The Space

Hello,
New here! I've recently taken a hiatus from teaching for personal reasons mostly, but also because I have students who complain about the costs of yoga classes. I teach at a community center and at my job (no charge for my coworkers) I mean there are so many studios in this city alone, no matter where you live there's one around the corner. So accessibility isn't the issue, obviously, but costs, costs, costs!
anyway, I was just curious how one obtains space to offer donation yoga? I know you can rent the space, but does it get expensive? Just curious. I would like to do more donation-based teaching and start going to more donation-based classes myself.

Glad to be here!
thanks,
-Liz

I'm glad to have found this tribe. I completed my teacher training with Dharma Mitra in New York last summer, and am looking to teach some donation based classes. If anyone is looking for teachers or knows of space where yoga teachers can hold classes that would be cool!,

    Namaste,
    Julia (Madhurima)

anybody thought about volunteering in the schools?

maybe trying to work some kind of after school program where the kids take it for free and you can ask for donation from drop ins?

there is an awesome organization www.sfsv.org/ that i just joined so that i can contribute to the youth in my community.

Right now i feel like we need to start taking care of the kids in this city. There is no funding for art or phys ed in the schools and we can do something about this.

      any thoughts?

otherwise studio space goes for around $20 an hour and all the prime times are usually taken. You can try asking at clubs or churches for their space, community centres as well

Cool organization! I would like to do something like that when I'm not so busy. I definitely agree with on the need for the arts and phys ed programs for kids. It's really sad because how else are they going to develop those minds of theirs. At least they have something fun to look forward to, instead of homework everyday.
I teach at a community center now and I was thinking of having a donation yoga class. then again, with me it's time.
        Freakin' time!
