Hi all-
My senior cat, Angelo is 13 years old and weighs 20+ pounds. He has taken to pooping in the basement outside of his litter box. It is disgusting. I have two other cats and they've known each other for years and I don't know what the problem is. It started a few months ago and I thought it would just stop.
I know it is Angelo that's pooping, it's not hard to spot a 20lb cat's poo.
I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions?............He's an indoor cat and i'm considering letting him outside.

Re: what to do, what to do
Tue, August 14, 2007 - 8:17 PMHave you recently changed your brand of litter? Sometimes cats will announce their dislike of the new litter by not using it. -

Re: what to do, what to do
Tue, August 14, 2007 - 11:11 PMPLEASE don't let him outside! You've done him a big favor by keeping him indoors thus far--don't let him down now. Try to find and eliminate stresses that could be triggering this behavior. You might want to add extra litter boxes, observe the interactions between cats to see if anyone's started targeting him when he's trying to use the box, have him checked by your vet for physical illness that could cause bowel discomfort. -

Fri, August 17, 2007 - 12:01 AMis he just "missing" the box???? my elderly kitties have been off with their aim lately...standing on the edge of the box....and occasionally peeing & pooping over the edge...not sure what's up...just think they may be getting discombobulated...(like old folks)....or maybe they just don't give a sh*t anymore...like many old folks as well...either way, it's not intentional....i put down paper around the boxes & clean alot.....i suppose this is like "depends" time for kitties?!
Meow & good luck -

Re: what to do, what to do
Fri, August 17, 2007 - 9:46 AMthanks everyone for the advice.
They don't have new litter and i've decided to not let him outside. : )
He's definitely not just missing the box...the poo is found pretty far away from the box in the basement. I think that i need to reclaim the basement space. my hubby and I haven't used it like we used to.
thanks again. -

Re: what to do, what to do
Sat, August 25, 2007 - 8:46 AMI had two cats who had always lived together, shared food and water bowls and a litter box, but after 12 years, they were no longer willing to do so. I even had to put a devider between them because they didn't want to see eachother's litter boxes. Of course Emma would fuck with Lilith by using her litter box and then I'd have to clean out all the litter before Lilith would use it again. I just repeat the mantra - I don't have to send them to college, they're cheaper than children and great most of the time. -
