Okay so after watching these kids today, I have some tips for people who want to do this:
1. Make a simple sign where the words, "Free Hugs" are clearly visible.
2. Stand in an area with lots of traffic and cross traffic where people have to walk by you.
3. Say, "Free Hugs" or something along those lines nice and loud. Our 7 year old suggested
"Free Hugs---guaranteed to give you a smile!"
4. Make a sign that says "Free Hugs" clearly on both sides.
5. Just like any sign holder, watch for people, when you see people approaching
hold your sign so they can see, make eye contact and smile as they come closer.
6. Don't assume you know who will hug and who won't hug.....be open to everyone.
7. Have an answer ready for when people will ask you why you're doing this. Our kids said,
"to make the world a nicer place," "just because we can...," or "to help people reach out to
one another more..." stuff like that. People are still suspicious and were overheard saying
stuff like, "this must be for some high school science project."
8. Bring water and snacks for yourself and maybe a chair in the shade for taking a break.
