We will have a Squid Collective camp at Flipside this year with sound. We'll play psytrance, chill, and other electronic music. The camp has already been registered with Flipside: www.burningflipside.com/regist...ail.php

So far we have about six people committed.

If you would like to join our camp, please email me at squid@squidcollective.com. Assistance with setting up the camp and contribution towards expenses like sound, supplies, etc. would be expected. As the amount of space we've requested is limited we can't guarantee that everyone will be able to camp with us, but you'll certainly be welcome to come by and hang out at the camp.

OK, so is anyone interested in pitching in on generator rental and fuel?
I'm ready to bring 20,000 watts of BassMaxx sound to the squid camp, but we have nothing to power it with.

I just don't think this is going to happen. I'm really surprised at the lack of interest but oh well. At this point I have to take the offer off the table to pursue other things.

I'm not going to flipside or I would pitch in..... I think a lot of people on here who are going have been planning with other camps for months now so that might have something to do with it..... Good luck with getting it all together and running and have lots of fun. :)

I wouldn't waste your time bringing all 20,000 watts, honestly.

The caps are set up at 100db at 50' slow response c weighted.

Not high enough to let that thing purr.

The caps were instituted last year as a result of the sheer number of complaints in 2007. SMASHcamp and my line array were part of that problem, although not the worst offenders...so I then became part of the solution and helped set the policy for last year, and again this year.

Last year? -0- complaints throughout the entire event.

Sucks, in a way, but it ensures the continuity of the event.

The other issue is that the large sound camps had to be pre-registered and pre-approved, so it is honestly too late for such a large system to come out, even if you had rounded up a gennie.

Hope this helps, and see everyone out there...

                100dB @ 50ft.?? I think I could break that with a noisy vacuum.

Well, I've personally always though vacuums were too loud anyway.

                  But I am very sensitive.

                    Them's tha' rules.

I didn't set policy, the LLC did. We actually brought out my line array one work weekend last year and had people scrambling all around (even up to the Pedernales State park) taking measurements, both with meters, and with their ears.

Results? Last year -0- complaints. This year only 3. One of which we know what camp was out of line. The other two, the speculation is, at the moment, were caused by the fireworks.

This compares to many, many complaints in 2007, and visits by the local LEO's...some from the next county over even.

Not an ideal solution, but a functional one.

The LLC actually called a DEFCON 10 this year for the first time ever. All sound at the event OFF. We were scrambling. It lasted about 30 min, and we eased the levels back up... A very busy night, for me, it was.
