Hey fellow SFV Burners! I hope some of you get to read this before the weekend.

Some of my camp-mates (Dr. Carl's Dept. of Collections) are participating in the American Cancer Society's 'RELAY FOR LIFE' this weekend. It's a 24 hour relay that helps raise funds for cancer research.

We've started a team called "LA BURNERS" and would like to invite the entire burner community to come PARTICIPATE.

In brief... this weekend 9/27-9/28/2008, we've formed a core group of people to walk for 24 hours, but would love to get some help walking and participating in the days events. There are many booths, carnival games, entertainment, and events planned to keep us occupied as we walk. My camp is also raffling off gift cards as our cancer fund raiser.

Please check out the following website for more details on the event.
www.events.cancer.org/RFLGlendaleCA

Register a team if you like, but just come to hang out for a bit and look for my team. it would be great to not have to walk all 24 hours of it! we're setting up a small 'camp'... maybe our dome. It'll almost be just like home. Please feel free to contact me for any additional details or questions that the site may not answer.

hope to see some of you there!

BM Art Project: Pantheogenesis Temple needs help in SFV

Hi All!

Our group is currently building a beautiful temple complex mapping states of consciousness and healing called the Pantheogenesis Temple (www.pantheogenesis.com).

We've run into a little snag in one of the art pieces for the temple. It's a two-seated throne for individuals to embody holding the divine feminine and divine masculine.

We have a small group of people down in LA including a former hollywood set designer (whose primary project is bulding a mirrored jeweled lotus, but has recently taken on this second project when the original artist fell through.) He's an amazing guy..but could really use the help of the local burner community.

He is working full time on burning man so any hours you are available he can probably use the help! There is both skilled work and easy non-skilled work to do..and he would even be happy just to have people around to be inspiration and motivation!

The Current needs are:

Throne:

Anyone willing to donate wood.
A place to build in the LA area!
non-skilledhelper bees!
a group of visionary or artsy painters (Kim is primarily a wood and glass worker)
anyone with experience wood working

Lotus:
The design is all done and the base being built this week. We could still use help in cutting a bunch of salvaged miror into 1' by 1' squares and doing mosiac tiling on the 3D lotus structure.

Thanks a bunch for reading this and I am crossing my fingers and hoping the burning man community can help us out.

My email is sororomystica at gmail

I'm looking to trade my fire staff for a lighter weight one.
My staff was lovingly made by Chains and I paid $60 for it.
I love it, but it is too heavy for me.
It has large wicks, is a standard length, has rubber-type grip tape and a glow-in-the-dark center marker between the grip tape.
It would be a perfect staff for a man with strong arms, but not for little ol' girlie me.

If you are interested, please PM me.

Burning Man Set on Fire Early, Either by Arson or Accident :(

SOURCE: Laughing Squid

"At around 3 am this morning at Burning Man during a rare lunar eclipse, the Burning Man sculpture was set on fire prematurely (it is normally burned on Saturday). Burning Man workers were able to put out the fire and salvage the sculpture (it has not yet been loaded with fuel or explosives) and it is still scheduled for its normal burn on Saturday.

The early burn is being investigated as arson (there are reports a man armed with a propane torch starting the fire). According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, authorities have already arrested one person. Another source says that the man was set ablaze early due to an electrical problem when they turned the neon early for the lunar eclipse. Burning Man organizers hope to have more information later today."

fantastic burner store located in SFV

I’m told I have a burner spirit but never followed up much with it until recently. To make a long story short my boyfriend’s house is playing host to a burner family with a fantastic temporary store set up. I’ve seen a few Burner e-businesses and vendor booths but this is definitely the best I’ve seen. The owner let me barrow her glow fur boots for Bat Days and everywhere I went I was handing out her business cards. The shop is amazing and has a couple of items that can’t be bought anywhere (that I know of) in America. I’m a researcher and tried to find a couple of items she carries and couldn’t find it.

Just some of the items they have:

Body glow paint / hair paint
Really cool fur outfits and accessories
Hair extensions and falls – different from the ones you normally see and really soft.
The light up and blinking wires people use to put in their clothing
LED toys galore!
Poi toys
Drivable ice chests – gotta see it to believe it
The newest thing I saw last night was the coolest – spokes (for lack of a better word) that are placed in your bicycle and when the wheels turn they create LED patterns and I believe even words.

