In 1992, Jessica Neuwirth founded Equality Now along with Navanethem Pillay and Feryal Gharahi, to address the gender disparity in the human rights movement, which had grown to dismiss violations as “cultural” or “private”. Issues such as domestic violence, rape, female genital mutilation, trafficking, and reproductive rights were not part of the agendas of established human rights organizations.
If you're thinking of giving to charity, consider this one.

Re: So um it's been a while.....I just found a great charity and thought I'd share.
Fri, June 1, 2007 - 10:46 PMEquality Now rocks. I'm actually going to a fundraiser for them in SF, on June 23. Check thier site and see if there is one near you. It is SUCH a worthy cause. If it helps, for any Geeks hiding in here, it's Joss Whedon's fave charity, too <g>. Not that this *should* make a difference, but I just wanna work every angle that I can to help these awesome poeple out : ). -

Re: So um it's been a while.....I just found a great charity and thought I'd share.
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 5:32 AMSilly English women <shakes head>. Sheesh. :-p
Joss is the guy who created Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity, and other tres geeky TV programmes, films, and comics. He also seems to be a really nice, caring guy, who believes that (and writes) women are just as strong and capable as men, which I think is cool : ).
You can come over and watch Buffy here any time you want, Caz <g>. -

Re: So um it's been a while.....I just found a great charity and thought I'd share.
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 5:36 AMWell he sounds lovely and the creator of Buffy and Angel surely must be a great guy!
And .. Grrr, are you flirting with me? I think I love it!! -
-
Re: So um it's been a while.....I just found a great charity and thought I'd share.
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 5:52 AMHe *does* seem like a great guy. It was through Firefly fans that I found out about Equality Now at all, and Joss has written some very moving essays/blog posts about the things that they are fighting against on the web site www.whedonesque.com.
And OMG, Caz! What kind of girl do you take me for? I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you. -

Re: So um it's been a while.....I just found a great charity and thought I'd share.
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 12:29 PMOh Caz... I'd beware of Grrr. She's a sly one and loves to ensnare unwitting victims -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Does she have a van and a big net like the child catcher? I do!
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 1:13 PMJust so long as it isn't down by the river. ;P
I'll vouch for Grrr. She is a worthy capture-er....er sumpin'... -

Re: Does she have a van and a big net like the child catcher? I do!
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 1:26 PMThanks, PaulaC. I love my BFF : ).
Anyhow, all of my victims are *incredibly* witting...they wouldn't be worth capture, otherwise!
But I egregiously threadjack from this important cause with my incessant flirting. Shame on me. Someone should come and put me in my place at once......or try ;-P.

Re: Does she have a van and a big net like the child catcher? I do!
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 1:27 PMI've dragged nearly every tribe I'm in down to my level, in a day! How promising! -
-
Re: Does she have a van and a big net like the child catcher? I do!
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 1:36 PMYou were *meant* for Tribe, Caz! I hope you'll continue to wreak....er...I mean *work* your magic. It took me a few *months* to make significant changes in most of my tribes. 'Course, since they were Tribes like Bad Advice on Any Subject, or Creepy Dead Things, there wasn't a lot that needed to be done ; ).
I still plan to give to Equality Now, though! I've already purchased our tix for the fundraiser, PaulaC : ). -

Sat, June 2, 2007 - 1:41 PMWell I've already destroyed Sarah's "Sanctuary" and I'm working hard on a few others. Shall we say by Monday?
Equality Now looks fantastic.
People who have read this thread: We're here for your entertainment but until you give money to Equality Now we're not going to say anything else. If they get $1000 I'll put my boobie picture back up! -
-
Re: Does she have a van and a big net like the child catcher? I do!
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 2:03 PMThe Browncoats are on it, Caz. More than $1,000 will be raised.
You can put up that boobie pic now. -

Sat, June 2, 2007 - 2:47 PMGood GOD you two! Girl goes for a bath and comes back to all this bickering! I'm ashamed, ashamed!
Should I have put a higher price on my boobies? -
-
Re: What!?!?!?
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 2:57 PMOh, no bickering on my part. I'm just all for the public showing of other people's boobies. :)
Grrr and I have a history of viewing boobies together, I personally find it very much a feminist but not hating men kinda thing to do. :P
Isn't that the name of this tribe?
You can put a higher price on yours to be sure, but be sure to tack on the proviso that Grrr has to show hers, they're a sight to behold. :) -

Re: What!?!?!?
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 3:09 PMQuite right, they should be shown with pride. Unless you're visiting a German nudist beach in which case they should really be covered up! -
-
Re: What!?!?!?
Fri, June 8, 2007 - 1:40 PMYay, people are actually using the forum again! I'm so excited!

Fri, June 8, 2007 - 2:59 PMGuess, I love that picture. I first saw it about seven years ago when my friend was having a lot of personal problems, it was about eleven at night and I printed it out and drove round to her house to show her! She loved it, we're weird. -
-
Re: What!?!?!?
Fri, June 8, 2007 - 4:30 PMThanks! I love it too. It sums up so many conversations I've had on Tribe...
