The below message was posted in a yahoo group & got a bit of discussion..
I recently saw a flyer for an event, a fundraiser & was curious about
it. Based on the flyer, I was not certain who is or is not welcome.
Which got me to thinking further on this issue, as it pertains to me
(and people like me). You see, I am Intersexed. Approximately 1% of
the population is intersexed (source: ISNA website). So we are in
fact out there in far more numbers than many folks realise.
I know that the society I live in is a Gendered society. I had to
select a gender to have a Yahoo email address. But they only offered
male or female. I am neither.
I am not a man, I am not a woman, I am not Trans. I am Intersexed.
I am genetically intersexed. Furthermore, I as identify as an
intersexed person. I see my orientation as Queer. Indeed, I don't
actually see it as possible for me to be homosexual, hetrosexual or
bisexual.
There are Men's Events. Women's events. Trans events. I am none of
these things. I don't want to be a man. I don't want to be a woman.
I don't want to Transition. I am happy as I am. Both male and female.
I respect that different spaces & different parties have different
rules. And I do not want to make anyone else uncomfortable.
So.. where do I fit? Where do I belong. Where would I be imposing?
I thank you all in advance for your thoughts or input.

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?
Sun, February 4, 2007 - 10:49 PMFunny you should mention that...
I had made posted this in another group & we had a very nice & inclusive discussion (tho limited participation). In the midst of our discussion, a person from The Exiles posted for their New Member Orientation, which listed the "open to anyone over 18, that does not identify as male."
I made a comment, wondering if the post was in part a response to my post. I also wrote the person "Countess", privately, specifically expressing interest. This was last week. Countess replied:
1) No, it was not in response to your post
2) I see you wrote me a private note.. I'll get back to you soon.
Today, I sent a follow up note to her.
I have not heard back yet, but hope to "soon"... whatever that means.

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?
Sat, February 17, 2007 - 6:06 PMI'm pleased to report..
Last night I went to an Exiles program. Everyone I interacted with was very nice & welcoming. There were a few curious looks. And a couple of folks touched base with me, to get a better understanding. But I had a nice time. and I'm glad I went.
So I would encourage any folks out there, who are intsexed & not sure where they might fit it.. if you have an interest in Kink, check out The Exiles.

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?
Mon, February 19, 2007 - 10:49 PMIt was nice to meet you, Max. I'm sorry I was so distracted. Unfortunately, while I was on my way into the city, my co-presenter called and said she wasn't going to make it. So things were a little confused and hectic for me. I'm normally a lot more together for classes. But I'm used to only teaching half of that one. LOL. Luckily, we both outline everything, and keep notes of stuff, but like everyone, there's always a certain amount that is in your head and never gets written down.
I hope it was good and everyone learned something. And I sure hope everyone had fun. I'm planning to attend more exiles meetings, so no doubt I'll see you more often in the future.

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?
Mon, February 5, 2007 - 1:45 PMTrans parties aren't just for people in transition. They are for genderqueer people of all sorts. Those who don't fit in the binary and those who have crossed boundaries within the binary. You'd be more than welcome there. Screwup would be an ideal group (www.screwup.info/). Queer Playground at the Citadel is another.
Exiles would welcome you if you don't identify as a man I believe.
The bang for the buck party is a women identified party I believe., which doesn't really leave much room for those who identify as both/neither, though I met a few people there who did. For this party, your energy is more important and yet so very abstract.
Most venues in San Francisco tend not to be biology focused. They don't care about your genetics or genitals, they care about your identification. (most, not all). I speak from experience more from women/trans parties as I've never been to a men's party (though I sure wish I could try one!)
Hope this helps and I hope you're able to break into the scene, educate others and have a hot and sexy time!!!!! -

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?
Mon, February 5, 2007 - 8:28 PMI hope to attend some Screwup events & maybe even get involved in helping out.
I also hope to join The Exiles, as my Identity is Intersexed, not male/man. I have no Manhood or Womanhood.. but something in netween.. just as Nature intended.
Perhaps I will see you there, or at some other event.

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome?and Bang4thebuck...
Mon, February 5, 2007 - 8:34 PMheh..
I chatted with Midori before the event, regarding my curious question. She responded that she really didn't have a solid answer to the question. She's a pal, so I told her i would not try to attend this year.
Interestingly tho.. in response to a some posts I had made in another place, someone sent me an invite to go along with them to Bang4theBuck. :)
As to the claim that Bang4thebuck is for those who identify as women... it's my understanding that there were some folks who certainly seemed to be FTMs.. And I thought part of the point of Transitioning, was to be respected as genuine in your new gender.... It's a topic I have had pointed out to me by more than one person.
for myself... C'est la vie!

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?
Tue, February 6, 2007 - 3:14 PMActually, at Bang for the Buck, I saw someone that I am SURE was physically male but who identifies as genderqueer. I've seen him/her at Exiles, too. So I think Bang for the Buck has the same rules as Exiles--anyone that doesn't identify as male. (Of course, I could be wrong.) Everyone at that party seemed to be very friendly and welcoming.

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?
Tue, March 20, 2007 - 4:50 PMI run into those problems a lot too...
I'm not a man or a woman either. I don't have any sex identity other than human. I'm queerer than a 3 dollar bill! but the nearest resource center here often has "men's potlucks" and "women's potlucks" and so i wonder, "well, can I go to either of them or non of them??" and when their are lesbian groups, or gay groups, can i go? Cause, i am a dyke, but, not a lesbian, and I am a fag, but, i'm not a gay man and there are a lot more safe spaces within the binary... What about just, human?
If you're looking for Queer and Intersex friendly groups, try Intersexes Are Human (ISAH) (group.myspace.com/intersexes) or Gender Schmender (groups.myspace.com/genderschmender) They are second homes to me and really great about all kinds of stuff and what is really great is that not everyone has to agree to the same identity specs in these groups but people are really respectful.
Thanks for posting this max! We need more of this sort of dialogue.

Re: Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 10:27 PMPerhaps Primal may be a venue to explore .. It seems to span a wide continuum of orientations and genders . Maybe ask around about Primal and you can perhaps receive an invite ... There will be a Primal event in December in the SF-Bay area ..
