Did you know we’re having a parade? Its actually an event that focuses on The King and Queen of the Gathering? I’ve never been to the gathering due to the fact my Husband has a birthday that weekend and I tend to be SOL event wise.

Still needing mascots for this years event

Definition of a mascot.

Think Disney, Think Mickey Mouse....

Think Dogs.....

We have The Gypsy Rose a female White Faced Dog Head Orained with Roses and jewels for this years event. She comes with some gyspy style clothing but if you want to wear your own by all means.

We have Jack, a Green and Blue dreadlocked Red Faced Dog, He comes with gold earring and Flame Headband. (We are working on a Eye patch)

Then we have the Flamboyant Dog Black faced dog who is ordained in Feathers I am told and a Lovely Pirate style hat.

A Mascot would be wearing this attire throughout the event. A mascot would be in the parade as well. You could be famous!

Become a Seadogs Volunteer. Be an actual Seadog! Wanderer of the sea...

If you want to volunteer as this event prop
Im all Puppy ears and eyes for you!

Ok. I have a kickball, properly attired with two skulls and four bones...crossed...I figured a little kickball game...mabey some dodgeball or if enough balls show up,some war ball. I am looking to find more of said balls(the one I have is black,skull&bones,says made in Viet Nam...I would love to find a source for more...anyone know who was vending them at the Portland Pyrate Festival?) I have seen bowling balls in this design,and I have see what they do to feet when kicked, not so pretty...
any clues as to where to find more of these balls ?????

Al-Arwah performing this Thursday

Al-Arwah is a Middle Eastern band that plays for belly dancers. We
perform around the Portland area and the Northwest.

Those of you who were at the demo this last Saturday in Ridgefield got a
preview of what the music is like. Now imagine it with a full Middle
Eastern orchestra!

We have monthly performances at Marino Adriatic Cafe and Mississippi Pizza.

1) Beer
2) Wine
3) Mead
4) Liquers/Cordials
Alls ya need to do is stop by la Luna Loca, taste the Beverages in your category or categories of choice, record your votes on the handy Brewing Contest Judging Sheet (provided by Me, the Hostess of said Brewing Contest), and acquire a warm feeling of confidence and self-worth, knowing you have helped our Brewers, Vintners and Mixers achieve their competitive goals.
Qualifications are:
You must be 21, duh, and if you look younger but really aren't I'll check your ID.
You should know what makes an alcoholic drink actually taste good, not just get you plastered PDQ.
You need the integrity to take this seriously; this is TASTING, and JUDGING, not swilling.
Ribbons will be awarded after the judging; winners to be announced at Court.

Anyone planning on hosting a Brewing Contest this year?

Hello all! Just back from the Gathering (which kicked much ass, even though it was soggy!) and I was kind of disappointed that there was not a Brewing/Mixing contest like last year. I hauled my mead, cider, and melomel all the way down there for nothing *pout*.

Anyway, is there an enterprising ship or crew who would like to host a contest at SeaDogs? I talked to a few other brewers who had also brought things for competition and we were really looking forward to it.

All you really need is three or five people who can be objective and discerning when it comes to alcoholic beverages, and a place that is semi-private for them to do their judging. My ship would host, but we'll also probably be hosting a bardic thingy and it's bad form for a ship to host when a member of their crew will be participating.

Please consider hosting a Brewing/Mixing contest at SeaDogs if you can! You will receive much love, free booze, and it's a great way for people to learn your ship's name.

Lodging and Travel Information (those who are planning to not go by Car)

Unfortunately, there are a limited number of airports in the PacNorWet. I do believe that Portland or Eugene is the closest for flying in which is to say, not all that close. There are several hotels in Lebanon but I would highly recommend reserving a room soon. Your friend flying in from Seattle would still need a ride from one of those cities that is large enough to have an airport or train station. There are AMTRAK stations in Corvalis and Albany which might be a good bet for some people.

This best price for a flight that I can find at this time is $203 from Seattle to Eugene. Your friend might want to consider the train. Amtrak from what I hear does a good job of getting you there. I have not yet had the opportunity to take the train. I wish we had an easy way to set up ride share for people but I don't want to be responsible for that. I want people to take matters into their own hands to get there.

I will start checking Tribe more often. You can also point people to my myspace page and please please give them the seadognights@gmail.com email so that we can speak to these people personally.

