On MIND BOMBIN

I called the album "Mind Bombin" not because im blowin people minds. Its is an ode to my youth growing up on the streets of the UK as a Graffiti deviant and yet it reflects the shifts in my socio/spiritual political outlook as i made my way out of the streets to the west coast of America.

BOMBIN; A QUICK CRASH COURSE IN DEVIANCY.

"Bombin" is a term used to describe going out and painting illegaly on a wall, train or some other form of private property. Bombin is a kind of fugitive act, claiming your personal presence amongst a landscape dominated by control and ownership. My crew and i known locally as T.C.K. (The Creative Kings) would go out on early morning Bombin raids to paint our newly created artwork on some pristine wall. The rush and feeling of accomplishment was addictive (as was dodging police), pushing the boundaries and refusing to live under the rule of law. The word would spread and before too long other Graffiti artists would come and check your work, creating both notoriety and respect. I was amongst an underground network of renowned artists that included the likes of Goldie (the now Drum & Bass icon), Madtempa (TRS) and Desire (TWC) to name a few.
In hindsight being engaged in this form of subversive activity gave me chance to look at and challenge the way our actions are governed and controlled. Most of us tend to simply accept these laws, unconsciously being given our prompts in life from a governing agent. Without challenging and in some cases breaking these laws we have no chance of discovering our own parameters as human beings and the full extent of our power. Our city streets, for example, the space some of us choose to inhabit, do not belong to us but those who govern us. We are in fact alienated from our own surroundings and our connection to time, place and earth. Individuality and personal presence are kept to a minimum in favour of efficiency and speed. The act of "Bombin" reclaims your space within the city and turns that which alienates and subjugates you into your freedom and your platform for expression.

MIND; DO YOU OWN YOURS?

Last year i went to hear a talk given by Chuck D, Public Enemys front man at Standford University. It was all great but one thing he said stood out to me.....

"Mind is the new Real estate of the 21st Century".

That stopped me dead in my tracks. Our attention is constantly being pulled at and fought for. Even if it for a split second if they have your attention they have you. Corporations and companies are constantly looking to set up shop in our minds with extensive media campaigns that play with subtle and not so subtle subconscious drives. In the same way that our physical space is controlled so too is our psychic space. In this type of environment i believe it is more important than ever to create autonomy over our own minds. The Mind is the last bastion of individual freedom, physical space being subjugated to the rule of law. But the more we let these influences into our minds and shape our behavior the more we surrender our sovereignty over ourselves.

This album for me is no different from those early morning bombin raids but instead of a pristine wall the territory instead is that of "Mass Mind", our collective psychic body, a landscape which is becoming more and more controlled by big business and less about the individual. Its definitely not about "blowin peoples minds" (i mean, please, im not that cheesy) but if it does that for you.....wicked. Its about the individual fugitive act of reclaiming personal power in the face of forces which do not want you to discover the fullest extent of your power, but to tap into it, siphon it off and redirect it. The mind when focused, empty (you try emptying your mind) and calm has no limits. You can do anything, make anything happen....truly......

.....but how deep does the rabbit hole go?

Freek Factory presents:

OPEN SEDITION:
A night of exquisite tumult and digital insurrection.

http://www.freekfactory.com

Friday, Nov. 17th
@ Element (http://www.elementny.com)
225 E. Houston St. at Essex St./Ave. A
10pm-4am

Freek Factory is once again proud to bring you the very best in digital culture. On this night we rattle speakers and shake the earth in defiant celebration. Raise your fist as a full scale freek riot is properly unleashed.

DJ C vs. Zulu
(mashit) (zulumusic)
Lion-S (the pride)

Founder of Mashit Records and ragga maniac DJ C links up with Dancehall's whitelabel menace, Zulu, to spread their fiercely
eclectic gospel of crunkment, mashstep, regga-bounce, and grime-hall. Revolutionary ass-shaking bizzness.

http://www.myspace.com/zulumusic
http://www.myspace.com/djc

Lion-S, Queen of the Pride, makes her low-frequency NYC debut. Bringing the tribes together from coast to coast.

http://www.shambhalamusicfestival.com

The Freek Crew:

Haj, Blacklight
JPoo1, Dhruva
Spiro, Sunder
Mikio

Coming correct with a plethora of new tracks off the forthcoming album "Freek Factory v.1: The Balance", due out in Feb. '07, the crew mixes it up with a combination of live instrumentation and DJ'ed sets. The Factory like you have never heard it before. Don't sleep.

I Have a Dream...And Your Part of It.

