to participate.

I am looking for a head count. So shout out if your are ready to strut your stuff as an experienced and talented Fire Performer or Fire Dancer or if your are interested in participating on our Fire Safeties Crew. No worries, for those that have interest but are not quite ready to perform, your help is needed as a Fire Safety. And yes, for those with no experience as a Fire Safety, we will teach you !!

There will be a mandatory coordination meeting for those that are interested in participating which will provide all the details, as well as training for Fire Safeties on Saturday @ 2:00pm. At this meeting you will recieve your placard pass which will allow you access and the honor to be in Wicker Man's "Inner Circle".

The meeting will be held at the Dining Hall Tent. This is the large shade tent about half way down the hill on the left side, across from the kitchen.

May 17th at Hannons Camp America is the 29th annual St. Alphonso's Pancake Breakfast. Basically...Saturday morning at the ass-crack of dawn a HUGE batch of "green" pancakes are made and consumed until they're all out. Then regular pancakes until everyone's full.

The local 513-859 union of fire tenders will be busting our cherries for the season. We're planning to come out Friday night and have a small fire with our first large fire of the year Saturday night.

It's free, though purchase of the year's original T-shirt is strongly encouraged.

Hope to see ya'll there!

Howdy folks! I'm bringing you news of ways to help out Scorched Nuts by camping with friends and tickets changes and updates.

SN Volunteer Work Weekend
May 31-June 1
Hannon's Camp America

As we quickly approach the second year for Scorched Nuts (http://scorchednuts.org) we wanted to let you know of a way to benefit the community, the event, and the camping venue. Burners from IN, KY, and OH will be gathering at Hannon's Camp America (the venue for Scorched Nuts) from May 31st to June 1. We'll be camping out (free tent camping, $10 bunk rental if that's your thing), painting signs, digging post holes, building bridges, and ladders into tree houses. This work is mutually beneficial to the community and Hannon's. Come help us foster more community growth and give back. And as always is the case when Burners gather to work, we'll have an amazingly good time.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

SN Ticket Changes and Updates

Hey folks, we've been looking over our ticket sales deadlines and have decided to make a couple of quick, and beneficial to the procrastinator, revisions. First, the deadline for mail-in orders has been pushed back to May 31st for the postmarked date. If it's postmarked after that you're check or money order will be sent back in the mail and you'll have to purchase your ticket on-line or with a vendor. Secondly, tickets will be on sale on-line and will vendors until June 12th. After that time you can purchase your tickets at the gate. Also, you have until midnight tonight to purchase a ticket for the $30 price, after that until June 12th tickets will be $40. We've also lowered the gate price to $50. All deadlines, unless otherwise noted, are until 11:59pm of the date listed. Also please note that there has been a gate policy change, there will be NO in-and-out passes this year. Be prepared to come and stay. You will not be permitted to leave and come back once you exit the gates. Thank you.

To summerize:

Mail-in postmark Deadline: May 31st for $40 tickets
On-line/Vendor Deadline: June 12th for $40 tickets
$30 Ticket Deadline (on-line only): May 12th
$40 Ticket Deadline: June 12th
$50 Gate Ticket Sales: June 19th during gate hours - June 21st at 5pm
No leaving after arrival.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

Thank you all for your help and your patience. We hope to see you out at Scorched Nuts, or any of the upcoming events, gatherings, work weekend, etc that we have going on through out the year.

As always, be safe, be happy, and have fun.

May 23-25 Workshop Weekend

Here's the short of it:

May 23-25
Synctuarie
$10 pre-pay meal-plan (rhellemans2(at)gmail(dot)com) *
$5 at door for workshop

Workshops will be:
LED/Lighting
Yarn dying (Ann...is this correct?)
Hoop making and dancing

Also going on:
L3K work (come out if you're going out with L3K this year)
SN effigy work

*The meal plan was raised to insure that it's not so close this time around and that no one is having to pay extra to cover it all.

As always, this is open to the community at large. EVERYONE is welcome. A quick look at Burning Man's 10 principles ( http://www.burningman.com/whatisburningman/about_burningman/principles.html ) will show you Radical Inclusion at the top of the list. It's an important part of our community...not just out on the playa, but here in our back yard as well.

This doesn't mean that we allow child molesters to come into your house and play with your kids. Nope. We do try to look out for our community. But it does mean that we welcome people in, that we encourage them to interact with us and to be a part of our community. You don't have to have the same sense of humor, the same world/life outlook, or belong to the same spiritual/religious path to be a part of this community.

As things stand, Workshop Weekends at Synctuarie are for the community, by the community....so they follow the 10 principles as much as we can, which means that everyone is welcome. I'm sure as time goes on people will find others in the community that they have a problem with for one personal reason or another, but that will NEVER translate into people not being welcome to my Workshop Weekends. Personal quibbles are just that....personal and do not translate into quibbles with the community at large.

