Hi all...
I posted this topic in another cat tribe, but I thought since my sweetheart falls into the "senior" category, this might be a more appropriate place to post:
My 16 1/2 year old has a heart murmur...well, she's had it all along, but the vet said it was more pronounced during her last visit a couple of weeks ago. She recommends we do an EKG on her. I'm not entirely sure what this $300+ test will actually reveal. If its bad...then what? what are the possible treatments? I'm certainly not going to put my aged beauty through any type of surgery. But if its medication, then fine...she's already on meds for hyperthyroid.
Anyone have any experience with this? I'd welcome your advice. Thanks!

Re: Heart Murmur Question
Mon, November 12, 2007 - 10:00 AMMy Zen (10 years) has had a heart murmur his entire life. Last time we brought him to the vet she said the same thing (not our regular vet). Of course she also recommended Further Testing (an ultrasound). Our Usual vet (also a good friend and former house-mate) always makes the recommendation: "If you would _like_ to get him an ultrasound, you could. But, unless you notice any changes in him, you really don't _need_ to."
Basically, it is a ploy to make more money. My husband has worked in the Vet industry for years. This is what he says. It is always about the $$$$$!!!