Hello Dear loved ones,

Please take a moment so that I may share an important message.

Over the years I have been working with Photography and Painting as my way of expressing and exploring vision, dreams, other realities, anchient influences, futuristic possiblities, metaphysical realms, pop culture, and underground art movements.
As long as I can remember, I have been drawn to these realities and deeply called to channel the beauty that these places hold. I work with the people and help to reflect the light. To inspire and explain where we come from.

I have been blessed to do something in this life that I am in love with....Art...expression...passion.
It has introduced me to a world of amazing beings everyday. From Musicians, dancers, painters, fashion designers, freaks, families, tribes.....people who are living thier dreams. That is what life is about.

I feel strongly that you are part of me and what I do...how I see the world, how I am inspired.
I want to invite you to journey with me in a dream I have.....

I am going to publish a book. Not just any book...a magic book filled with as many photos and as many stories as I can fill.
This book will be a collaboration between myself and the community around me. Let's show the world our stories.
I am inviting you and the imagery we have already made or are about to create....to see if you are interested in this vision, and if so I am asking you to contribute a part of you that you feel inspired to express.

I would love for you to write (based off of the image we have created together)
Any of the following:
-A story ( This can be fiction or non-fiction)
-A poem
-A Dream
Or really what you feel inspired to put next to your picture.

I cherish each of my expiriences with you and I feel that they all deserve to be properly presented and shared.
This is my dream....help me bring it to life!

Please respond with your desire to participate, and or thoughts, ideas...advice. I am looking for publishers and such, so any guidance would be great.

I am starting to put this together now, so the sooner the better...e-mail me with your words @ sequoiaemmanuelle@gmail.com
and visit www.sequoiaemmanuelle.com for the vision.

Thank you so much, I look forward to hearing from you all.

Blessed,
Sequoia

Listening to the calling..
Feeling the depths of your soul, following that voice
Giving up everything you knew, stepping in uncommon grounds
Expiriencing lucid dreaming throughout the days
Emotions flying in and out of concious control
Letting go of the self, surrenduring to the mystery unknown
Trusting the chosen path
Being in the flow of love
Remembering to love thyself no matter what
Being present
Letting the music move your soul
Knowing that there are no mistakes
Support surrounds us
Love is everywhere
Trusting yourself always
Being patient
Be creative at all times. Follow your heart.
Follow your art.

Question for Sequoia

So, these new Sepia shots are out of this world, and I'm wondering if you will include them in your web site. I looked at your web site and it was lovely in all it's brightness and color!

I was surprised to NOT see other picutres I've seen on tribe that you've done which are a bit darker and spritual...the ones that blow me away.

Is there a reason that you haven't included these? Did I not check out your site fully, and missed them?

Do you feel that the "market" couldn't handle the deeply sensual and and somewhat macabre images that we get to see on tribe. (I'm thoroughly grateful too, that you DO post them here, by the way..)

just curious..

"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."

I came home last night and as I was getting into bed, Wayne Dyer was on channel 13, speaking about his new book "The power of intention".
His speach was so powerfully inspiring, he said many things that hit me at the perfect time, and especially the quote up above. I wanted to share that thought. It was a reminder to me that it's our choice, the way we view our lives, and the world. It is what we make it. If we don't like something, we can always change it.

Yep, going back to the magic land! For New Years!
What better way to start the New Year! I miss the left coast and the beautiful creators out there. It's always a rejuvinating expirience to be a part of.
I'll be out there maybe a week or more. If anyone is interested in a photoshoot, let me know!
Much love,
Sequoia

"It's A Bright Future"

A birth has been born. I have a new series coming out titled, "It's A Bright Future".
Inspired by visions of the future I see that we are working towards. We as people are growing at a rapid pace, working on ourselves internally and externally. The psychic energy is high, and many of us feel an urgency in our souls to take action. Whether it may be in a creativly, politicaly, and spiritualy, we are being called to find our highest truth and follow our hearts into the next phase of our conciousness.
I am touched deeply by the people around me, people close, and people all over the world that inspire me and open my eyes to growth.
Photographing...seeing into each individual and listening to thier spirit speak, beyond words. I represent that visually, and then show them thier mirror. That is the biggest gift that I have in this lifetime, and I am honored to attain such a gift.
To you all I share, and hope you enjoy as much as I do. I have a lot of love and plenty to share.
Stay tuned....I am working on a big exhibit to display many of these new visions. I will not be posting everything, because it's a surprize!
It will be a few monthes in the making, but I will keep you all informed.
Peace,
Sequoia Emmanuelle