Also, as always, if anyone has a problem that they think that I can help out with.....examples: nasty remarks being said about you by people and you don't know how to confront them.....you see someone taking advantage of the community in a negative/user manner....a problem with how someone deals with others.....etc.......please feel free to contact me immediately....no matter who it may be. Hell, it could be me......but if you don't feel like you can confront me, please feel free to contact Graham or Pokes. Both will call me on my shit...and both will call others on their shit.

Thank you lovelies! I love you all!

Effigy update

The effigy is beginning to really take shape (although looking at the pieces, you might not guess that is so). I'm going to try to find some time to get back out to work on some of the inner workings in the near future.

I can't thank Captain O My Captain enough as the true brains of the build process. He's been absolutely, completely invaluable. The same goes for Derek, Graham, Poosie, Chris and all the others who have pitched in and helped.

It was really amazing to lay out the fingers yesterday and compare them with the drawings (or our own hands) and see that it's actually happening and is going to be AMAZING.

There will be much to do at the May workshop weekend. If we get enough hands in the process that will include skinning the effigy, something we'd like everyone to help with. Anyone who has scrap cotton cloth (t-shirt thickness is perfect), please bring it with you that weekend. A bottle of Elmers glue would be welcome as well.

Thanks, everyone!

The schedule is up on the website ( http://www.midwestburners.com/interfuse/eventsandperformers.html ) so check it out!

Even with all the scheduled programs there are still a few open slots just waiting for YOU, wonderful, beautiful participant, to....you guessed it....pARTicipate! Be it being a part of the poetry jam, talk show, fashion show, or creating your own programming.

For all you theme camps out there, perhaps a 'commercial' on the stage is JUST the thing for you. Just come to the stage, find the stage manager (Poosie Kat, JeffZ, Trish, and Laura) and there you go! Also, PSA's sound like a fun way to participate and share with the community at large. If you're a performer without a place to perform, this is your venue darlin', come out and share yourself with us! Fun for the performers and the viewers.

Be sure to come out to watch and/or add your talents to the list. There are still calls out for folks to participate in the Opening Ceremonies, Poetry Jam, Talk Show, Fashion Show, Bribe-per-View, and open time slots....so be sure to make your way over and join in the fun and excitement!

Stop by any of these times:

Thursday 6PM-Friday 5AM
Friday Noon-Saturday 6AM
Saturday Noon-4PM

The rest of the time the TV will be an open stage but without lights, sound, and video.

The schedule will also come in the form of a TV Guide with the Gate Handout at InterFuse.

ALSO, we desperately need night owl Stage Managers from 2AM-5AM Friday morning and 12:45AM-5AM Saturday morning! That's a 3 hour and a 4 hour 15 minute period! I KNOW there are two of you out there who can help out for 3-4 hours! These shifts are during Bribe-Per-View, so you'll be getting bribed to play movies. No live performance coordinating is needed! It will be very EASY and FUN!! Plus, Trish will give you bacon!

If you're interested, please contact Zay@midwestburners.com

(Pardon the X-post) Fund raiser for your local fire crew. Show your support in one of our sexy Ts

Yes, the fire crew now has a union badge/logo. It's posted on my profile, newest pic.

We're going to be selling T Shirts as a fund raiser for this season. They'll be black on fire engine red. The logo on the front left breast and large, bold, block caps on the back, centered on two lines: SUPPORT CREW.

Sadly, for all my trying this week I can't seem to get the shirts made to bring out to the workshop weekend. But, I'm at least going to see if I can't get the logo printed on a bright red background so everyone can see what they'll look like. If anyone has someone in screen printing who owes them their first born or something...let me know ASAP.

We're going to ask $20 because it is a fund raiser and we're doing them in a small batch, which is pricier. Even at that I won't get back part of my investment in getting them made, but that's fine.

S, M, L, XL, XXL...whatever.

Who:
This is an organized work weekend that is open to Burners and the general public. The more the merrier! Tent camping is free if you register to help out with one of the work projects we will be completing that weekend. There will projects available for all work types, so don't worry if you can't do any heavy work and need to take it easy. Bring a tent, a friend and some party supplies for the evening! RV's and bunk rentals will be $10 each.

What:
These projects were chosen by the Hannon's and agreed upon by some of the SN organizers. They are things that will benefit their campgrounds, as well as our event. In exchange for our work, they are reducing our rental cost by $500, and as they say in the carpet business we are passing the savings on to you! ;) We will divide our workforce into 4 separate teams with specific tasks to work on for the weekend. The main work will be done on Saturday, party and bonfire Saturday evening and then some finish up and clean up on Sunday. Any time or effort you can contribute would be greatly appreciated at this community building effort. If applicable we will provide or sign community service/ volunteer hour forms so spread the word to anyone who needs such hours for credits or work. All materials will be provided, however if you have tools or materials to bring or donate to the cause it would be wonderful! The teams/ projects as of now are:
1. Campsite markers- 5+ people
- finalize construction of simple campsite markers
- use motorized post hole digger and install markers according to the camp map
2. Sign painting in barn- 5+ people
- letter precut directional signs (steady hand and clear handwriting a must!)
- varnish posts and signs
- paint larger signage to be hung at entrances and throughout campgrounds
3. Building Maintainence- 5+ people
- clean/ sweep out main buildings (barn/ bathrooms/ cabins)
- install toilet paper and paper towel dispensers
- various other low key maintenance work (possible painting)
4. Island cleanup- 10+ people
- remove chicken wire, nails and garbage from trails and structures
- clear and define paths
Each team will have a Foreman to help with direction and completion of the projects.