I know I’m probably missing some cool items to list but those are the ones that got my attention. The shop is located in Encino (next to Sherman Oaks) and she is seeing people by appointment i.e. they don’t want to list the address online for people to come by at 2 in the morning.

The website: http://www.livewireneon.com/
Contact Number: (818) 521 - 8250
Let her know Sierra Night Tide sent you - no I don't get a commission :P I’m doing this as a favor.

From what I've seen.. whapping yourself in the head is NOT one of the skilled moves that Poi dancers use often. After having mastered it myself, I now understand why it's such a rarely seen move. I would like to learn a new poi move.. this one has already gotten old. And my head hurts. I need those with more skills to help me out here...

Crafty Cupcake Collaborators - a new camp for 07'?

Hi Fellow Burners!

You're getting this message because i'm thinking about starting a camp for the playa this year. As far as the camp supplies go, i already have a potential participant who says she has TWO domes & kitchen supplies, etc.. for about 50 people. This takes a big load as far as camp fees/fundraising goes.

My general ideas for the camp go something like this:

-cupcakes! perhaps an afternoon or three of giving out prebaked? cupcakes/coconuts?/kisses
-coconuts (if it is possible to transport them)
-kisses (in trade for coconuts or cupcakes? this one i'm perkolating because i'm not sure if it would deter campmates or create fun)
-craftyness hours (mainly knitting, possibly. The other woman who is interested in helping me create the camp is an amazing knitter!!!)

I'm looking for any suggestions/ideas/thoughts & potential campers!!!

Before i submit something to BMORG, i'd need to have a certain amount of camp members on board. I think we'd probably cap out at 30 or 40, and i'm looking for low-drama, amazing, helpful, resourceful people. I'm not someone who is huge on toil, but i often take on TOO much during a project, so i'd want campers who would pitch in & help out for setup, tear-down & actually be committed to helping out so during the week we could all have fun! I'd prefer to be lower to no toil after we finish things...

Please let me know if you are interested ASAP, or let me know if you have a friend who is interested, who could donate supplies, etc.. The deadline this year for camp registration is May 31st! So i have a little less than a month to submit!

EVERYTHING is appreciated! If i start to see interest, i will create a tribe soon & plan an initial meeting.

love, cupcakes & kisses,
♥!♥!♥!♥!

Singularity? A SFV unofficial theme camp?

I have my ticket and it's my birthday weekend, so I plan on being moderately naughty. I might be meeting up with a couple of friends, but.... why not have the SFV represented as a unoffical theme camp?

So, maybe we can all camp together since it seems so darned hard for us to get our act together and get more than ten of us together in town. It's at least a way we can start to build a community off-line....

What do YOU think?

"Science of Mind"... (Same teaching as "Agape" in Culver City)

Any fellow Burners go to any "Science of Mind" churches in the Valley...

I'm thinking about getting a group to go and possibly hang... get some beverage... go to a park and play... afterward?

Maybe even getting this to happen on a regular basis...

Love and Even More Love,
Samwise

Belly Dance -- Recommendations?

I've finally got funding available to potentially pursue taking neat classes, like belly dancing. So i thought i'd ask for belly dancing recommendations!

I'm looking for something affordable, preferably closer to the valley. I'm willing to go to the westside, though & i'm looking for classes, not private instruction. & any other neat classes you'd like to recommend? I'd love to hear them!

Thank you for any leads!

♥♥♥

SFV Burner's Bike Club!!! (SFV-BBC)

Sounds like the BBC is a GO!!!

So... As this gets created... What we have to determine is...

Schedule...
Weekly?
Bi-Weekly?

Any less than that seems to defeat the health aspect BUT we could also have a MONTHLY event... As more as a social event...

We could... Have a Weekly event... and WHOEVER shows... shows... so you always know there is an event... a;ways in the same place(?) and then you can choose to come play -or- not But it will always be available...

and then the MONTHLY will be more of an EVENT... New Locations... perhaps a breakfast get together in a new area... and then off to the ride...

