Kerry Events Cut as Democrats Criticize Iraq Remark (Update1)

Nov. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts canceled campaign appearances with Democratic congressional candidates after members of his own party criticized his remarks about the Iraq war and U.S. troops that he said were a ``botched joke'' directed at President George W. Bush.

Too bad he didn't deliver the actual joke; it wasn't bad. Now we'll be subjected to an avalanche of attempted recapturing all the ground the GOP has lost through their own avalanche of deception.

Nevertheless, Kerry sure did blow it. Thank goodness he apologized. Something we don't ever seem to hear from the likes of Cheney/Bush.

<<recapturing all the ground the GOP has lost through their own avalanche of deception>>

Are you saying that the GOP engages in deception more than the Dems?

<Are you saying that the GOP engages in deception more than the Dems?>

Well, considering the current administration has been nothing but a pack of lies one after another...

Let's say, Short Term: Yes, Long Term, Over Time: Prolly not.

        But, uh...Let's see...

Nixon lied. Ford didn't, as far as we know. Carter didn't, much to his detriment. Reagan lied, even about remembering. Bush 1 lied. Clinton lied. Bush 2...has he ever uttered the truth?

So, out of the last seven presidents, two didn't lie, or at least weren't caught in a lie. Further breakdown:

Rep. Pres - 4 out of 5 lied.
Dem. Pres - 1 out of 2 lied.

So, since the 1968, you stand an 80% chance of having your president lie if he's a republican. Whereas, if the president is a democrat, it's more of a 50-50 shot.

Now, let's look at the magnitude of the lies involved here....

        god, I love being unscientific.

Include Lyndon "Tonkin Gulf" Johnson and JFK and this unscientif poll appears approximately identical. Further, I imagine it's probably pretty easy to find dishonesty in Carter and Ford's utterances.

And the body count in Vietnam compared to Iraq?

Well.. Lets not forget Lincoln and the suspension of Habeas Corpus!

Why not stick to current dishonesty? Its far more relevant to us NOW and the GOP is working very hard to corner the market on sleeze and doing a great job with it.

With Republican candidates distancing themselves in DROVES from the leader of their party, it would seem there really isn't much of an argument. One simply CANNOT read a weeks worth of headlines in the past several months to a year, without encountering another Republican scandal. eg,: FDA: Conflict of interest, Lobbyists buying favors, Congressmen indicted & resigning (multiples), Candidates being disavowed by their National & State organizations.

Here's a recent one from Florida. The candidate is a Republican who voted to impeach Clinton, yet he is linking himself to Bill's popularity and calling himself an 'independent". Deceptive? At a minimum. Dishonest? The guy NEVER identifies himself as a Republican. I wonder why? www.clayshaw.com/index=videos.htm

Sure! Let's compare the 14 year conflict with the current 4 year one...let's even look at the Vietnam numbers at the four year mark. While we're at it, let's look at the amount of "collateral damage" between the two wars.

Let's also compare Watergate v. Whitewater, Iran/Contra v. Lewinski, Panama v. Billy Beer...

              www.icasualties.org/oif/

US service personnel killed in 14 years of the vietnam war: ~58,184
              4 iraq : ~2,836

In other words, all this crap about "another vietnam" is just that...crap.

                okay...now, about that collateral damage...

kinda hard to compare the two, barring the US being stupid enough to pursue this madness for 14 years (I wouldn't put it past us, though). Who's to say what the numbers would look like after that length (especially considering the jump in numbers over the last couple of months.

As it is, these numbers are a bit lopsided, considering the length of one over the other.

Ya wanna know what's crap? Our being there to begin with.

Still got no proof we belong there, buddy boy. No proof of anything positive coming of it, either. No proof as to why we should be housing and thereby torturing the fuck out of so many detainees.

Then again, it's not like any of that stuff mattered to the folks in charge to begin with.