When:
April 12-13, 2007. Organized volunteer work will begin at 10ish Saturday morning. We will have a lunch around 2ish and try to finish up around 6ish. There will be a bonfire after dark, and as the motto goes, Work Hard, Party Harder!!!

Where:
Hannon's Camp America, 8501 Camden College- Corner Rd, College Corner, Ohio 45003. To reserve a bunk contact jeanne@hannonscampamerica.com. To register as a volunteer please contact participate@scorchednuts.com with the headline "Volunteer Weekend".

This will be a fun and rewarding weekend that will bring you closer to our community, and the amazing people who are working like crazy to make Scorched Nuts the event of the year!!!!!

When: April 18-20
What: Costumery
How Much: $7 pre-pay for meal-plan *

* go to paypal to send your $7 to Rebecca, the Kitchen Queen, at rhellemans2@gmail.com Put "food" in the message so she knows where the money goes. If you don't have paypal then pm me. If you don't want the meal plan, then you'll need to bring enough food for yourself for the whole weekend. Only those that pre-pay for the meal-plan can partake of the delicious food that Rebecca prepares....it's worth MORE than the $7....especially for a weekends worth of food. Rebecca will post a meal list for you all to look over and "Yay" and "Nay" here soon.

Bring all your costume ideas. Bring those bits that you've been saving, but have yet to find a use for. Bring your sewing machine if you have one. Bring your yard and needles. Bring your questions and your knowledge. Bring those items that are just too plain-jane for your burner outfits. This time we're ALL the teachers and we're ALL the students....well...actually that's the normal bit....but still. We're going to be helping one another out, bouncing ideas off one another, learning little tips, hints, and tricks from those that do what they do best. Later there can/will be more in depth workshops on much of what'll be covered this weekend.

What to bring:
Bedding/sleeping gear
Costume ideas
Costume pieces
Snacks (not meal food)
Fabric (if that's your thing)
A glass/cup to call your own

Hey all,

The effigy has been moving forward in leaps and bounds. Today I scored MORE free materials for construction, lowering the cost again considerably as well as making the design better in the process. Yay!

But, I AM struggling with a portion of the design and need help.

If there is anyone out there in Burnerland who is good with 3D modeling or drafting or knows someone who is, especially if they're familiar with Google Sketchup, I could really use some help!

Message me here on tribe and I can get you contact info.

Thank you!

All hands on deck for construction of the SN2008 community effigy

STATUS:

There was an unveiling of sorts at the SN organizers meeting this passed weekend. I unveiled the design of the community effigy. While it's still partially in the conceptual drawing stage, the construction documents are actually already 2/5 of the way done and will be completed by or before March 31st.

I have had a great deal of concept and design help from: Yawfren, Will, Mac, Maegdlyn, Tim, Chris, Captain Oh My Captain and others. Chris has been putting together conceptual drawings and the most recent ones will be posted VERY soon and will post the construction drawings the second they are done..

Tim Black has graciously donated space in his garage for the construction, to begin at the workshop weekend April 18-20. We will need the hands of anyone interested in helping.

http://ohio.tribe.net/event/Workshop-Weekend-April-18-to-20/ohio-us/41013e07-ed6c-4014-8046-918b8ab23c69

THE DESIGN:

Basically, without further ado...the effigy is to be a 10' tall modified GONZO fist.

http://images.google.com/images?q=gonzo+fist&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzo_journalism

Clearly, the dagger and logo are being omitted, and the peyote button also (for aesthetic reasons only).

We've added an eye on the back of the hand.

THE CONSTRUCTION:

The skeleton or wire frame will be constructed primarily out of 1x1 and 1.5x1wood, generously (to be) scavenged by Charlie, and some 1/2" plywood.

It will then be wrapped and skinned in natural cloth scraps generously provided by Maegdlyn from her seamstressing business.

HELP!:

Captain Oh My Captain has graciously signed on to help where he can that weekend and lend his expertise in fabrication, and of course I will be working on it most of the weekend.

* We'll need as many hands as we can get helping with the building of the skeleton and especially with the process of wrapping and skinning.

* If there is someone (or a few someones) who'd like to design and construct the eye, they are more than welcome to.

* I am also still taking input on portions of the construction and may need logistical help hauling the cloth, wood, etc out to Synctuarie.

The idea is for the entire community to be a part of the construction in one way or another. This is YOUR effigy I hope some or all of ya'll are as excited about it as I am.
