I suspect that they had people driving long distance for the Thanksgiving Holiday, with folks in the vehicles voting repeatedly with wireless internet devices like iPhones or Blackberries. It is possible to vote more often than once-every-two-hours with such devices, especially when switching between cell towers that have different IPs. That would explain how they suddenly started to get votes at a dramatically-higher, but steady, rate for most of the day. Once they got where they were going, the voting subsided, because you can't vote repeatedly like that in one place.
