hellooo! i am an absolute beginner (never hooped a day in my life) and i've been having a helluva time finding an appropriately-sized hoop (they're all for chilluns!) so i was wondering if one of you lovely humans could point me in the right direction--?
if it's at all possible, i'd prefer to buy local.
thanks!!

ah, you should learn how to make one already! So you can have like a half dozen of them!

I have a few supplies, pm me.

I'd be willing to have a hoop making party if enough people showed interest....

BRad is right, making your own hoop is pretty easy, and despite the fact that you end up having to purchase a lot of up-front supplies and tools, it's still fairly cost-effective as well - especially if you think you'll ever want additional hoops (and who doesn't?).

On the other hand, you say that you've never hooped before, so I can understand wanting to just buy one and give it a shot. Fortunately, you have several local options:

    1. I hear that someone often sells hoops at the Fremont outdoor market on the weekends
    2. The Jessica that posts in this tribe a lot makes and sells hoops
    3. If you're really desperate, I have been known to custom make hoops for folks (Jessica's a better first choice, though)

Good luck - I hope you get one soon so that we can see you at one of the weekly hoop jams!

    Hi there,

I can make you a hoop if you are interested. I have been hooping for over a year now but I just started making hoops a couple of months ago.

I basically will make them for you for slightly above my costs. I could make one for you with the materials that I already have for $10-15 or if you want a specialized/custom hoop, it might cost slightly more. You would not normally be able to buy a hoop for this cheap but I haven't mastered all of the tricks to fancy taping yet, so I am basically charging cost. But you will get a quality hoop for a great price!

I have a ton of hoops in all different weights and sizes, so if you wanted to meet before hand you could try some out and pick out some colors. I live just north of Seattle in Mill Creek. Let me know if you are interested.

    Thanks!

I'll sell you one for $9-14 dollars, so there! lol

No i keeeed... Actually, Hana, actually sounds like she's offering you a good deal. I've sold hoops for twice that much easily. I'd recommend that a new hooper go to one of these hoop/ spin jams and try a few of the peoples hoops that are there. That will help you to get a better feel for what size, weight, color, pattern or even hardness your into.

I personally am not a big fan of hoops that dont have friction tape of some kind on at least the inner side of the hoop.

Some hoops have water in them or sand, that changes the dynamics quite a bit as well...

      See ya 'round, and a'round.....

I also make hoops but mine are more expensive. They generally start around $40* but they are extremely high quality - good tape, good colors, and carefully constructed for maximum durability. With a consultation, I can make a hoop of a size and weight that works best for you.

You can see some examples of my work at pics.livejournal.com/leeeah/tags/hoops/

    * Hand hoops are somewhat cheaper and I offer discounts for buying multiples
