Hey everybody,
Please work within your groups to determine how much fuel you need for burn night. Try not to bring too much. A little extra is okay... but remember, we are only spinning for roughly 25 minutes, so there is no need for everyone to bring a gallon.
Who is using what type of fuel? Are people mixing? If so, be sure to let the fuel depot attendant(s) know so that they can keep everything straight.
Fuel Dump "do's and don'ts":
~~ Do mark your fuel/container well and retrieve it after the burn.
~~ Do keep your tools all together
~~ Do mark your tools well so that they are easily identifiable as yours. (Colored tape works well... use more than one color if possible).
~~ Do bring a flashlight.
~~ Don't pour fuel into any container that doesn't belong to you.
~~ Don't dip your tools in any container unless you know what fuel is in it.
~~ Don't leave your tools soaking.. they may inadvertently walk away.
~~ Don't smoke near the fuel dump... DUH!
You may want to start thinking about how you are going to get all your gear out to the playa on burn night. We have a friend with an art car who has agreed to haul our stuff out there. Let them know you need to be to the Great Circle no later than 8pm. Remind them that by getting there early, they will have a choice spot for their art car.
Feel free to add any sage advice you find applicable (Tedward? I know you must have some words from the voice of experience.)

Re: Fuel for Burn night! (and other stuff)
Fri, August 17, 2007 - 6:40 PMRed, green and blue glow sticks.
Green goes in the white gas, blue in lamp oil, red in kerosene. Or pick any color scheme that works for you, but make sure the whole group is on the same page. Drop them INside the dip containers. Make sure to fill any dip bucket with only the right fuel. Dip in whatever bucket is nearby. Speeds things up.
If you're using lamp oil, bio-Diesel, or some kinds of Kero, dip them as soon as you get in the great circle and have a milk crate for dipped tools. then, the ones that you -can- dip ahead of time are managed and out of the way. then have a white gas touch station to get them lit quick. A shallow pan does the trick.
- keep fuels in glowsticked dip buckets or in original retail containers only. If you mix fuels use a different container.
- If someone is wounded on the playa (roughly 1 in 30) they become the fuel bitch: hold the flash light, pre-dip tools, etc.
- Store backpacks, water, coats, etc near the audience. Keep the fuel area as pristine as possible. Segregate everything: fuel, tools, spin out, etc.
- Buy a couple of disposable cameras and give them to audience members who park early, retrieve them after the show.
You arrive at 8pm, the show is at 9:30, and you won't find a potty 'till 10:30. Pee first.
An art car can get you in, but it's much harder to connect up afterwards. Bring something on wheels (not a bike, we're talking a shopping trolley or something) to carry lost items out. -

Re: Fuel for Burn night! (and other stuff)
Wed, September 12, 2007 - 9:43 AMoo how is the ehtyl acetate fuel compared to white gas?
my particular prop of choice is devil sticks (spun next to you twice in the circle actually tedward but that was back in 2002/2003) and white gas is the only fuel i can use usually because all other fuels are too sooty. Because i rely on silicone grips touch metal heat tape, any soot in particular really screws with me.
I'd love to try some, what's the general cost of the Bio white fuel? im assuming orders from Pharmco direct are the easiest way to get some, but i'd really like to hear from someone with experience with the fuel before ordering. As long as it doesn't produce much black smoke/soot i'd love to try it. -

Re: Fuel for Burn night! (and other stuff)
Wed, September 12, 2007 - 9:53 AMEA is much harder to get, but comparably priced from the right source, stinky, LESS sooty, and works for all the things you'd want white gas for: eating, fleshing, trails, etc. Best source is here:
lafc.org/green_burn.html
But you have to order 25 gallons minimum and they need to be shipped to a business. -

Re: Fuel for Burn night! (and other stuff)
Wed, September 12, 2007 - 10:18 AMhmm id have to try some first before ordering 25 gallons, but if it burned well i'd totally order that much and store it.
Maybe i will make a treck to LA's practices once they start up after Decom, and try some there.