Just some ideas...

So...

What is your (typical) OPEN schedule???
What ideas do you have?

My Schedule...
Sat Morning and Afternoon
Sun EARLY morning - Early Afternoon (But not BOTH)
Mon Morning
Tue REALLY EARLY MORNING... Before Work
Wed REALLY EARLY MORNING... Before Work
Thu morning and Evening
Fri Morning

This Friday - THE PATRIOT ACT - come celebrate democracy in action

****************************

Watching the advertising and media coverage of this year's crop of
political candidates, one is tempted to ask, "are these the best that
our nation has to offer?"

Next friday, November 10th, we of the Ninja Skillz collective intend to
prove otherwise. We seek a true representative sampling of this
nation's best and brightest. Individuals of honor, integrity, creativity and
blatant nonconformity. In other words, YOU. No matter how the election
turns out. No matter where you fall on the political spectrum. Whether
you feel that voting is your sacred birthright or a purely symbolic
substitute for true democracy, we will all have a reason to come
together next weekend and share in the moment.

We may want to celebrate or we may want to commiserate.
We might use our time to reconcile with sworn political enemies
or just to relieve a diaper-load of electoral stress. Either way, we
hope you'll come join us for:

THE PATRIOT ACT

Friday, November 10th, 2006
6465 Sunset Boulevard
Hollywood, CA 90028

8PM - 4AM
$10 all night
Bring your Ballot Stub for a free drink.

*** The Candidates ***
Sammy Bliss (ninja skillz, pocket)
Saynt (ninja skillz)
Thomas Lann (stormriders)

*** The Debate Schedule ***

My name's Michael and I work for a company that does marketing research for movies before they get released.

Basically we stage free preview screenings of movies before they come out.

Recent released films that we screened were Talladega Nights, the Departed, Man of the Year, and more.

There is an advance screening of a new Vince Vaughn (Dodgeball, Wedding Crashers) comedy planned for 7:30 Wednesday the 18th at the AMC Woodland Hills.

The film is called "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show." It follows Vince and a group of stand-up comedians as they tour from Hollywood to the Heartland, a journey covering 6000 miles and 30 nightly stand-up shows over 30 days.

I will be distributing free passes for this event throughout the valley this weekend, and depending on how quickly we book it up, perhaps also on Monday and Tuesday. I am willing to juggle where I pass out tickets to give everyone a chance to go. If you have a party of four or more people, I may well be willing to come and drop them off to you myself or to meet you somewhere mutually convenient.

So treat yourself, your friends and family to some deliciously funny free entertainment. it doesn't come much better than free.

If you would like passes for you/and or your friends, call me anytime at 310 999 3332. I can also be reached here on tribe but my responses may not be as timely as they'd be with a phone call.

Also, if you'd like to be informed of further events in the area, just ask in the phone message or email me here, and I'll add you to my regional list.

Thanks for your time and I'll see you at the movies!

- Michael

Hey folks, BURNcast is doing a story on COMMUNITY (drink!) and what it means to you. I'll be at the Gnome Sweet Gnome fundraiser tomorrow and I'll be recording sound bites on this topic. I'd really love to have a conversation with you and find out what COMMUNITY (drink!) means from the COMMUNITY (drink!) itself.

Hope to see you there!

Oh, and BTW...here's the link to tomorrow night's event:

Finally, I'm taking the Metro to this event. If anybody can give me a ride back to Lake Balboa/Van Nuys after the event, please let me know. Cheers!

4th of July BBQ without too much fire

Heather & I are having a small BBQ at our house in Woodland Hills. The company is typically mixed, not just Burning Man types, since we are an equal opportunity outfit. We are in a high fire zone we will not burn a bunch of shit or light fireworks. If you look towards the AIG building & Warner Park from our driveway, you might see some fireworks. Instead we will cook good food and make fantastic drinks, including Mojitos.

So the idea is… If you would like to meet a few local folks that might have similar interests, drop me an email for more info.

What: 4th o' July of course!
Where: Heather & Michael's house, aka Casa de Baza
When: Tuesday July 4th, 2 pm till...whenever you wanna go home!
Why: Silly question

Is look'n to teach... and me to learn...

