The Sew-Op is a collaboration opportunity: a chance to get together to learn, teach and create beautiful, artistic clothing that suits your dreams with other people doing the same.

In physical space, the Sew-Op is a workshop: machines, tables, sharp scissors, chalk, bales of fabric and reels of thread. All that is functional and beautiful is there.

This part of the work is ready to be used! The workshop exists: Koko and the crew have built the workshop and are making clothes there now!

Community sewing parties are planned and upcoming, where people will get together in the workshop and make worlds of imagination out of cotton, polyester and fake fur.

But this is not the Sew-Op. The Sew-Op is a foundry, a furnace of creativity. My understanding is that it works like this:

* The more wonderful your teachers, the more you will enjoy learning and the more completely you’ll bring your talents into the world with ease and grace and joy.

* You can’t learn without doing, and you can’t do without tools.

* If you put experienced creators and beginners together in a room, with those tools, working on projects, helping and inspiring each other, magic happens.

* That magic is clothes.

* That magic is learning.

* That magic is community.

Right now, the Sew Op is the Sewing Opportunity. It’s a way of learning how to make clothes and other things. But it’s the first of many workshops teaching different skills that will spin off this energy, a fun, liberating way of learning to do.

This is just how I see the Sew Op. Koko’s has his own way of describing this dream he’s realizing for us all down here, and I’ll hope to have his words here later today to fill in the big picture!
