Do any of you suffer from SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder?
I think I have it for the first time in my life.
Has anyone bought the light boxes and do they work?

Mon, January 29, 2007 - 1:40 PMAny effects I have are relatively mild and have mostly been alleviated by moving to california.
Folks I know do find UV to help, as do sun tanning booths. How much they help seems to depend a lot on the timing and type of lamp. -

Mon, January 29, 2007 - 6:13 PMI always have and thank God we are coming out of SAD season in California. Every winter I think I am going to go completely insane. After 43 years of this, I have not found any method that alleviates it.
I can hardly wait to be i the sunshine again. -

<< Do any of you suffer from SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder? >>
No, in fact I'm just the opposite of folks who suffer from SAD. I really love the short days and long nights of autumn and winter... it really makes me come alive.
When spring rolls around, I begin to dread the lengthening days ahead, and start planning for my hibernation. For me, long sunny days and Daylight Savings Time is nothing at all to celebrate. To bring up my spirits, I focus on the fact that this too shall pass, as I eagerly begin to anticipate the autumn season once again.
Just give me lots of dark, rain, and storms, and I'm a happy camper. :)

Wed, January 31, 2007 - 2:28 PMCharmaine, I have always been like you, I would get happy in Autumn, it has always been my favorite season. I love cold weather and I have hot weather. I grew up in Miami and hate hot weather.
I get depressed in spring when it starts getting warmer.
That's why this is so odd for this to happen to me this year. -

Re: S.A.D.
Thu, February 1, 2007 - 5:07 PMI don't know that it's SAD.
A very large percentage of usually cheerful people I know in my daily life or through Tribe seem to be uncharacteristically depressed lately.
The clinically depressed people I know are practically catatonic.
Something is going on, but I have no idea what. -

Re: S.A.D.
Thu, February 1, 2007 - 9:44 PMYes, I have been practically catatonic. It has been hard to do anything. I just want to veg out.
It's hard to get motivated to do anything. I am not usually like this.
I am having trouble sleeping, I have gained weight. I don't feel particularly depressed, just very low energy. -

Re: S.A.D.
Fri, February 2, 2007 - 9:32 PMI haven't found that the light box helps much, but it's better than nothing. The experts say tanning booths/beds are the wrong frequency to help, but I find that they do -- maybe it's just spending 20 minutes lying down quietly in a warm place. Getting outdoors, even if the weather is cloudy, is also helpful (don't wear glasses or sunglasses).
Mostly, I just keep watching for the days to get a teeny bit longer, and sooner or later they do. -

Re: S.A.D.
Sat, February 3, 2007 - 5:40 PMMy fibro seem to kick up more in winter - I am so slow, like my blood is too thick or something - I can't get warm, and I am tired and hurt everywhere. It has never been this bad before - is Mercury in retrograde or something? Glad to know I'm not alone! Blessings, Star
BTW, thanks for letting me post, and for the support -still looking for friends too *shameless plug*