Ahoy, all! My son had such a good time at Seadog Nights last year. He pretty much did the boffer thing all weekend long. He is wondering if anyone knows how to contact the vendor, he thinks the name was "lost boys", because he said they were taking a bunch of photos, and if they're available, he'd like to see them. He'd probably be happy seeing any of the boffer photos, though, lol. Does anyone have any info on this for me?

rides needed for pirates

hello,
this is Sparrow from the "treasures od Brigandu" booth asking for a ride for a couple of friends to go to sea dog.
they live in christmas valley OR, so if someone is coming through to seadog from the Idaho side with enough space for a couple and minimal gear, it would be greatly apprecated. They have Gas money. (it`s 300 miles out of the way {one way} for me, which is why I`m not able to provide them with a ride myself.

the reason why they need to go to sea dog: I was thinking of taking a ship to the event, but I can`t captain a ship efficiently and run my booth at the same time....one of those people is my prospective stand in captain....'t would be nice if it worked out.

NEEDED: Mascots for the Parade

Need to recruit 2 to 3 volunteers for the parade at Seadogs
We have 2 parades scheduled and we need 3 local area mascots for the parade. What i mean by this is we have 3 Giant Dog Heads we are converting into Seadogs. (Think Mr Rogers neighborhood puppets but blow them up about 300 times the size of the puppets) Technically they are heads you wear on your shoulders and we will have pirate pants and Tunics to go with them.

If you are interested please contact me.

The parade is scheduled 2 scheduled slots. 10am and 6pm on Saturday.

IF you would like to be a wandering mascot during the event also let me know.

White and Red Headed dogs are available the black headed dog is spoken for.

Oh i didnt mention they will also have Tricorns and pirate boffer weaponry for the parade.

Seadogs Registration is Open. Nows the time ARG!

Registration is open for friends of the event the fee currently is 13, going up to 15 and 18 is the on site registration fee.

So get registrations in early!

Teachers & Performers, you need to register too. Write the Name of Your classes and its scheduled Date/Times on the registrations too.

You wont need to pay a fee if you have confirmed with me you are teaching a class.

Fliers are out too. I think you can get one from the Seadogs Page.

Seadog Nights 2nd Annual Siren's Snare Contest! Bulletin

Captain LeLu De'Dannan of the Firefly Bye and her Pilot, Second in Command, Astro Glide are hosting the 2nd Annual Siren's Snare Contest!

The Greek Mythology Ulysses and the tale of how he had met the Sirens of the sea.... inspired this Sirens Snare Contest. This is to be another way for people to have a great time showing off their charisma, artistic talents, theatrical performance, including singing, fabulous costumes, winning a prize, and a game all in one.

As some of you may remember we had tie winners last Seadogs & their names are:
Mamma G and Imitatia; both of which held their grounds as equals throughout the entirety of the event by working together to trick the Ship Cuthulu. In which they stole their mascott, a giant octopuss, for either a huge randsom or the ship to crash onto the rocky shores. Guess which one the Captain chose, and did he even live to tell the tale?

There are 5 parts to this contest;

The Best Dressed
The Best in Song
The Most Seductive
The Most Trecherous
The Worst Scream

There will be a fabulous prize and an award given to the new 2008 Siren of Seadogs!

We will have 5 female judges:

Gypsy Stage Planning Tribe

I invited some of the performers to this tribe and some oldschoolers of Seadogs to join.

That means heres a invite to you too.

We are probably moving the stage over to the end of the Pier Somewhat near the Orcs Belly. I am told constab camped here last year. The shaded area as per request of the Harbor Master. I went ahead and requested that some of the gypsy merchants be moved towards that area. If you are merchenting and want to be part of gypsy villiage request to be near the Gypsy Stage. Im not partial to where we camp as long as there is electricity and shade. Im as easy going as you can get.

Fighting at Seadogs this Year

The fighting at seadogs this year will include Rapier (as always you do NOT have to have an sca card to fight..just the gear and approval of two marshals)
We are Adding Archery, Regular SCA style Heavy, Siege Weapons, and a Few special Boffer wars and tourneys for all ages
This year we are including in the Heavy Fighting a Japanese style Tournament
There will Also be a BOFFER SIEGE AND PROJECTILE WEAPONS contest with the best weapons to be voted on by the populace at Naughty Court
ALL FIGHTING WILL BE HOSTED BY AND AND MARSHALED by House Hellfire, The Rogues Gallery and the Band of The Black Tigers
Schedules and contact for fighting events will be posted on the seadog nights website

We have a huge resource that needs to be better connected. It's people. :D

There are at least 6 different ways to get in touch with people regarding SeaDog. The best source for information is going to be the web site www.seadognights.com and from there, there is email for everyone. When in doubt about where something should be addressed, you can send it to attn: Rae or Zorgon at seadognights@gmail.com. As we get closer to the event, that email gets checked more and more often. With the move to the new site, we can continue to check mail even once we get to site but if it is something that you need answer on *right now* then you can call Zorgon after 7pm or me during the day. I'm on the east coast so it is unlikely that you would call "too early".

