I signed up for Dec. 9th. The seats go fast!!
Christmas Caroling by Kayak - Wednesday, October 26, 2005
December 9th, 10th & 11th 6pm -8pm
Every December, NWOC, with the help of the local houseboating community, organizes carolling tours to benefit the Seattle Children's Home www.seattlechildrenshome.org and the Homestead Community Land Trust www.homesteadclt.org .
We take 30 people per session, usually stopping at houseboat parties, where we spend twenty minutes or so (seated in our kayaks) singing some of everyone's old favorite carols. Don't worry, you don't need to be a good singer, just game! Carollers pay $40 a head for this unique experience, all of which goes to the above charities. NWOC provides kayaks, gear, guides and song sheets, and a chance to belt out your Christmas cheer in front of people you mostly don't know. Call 206-281-9694 to register. Space is limited and goes quickly, so don't delay! See more details here.

Re: This is fun. Check it out
Wed, November 23, 2005 - 10:06 AMLemme remind thee - you arrive at the houseboats - about 25 paddlers all in this big cluser and you sing abunch of carols and then the houseboat people pass out cookies and hot cider. Then you go paddle to some other houseboats and do the same. And paddling at night with a group is Phun as well. I'm tellin ya - its worth the 2 hours and the money you spend is for rent and charity. -

Re: This is fun. Check it out
Wed, November 23, 2005 - 10:24 AMIt looks like the money is going to a good cause. I don't have a kayak so to me it seems like a good deal. Hey Genghis, is winter a good time to kayak? -

I only started this Summer. Really, Dirk knows tons more about it than I do.
Hey Dirk, how hard is it to not go hypothermic at a thing like this? -

That would be my worry. I don't think at night in the winter is the best time for me to learn how to paddle. I'm gonna hold out until springtime, I think.

Re: This is fun. Check it out
Wed, November 23, 2005 - 10:50 AMWell, you arent going to fall into the lake, there are no waves. You are wearing a thingy called a spray skirt so that drips from the paddle won't soak your lap (embarrement). And you just wear a winter coat, gloves (like wool in case of water drops) and a hat. If there is rain, wear a parka. Its just like going caroling, except you paddle. I cram my daughter in the front and I sit in the back and we have a great time.... Also see if NWOC will negotiate the price if it sounds high. They supply everything. All you do is show up dressed as if you were going for a brisk walk.