If I can get 3 + 1 (4) peeps who also want to start...
He's up for giving an hour class...
$ Divided 4 ways...
More affordable...

I also want to play with SFV Burners and see what we can create as a play group...(or even TROUPE!!! )

I want to also explore the possibility of doing things together with staff's (or whatever odd and wonderful, new and different ideas pop)... Some form of spin'n, combining and passing (I have a juggling background) so I want to play with people... In community... not just a lone wolf!!!

Who's up for it?

And if we get more than 4 (3+1)... we'll design something to accommodate... It's about community and PLAY!!!

So... this is NOT posted as a listing for a number of reason. Posted only to SFV Burner tribe and one other.
This is a first time event - if it works well... it may happen again before BM. Participatory - bring something!

**************

What's in the back of your closet? or stuffed under the bed? or in the boxes in your garage?
What costumes / clothes do you have that you no longer wear? Or are missing the right accessory for?
Lots of costume events are coming up - time to take stock and possibly refresh / revitalize your costume inventory.

Sun - June 25th - come over anytime after 1pm for set up, preview and swim time.
Flea Market will open when we have a mass of bodies and enough stuff.

Sticky Monkey Flower Bar and GRILL!!
Northridge, CA

Send me a message if you need my address / phone #.

I'll put my big shade structure in the back yard, with some tables and costume racks.
It will be hot!! Pool is open for all! Bring your swimming gear!

What you should bring -
Bring your costumes, clothes, shoes, hats, handbags, accessories you want to trade, sell or give away.
Camp chairs always welcome! Food and drink to share.
Contributions to bar always, always appreciated!!

RSVP please - so I can plan out some table / hanger space for ya!

I will post this to some other Tribesters in my network, feel free to invite others that may want to play Dress Up!!
A few of your friends ... sure, but please not the whole world.
Our conversation continues with Larry Harvey, Danger Ranger and Maid Marian. Here we ask: "Is Burning Man still dangerous?" Also discussed is hope and fear: the future of Burning Man. We wrap it all up with a special bonus track of Larry's explanation of why coffee is sold at Center Camp.

No, we don't have to go far to create community. Heck, we could even ride our playa bikes.

I suggest that we have a little BBQ or something sometime and really introduce ourselves. If not at a park, then at my house. It's small, but it does have a nice view of the valley.

If no one objects, any meeting at my place might also include L.A. area Burning Man Yahoo Prevention Task Force folks since we're supposed to get together for a meet & greet too.

Pesto gathering this Sunday 3/26

Pesto is a night of food, wine, and friends (both new and familiar). We are continuing the Pesto tradition of our San Francisco and San Luis Obispo friends.

Of course, the basics are provided. It is not a potluck, but if you have an incredible recipe that you are dying to make, go for it. We have two-buck Chuck, if you want to share something better, no problem.

We are trying to develop motivation and get this going about twice a month. Our first night happened on 2/19 and we had a good crowd.

This really isn’t a Burner gathering, but a lot of us are into that kind of dusty stuff.

If you are interested check out or join the group at: http://tribes.tribe.net/pestola

A little bit about the hosts:

Heather & I host this event at our home in Woodland Hills. We have a couple of dogs, but they are invisible for most of the night. One dog is a love bug. The other is a grumpy old bastard. Sometimes my humor is dry and offensive, but that is subjective. Heather is awesome, but you will figure that out.

Otherwise, we are horrible hosts and pesto night is lame. Come check it out.

I'll be back in the Valley around mid april and would love to start a weekly drum circle someplace close. I personally own a bunch of drums and other small percussion toys I could let people use. I would be happy to show the basics to anybody who ever wanted to drum but never had the opportunity. Would also be a great for people wanting to practice poi/hoops etc. If anybody is interested let me know and i'll get it together.

Pisces Passion Party Discussion Thread

I mentioned this party in the "stuff to do" thread, then I saw Samwise had made a listing about it, so I guess we are thinking alike. If there is interest in getting together at the party (caravaning over, camping together there or whatever), this would be a place to discuss it.