Please don't hesitate to drop us a line to confirm or disprove rumor or to get questions answered.

We are going to be at Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon Oregon this year!

There are so many awesome things happening this year

· The Reigning Dog of the Sea, Captain Deb, will be grand Marshal of the Gypsy Parade which will start at 10:30 am Saturday.

· B.O.O.M. will be back with us with black powder cannons

· There are lots of new games and classes for the powder monkeys and the Scallywags check at the info booth for times and locations.

· From what I hear, the treasure hunt this year is a real bugger but the chest is full and waiting for you to find it.

· Captain Zorgon is bringing back the Battle of the flags

Prizes will be awarded for::

for most flags per encampment

the highest flying flag

the largest flag flying above 12 feet

the most inspired flag (coolest looking).

For Gypsy Stage information, you'll have to talk to Jezebel. :D

Please keep in mind, that even though it looks like it's going to be cooler this year,, the sun will burn just as much at 85 as it does at 105.

Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving and we wish you a Very Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Um, *cough* Ahoy there ye scalawags!

We at SeaDog Nights would like to send out a huge thanks to all of you
who attended this year and want to let you know that we did miss those
of you who were unable to attend. We had a roaring good time with all
of you and are looking forward to next year at the same site. We are
already on the calendar for Cheadle Lake Park for July 24- 28, 2008.
The event site had fewer problems than we anticipated, and those were
frankly quite minor. The new site easily held the almost 1300 people who
attended, and the plans for the future of the site look really good.

We had so much happen! Thank you all for the memories.

The information booth was a huge success! Please remember your fliers
for the info booth for next year. The Gypsy Parade was the biggest
yet! We had so much fun with the King and Queen from The Gathering, and
we are looking forward to seeing your ideas for floats and group entries
this coming year. The flag competition is going to be an annual event
so prepare to hoist the colors!

We are working on things already for next year:
getting showers for public use, and looking for a very large
pavilion for group gatherings (because we can't guarantee that mother
nature will co-operate again next year).

We would like to say a special thank you to some specific groups as
"Naughty Court" was so abruptly brought to a halt with the launching
of a water balloon attack on the autocrat team:

Le Puta Del Diablo provided a large number of man hours for
constable as well as work teams to help with the dock and were
absolutely phenomenal in supporting the event with tools and man power
for running the relay races. A special thanks to Tristan's lovely for
providing her pets.
The Head Hunters helped immensely in moving us from the old site with
strong backs and cool heads. Thank you so much for all that you have
done. These guys jumped with little warning on their day off to help
get the dock to a safe port and then to get it on and off site. We
can't say enough good things about their support and hospitality.
Zorgon and Rae were greeted with smiles and open arms even when their
being there meant hard work and a very long day.
Krystene of Blatha An Oir was a godsend for tending the sick, wounded
and weary. Rae is especially grateful for her support and is looking
forward to seeing the gathering of medics/docs that will gather for
next year. I know that she had a bunch of help from individual ships
docs, again, you guys rock!!

Thank you all for a fantastic event. If you have suggestions or would
like to volunteer, please contact us at seadognights@gmail.com and
leave your mundane as well as period/pirate name and a means to
contact you other than just your email. We will be needing support for
classes as well as the usual. If you can teach a class or would like
to perform at SeaDog, please put that in the header of your email, Rae
would really like to have a schedule of events available for all of
you next year.

Getting the planning done as eary as possible for Gypsy Stage

Last years event was fantastic for Gypsy Stage. We are hoping to be involved with all performances this year including the fire dance. Coordination for this last year was some what confusing on site because we were all in the big "Gyspy Square" which seemed more like a circle.

I am hoping performers, theatrical and lyrical, dancer and storytellers would get involved by sending me a direct message of interest. Last years event went rather splendid by having a stage on site, electricity. I am hoping next year will top as the best so far getting better as the years progress.

An idea was brought up by a longtime Seadogger that perhaps each performance section can be involved in some theatric dirge between sets. Meaning. That if the fire dancers are performing (how many ever groups are available and interested) that there is a ebb and flow kind of thing. Id love to see suggestions posted here. After all its what YOU want is what we need to consider doing to begin with.

