Yay people! I'm so excited about this! We have a unique opportunity here to further discuss many of the important issues in the other thread on the Texas Psy tribe with several old school burners, fellow psytrancer/burners, fire experts and the like!
I and a few others will be hosting a workshop at the chill stage in the morning around 8:30-9ish all about Burn events and how to properly integrate into that community.
If you have wanted to go to Flipside, Myschevia, decomp, Orfunner than this is for you.
If you have attended one or two of the smaller events, and want to go to Burning Man, this is for you.
If you just want to learn how to adopt the principles into the psytrance community to make ours a little better, this is for you.
If you consider yourself an experienced burner already, then come and give us your point of view.
We will be discussing the 10 principles, 6 principles that apply to Texas Burns, fire safety from a real Fire Man, how to make a theme camp, and what ever other topics or questions get brought up.
I highly encourage everyone to attend. You will learn a lot about community involvement, preservation, safety, harm reduction...so many things.
Again, it will be held at the chill stage in the morning. Several non-psytrance burners have expressed interest in helping lead the discussion. Let's show them how we do it and educate them in the process :) :)

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 2:10 PM"fire safety from a real Fire Man" that sounds a bit like elementary school huh? :) so he's the resident fireman in the burn community and I think he's going to talk about fire performance safety and other EMS stuff, not sure exactly. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 3:28 PMThat's awesome! Props for putting it together - I'd like to see more workshops and educational stuff at events. I don't know if 8am is the best time for any kind of legitimate discourse, though. :) -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 3:40 PMyeah I was kinda wondering that too, but I want to catch people before they leave. maybe we could do it once in the early evening and one in the morning. or perhaps it would be best to have kind of an area set up for if people want to individually come by and discuss these things. I was really hoping for more of a forum discussion though. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 4:15 PMI like the idea of setting up a fun area to discuss throughout the night... as well as I agree that a forum discussion would be good as well.
So, how about both???
There's gonna be lots of room in the chill space for setting something like that up.
:)

Tue, July 8, 2008 - 5:14 PMyeah we can do both...I'll likely be over there when the darkest music is playing anyway :) and I can have some printed materials handy.
Let's stick with the 9 am time though. I'll make an effort to round people up in the morning. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 5:33 PMRockin'...very nice work Katie. I am glad to see that there's an interest in the melding the two worlds some. We all have much to learn from each other in many ways.
Great idea, and I am glad that we could provide a space for this outlet :) -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 6:46 AMMy brother and I were just talking about that the other night. In the ideal situation, extra days would be really nice so you don't have to choose between being on the dance floor or talking with folks. Granted you can still do both with the music going full tilt but it would be nice to really have time to put a full effort into both. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 12:24 PMi think a lesson in fire safety is a great idea. Its seems that spinning fire has become way to trendy in a way. I dont know anything about it myself, but fire and dry vegetation can have disastrous consequences. Alot of times I've noticed that some of these folks have no safety measures in place, like a way to put out a fire if something unexpected happens. Not to mention spinning fire around your head could lead to bad stuff in itself. Some folks seem to be on top of the situation though. But yea, good idea. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 12:34 PMthat's so true...remember the burning leaves at New Guild??
I'm glad the response has been good so far. I'll have a few signs posting reminders around the area. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 1:29 PMoh yea, i dont think I will be forgetting that anytime soon. i was sitting not even three feet away from the cup of burning gas that got kicked over in our direction. Nothing like a wave of fire rushing past your feet to heighten the old senses. And of course there was the situation at rec plant of clear jugs of unmarked kerosene sitting amongst other beverages, but mixing it into my drink was pretty much no ones fault but my own. Not to be singling out the person involved with those situations, apart from the co-p, they seem to be relatively careful. But yea, i'm surprised people dont have a fire extinguisher on hand just in case. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 2:02 PMI'm also looking forward to getting to watch the crew coming from out west to do the xlr8r. They are highly experienced and have tended fires in similar situations to what we might have (burn ban, but able to burn because a fire truck is present). I look forward to learning a thing or to about building sacred dance fires. -
-
Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 2:08 PMDOOD!!! I was reading up about the xlr8r. Looks really intense!
Agreed, I cannot wait to see it. -
-
Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 2:31 PMso we're going to have a firetruck due to this xlr8r crew? I do not support a fire if we're breaking the law in any way. Are you sure there can be a fire if there is a truck present?? have you guys covered every angle here?? the LAST thing we need is johnny law knocking. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 2:37 PMWe talked to the land owners and they assured us that the local authorites do allow them to burn during burn bans as long as they have the fire truck on the premises.
It was in the shop when we were there last weekend but they said it should be back by the 26th.
They were wondering what color they painted it at Flipside... lol. -
-
Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 2:39 PMi just wanted to add that they said they've had this situation worked out for a very long time for the events that they throw there.

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 2:38 PMThe CMA owns a fire truck that they keep on their land (the same one we saw at Flipside I learned). Because of this, the local law enforcement allows them to have bonfires at their gatherings, even when there is a burn ban. If there is a ban the local authorities will be aware that a well tended fire will be happening at our event, and the CMA guys assured me there shouldn't be any problems. -

Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 2:39 PMYeah, what Paul said.

-
Re: Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 6:24 PMThey have firespinning safety workshops at CMA, as well as bonfire safety and my wife's goddess-hulahoop playshop (we don't do work)
we were talking about skipping Samhain since Myschevia is so close (and its more downbeat than Beltaine)
But with all this talk about the XLR8R
I think this Samhain I want to do a playshop on music, the XLR8r, and integrating pagans, burners and psytrancers...
all into one~
All the same light!
ps. found some great docs on youtube about psytrance, including the one they had at Mini-Giza at Decomp saturday. If you know of any others the A/V club can show at Orfunner, send me a linkie, and look for Innerstellar High and the AV club, between the showers and Goth Camp as usual! -
