Do the "Festive Times" make you Smile :-) or :-(

I don't celebrate Christmas anymore.

But I smile when I remember my childhood moments around that time of the year.

Always makes me smile:).... Festivities tend to bring people together and also all of a sudden a lot of people have hearts. Even people on my bus this month are happy and smiling and trust me on London busses you are lucky if you get an apology for someone stumping on your foot while on your way to work...I got two sorries and a smile on the way to work this morning......Still in shock. :)

What makes me smile is that after much turmoil and soul searching on this subject I have come to peace with it. I did the whole gift/santa thing as a child and it's all very exciting until it's over, and then you just feel this pervasive emptiness. I've gone the opposite route and done nothing...and that's just lonely. I know that there is meaining in this time in every tradition as the light is born in the darkest time. I stay out of the mall chaos and find warmth and solace in the gathering together of beloved friends and family, sharing a meal....when ever anyone asks me that odd question "are you ready for Christmas?" I just smile.

Ok, I got an invitation to join this tribe this morning, well what the heck! Regarding the festive times, I love any chance to be festive whether it be a birthday or Halloween or the holidays. I think that if we look beyond commercialism we can make the holidays what we want.
We usually have a big get together on our property. During the winter we all need an excuse to be festive.

Also something we can look forward to is Solstice, Friday December 21st 10:08pm in Washington State. May be early morning on the 22nd in other places. After that the days will start to get longer again. Than we can do Hanukkah, than Christmas, than New Years than Chinese new year. Whew I can hardly keep up with all the ways to celebrate life. Are there any I left out?

I hope this is a fun positive tribe,
        Peace to all.

This year x-mas is a litte so-so for me. I had a somewhat rough year. Can't believe the year is almost gone.

What makes me smile during the holidays, i loooooooovvvvvvveeeeee halloween. Halloween is my festive time in which I grab a set of fangs and smile at a potenial victim;)

Just kidding. Anything dealing with bellydance or dancing in general.

Christmas is always hard for me. My father died on Christmas night when I was 17. Though that was 13 years ago, some days it's like it was yesterday. It's hard to see everyone else so happy and excited and not be able to get into the same spirit.

On the brighter side, I had an amazing father for 17 years and plenty of memories that make me smile. :-)