So if you want to be a gypsy, diviner, storyteller, actor, theatrical performer, Juggler, youname it stage artist kind of person) please contact me directly.

I also am looking for stage help. For round the clock eventing.

water at Cheadle Lake Park

What a potential Lackey wants to know is - is there actually a lake at Cheadle Lake Park? I have looked at my maps & tried to google but I just can't tell if there is a for-real, wet, water-filled lake at our new site. Seadog Nights is moving out of Marcola!

SeaDog Nights and Gypsy Carnival is moving to a new home.
We are now at Cheadle Lake Park Hwy 20 and Weirich Dr in Lebanon.
Please tell everyone you know and get the word out!

Only the location has changed, the event is still 5 days! Gates will
be open from noon on July 26 through noon on July 30!!

We apologize that the notice is short for the change in location but
it has been a serious fight for the populace. Among other things, the
owner of the site at Marcola wanted to put a quiet time in effect as
well as reduce or remove access to the swimming hole. Without the
ability to whoop and holler or to cool off in the river, the event on
that site would just not be the same. With the unwillingness of the
landlord to compromise on these and other items, we with great regret
are leaving the Marcola site. These and other issues have led us to
the decision that we can not in good faith do business with the site
owner. We assure you we were not going to change sites this year. We
had full intentions of staying at the Marcola site until negotiations
fell apart yesterday. However, we will not let the site owner sabotage
this event for all of us.

This event is not about the location. It's about the people! We are
very much looking forward to seeing all of you again this year. We
have more than enough room for you and your friends. It's going to be
an incredible event!

The pluses for the new site:

1. Reinstatement of black powder cannons
2. Access to shopping, restaurants and hotels
3. Easier to get to

The treasure chest is full, the merchants are sending in their
reservations as well as new and old ships for the dock.
Classes are being prepared for rope tying (thank you Captain Juan),
fire performing, tai chi, sticks (the "stick dance") {thank you Dragon
Steps}, and of course the pirate university for your powder monkeys
(thanks Headmistress of the Junior College of Mid-shipment Cargo
Reallocation Specialties Captain Ann Rackham). The competition for Dog
of the Sea will be stiff again this year. Last year's "Dog of the
Sea", Captain Deb will be Grand Marshall of this year's Gypsy Parade
Saturday which will start at the head of the dock.
Events and classes will be posted at the information booth. Please
feel free to announce your household party, game, event at the
information booth as well with your own flyers.

Please don't forget that pre-reg must be in the mail by July 9th!!

From North or South I-5

lumber mill on your left. Cheadle Lake Park is behind the lumber mill.

We're planning on doing a pig roast at the Gathering event, and if it goes well we might repeat it at Seadogs.

Here's the question...in order to recoup some expenses (pigs ain't cheap!!) would anyone be interested in maybe helping us finish off the beast? I mean, I know my crew eat like hogs but I don't think they can eat a whole hog themselves!

Basically, if we put out a karma/thank you jar and serve all comers, you think we'd get any actual money?

Gypsy Village

Gathering to plan Seadogs for this year was fabulous. Met a bunch of people I didn''t know. Put titles around faces I didn't know. It felt like community partnerships building.

From this I got together with Mauve from the Gypsy Carnival side of the village. I think we are going to combine wits and households to make this years village better than its been before.

We're working on more props for the stage and parade. Banners and harlequin poles.

Theres going to be quite a bit of combined partnerships in stage this year. From being involved with Rapier Memorial for Travis, and activities at Carnival. Plus the various classes and hafla on stage.

So please come by, introduce yourselves become part of the community.

By the way the Rapier events sound awesome this year. And as for games. I wont let the rum bottle out of the hat just yet. Lets just say lots of hooting will be going on.

A Young Pirates Death

Travis DuBois Age 7 A.K.A. trav died friday at 1 am
Trav was one of the greatest inspritations in my life..he struggled all through his life and one of his dreams was to be a Rapier fighter and Pirate
Trav was disabled and has had many medical problems through-out his life.
He Was supposed to come to Sea Dog Nights this year and be the Honorary Asst Marshal In Charge....
I have been Talking with the other staff members of Sea Dogs about Re-Naming the Tourney The Travis Dubois Memorial Sea Dog Tournament

I am willing to "host" information parties at these conventions to "spread" the good word about Seadog Nights.
