Saturday November 29th, 2008: The Fourth Annual Shiva Shakti Trance-giving:

Please come join us for the Fourth Annual Shiva Shakti Trance-giving Celebration.
This will be a two part celebration! Be sure to head out early for the park festivities, and stay late for the after party.

DAY PARTY
Zilker Metropolitan Park: 2100 Barton Springs Road Austin, TX 78704

Polo Tables: Like last year, we will be located at the POLO Tables. Located in the southwest area of the park near the restrooms, 3 rows of tables with seating capacity of 150, restrooms near by, water fountain and water available, electricity is available, area is lighted. Listen for the tunes!

Music from 2pm-9pm.
Details on line up will be announced closer to the event.
Sound provided by Continuum Sound.

Food:
As always, we provide a vegan friendly menu for the duration of the days activities. We encourage all participants to bring veggie friendly treats for all to share and enjoy. Items such as juice, snack foods, cups, plates, and sporks, are always needed. To reduce waste: please bring reusable plates, utensils, water receptacles, and containers along with you.

Zilker does not allow public display of alcohol consumption nor do they allow glass containers. If you plan on drinking, do it responsibly and respect the park rules. Please contact us for any questions about items needed for the event or questions about the park alcohol policy.

Activities:
Zilker is known for it's awesome attractions! If the music and food are not enough, Zilker offers train rides on the Zephyr, canoe/kayak rentals, hike and bike trails, and if you get really adventurous.... the Barton Springs Pool is open all year round with an average temperature of 68 degrees! $0.00!! This is a free event hosted by Shiva Shakti. (Donations are of course always accepted and appreciated.. we heart you!)

Névé refers to a layer of snow that has been partially melted and then refrozen primarily at the accumulation area of a glacier, snow that is not yet ice, but is consolidated and granular. Eventually this snow will be compacted into ice, and become part of the glacier. Although névé is dense, settled snow, and may have layers of ice embedded within it, it is still permeable.

Nivation is the process of alternative freeze and thaw by which fallen snow gets converted into mass of ice.

As we go through our daily lives in an attempt to exert positive forces on the world around us, it is nice to be reminded occasionally of the summation and influence of our actions.

All of our individual efforts eventually combine into a force that is capable of changing and shaping the world around us.

Let us take this time to reflect on everything we have learned this summer season and use those experiences to strengthen and brighten our community.

Please take a moment before you come to the event to gather your thoughts and emotions, attempt to bring with you only the most positive and powerful experiences of this past season.

A Halloween Campout Event Friday-Sunday

Nocturing minds brings you 0ctober 31st <full circle> full weekend campout

Location is at the Bar H ranch in Saint Jo Texas. This is about an hour north of Fort Worth. About 4 hours from Austin.

Cover is $10 and all money will go to the ranch as a fundraiser for them.

This place is such an amazing place. Home of such shindigs as da la paz festivals(all three of them),southern jucktion,plus many mountain bike festivals...

There will be djs,bands,live interactive art plus many more things to make you go hmmmm.....
This is a multigenre event so expect to hear Psychedelic Trance,Trance,Breaks,Dub,Downtempo,House,Dubstep and etc etc........

Costumes are HIGHLY encouraged!!!!!!

Located in Fayette County, between Smithville and Flatonia. About 1/3 of the way onto the land, there is a creek that completely crosses the property. The main camping area is open and flat, but currently overgrown with mesquite trees. There is a line of trees that completely surrounds the property, providing privacy and wind and noise barriers. Featuring indoor/outdoor showers, power, etc.

After five editions of our magazine we have decided to stop the project. This means that there will be no Trancer's Guide 2009. The reason for this action is the difficult economic situation of the trance scene which makes it difficult to finance the project.

Any recommendations for getting rid of ground loop hum?

Some of the wiring just got fixed in my apartment building and now I'm getting the worst ground loop hum ever when I hook my laptop into my amp. I've already tried plugging both the laptop and amp into the same outlet and it only slightly diminished it. Of course running off the battery eliminates it , but I want a better option than that. I don't want to sweat if my battery will last when I'm playing gigs. Any suggestions? Do ground loop isolators take diminish signal quality or signal power?

Ok I found this compilation on psynews.org. I downloaded and reviewed it, pretty good I highly recommend checking it out. Oh you'll have to register with them before you can download.

Shock Blast – V/A – 3.5 / 5
Psy Core Records – This is a pretty good compilation. Most of the tunes would fall into the full on category, but there is a large amount of sonic variation. From the electro funk of Huja boy to the Cheese Mika hologram remix; there is a little something for everybody. Check it out. (Oh also I’ve included the “!-!!!!!” system of rating energy or intensity in this review, giving readers a sense of power as well as the quality.

1. Hujaboy – Liquifried – (3.5/5)
!!
My X-room mate introduced me to his Black Belt album a few months ago and I must say I was enamored with Hujaboy at first. He has a style that is distinctly his own, and this song is no different. It starts out with some techy tweeps and twurps which progress beautifully into a full grown melody. The beat makes me feel like I’m spinning in circles, possibly drunk, and the melody comes round and round at me until the break. A nice filter buildup brings it up to a little bit of a booty shaking stomper. After the break it builds up towards the end. Fun stuff.

2. Safi Connection – Control Freak –(3/5)
!!!
This song starts off with a sample of some guitar like instrument that sounds like its tuned down, almost eerie but not quite. There are rustlings of sound that bring in the bass line, which reminds me of Mario Brothers because it stays the same for a couple measures, jumps up , then back down for a couple, then lower. Nice progressive tension and release, the track almost seems to be breathing! The break was kind of boring :( Progressive back end build on this one as well.

3. Mika – Relax (hologram RMX)(3.5/5)
!!!!
It comes in straight and hard, a driving skipper if you will. The melody is pretty fun and playful hints of piano with hoover sounding synths going back and forth between each other. OK the build up to the break is just crazy, something familiar, oh wait a little break beat thrown in! Here it comes, oh wait nope more of that bass line, hah it tricked me I like it when an artist teases me. Relax? Oh mother of god, Cheese wiz, holy shit this one could be played at the skating rink. Oh well this is good cheese, like a pepper jack or a brie. Oh and the end builds down.

4. 2Minds – Eatio Ratio (3.5/5)
!!!.
Oh melodic intro that starts to go off pitch, hrm I gotta funny feeling about this one. It has a simple but effective bass line, almost breakish. There are lots of of light fluffy airy parts before the buildup with the double diesel bass. Quite a chorus of melodic noise, lots of atmosphere, everything breaks down and airs out then this strong melody comes in with some guitar, followed by a sweet glitchy breakbeat! Then a drum roll straight to the build out.

5. Safi Connection – Rock Into the Past (3/5)
!!!.
“Lets go back!” Yeah buttrock guitars!!! Woah the bassline is nuts on this one, hard fast and punchy. The guitar solo is pretty simple but effective and builds well with the other melodies. This story tells the tale of a lonely guitar who finds love with a synthesizer. Oh and then they take over the world, followed by a victory dance.

6. Psycho Punk – Welcome to My World – (4.5/5)
!!!!
OK this compilation is start to get crazy. This tune lays down pages of trippy sampling and effects over one of the phattest bass lines I’ve heard this year. There are just layers and layers of music all working in unison here. This punk is like a sonic puppeteer, pulling all the strings and making the whole thing pull together into one awesome little show. This one stands on its own.

7. Raz – Time to Fly – (3.5/5)
!!!!
The intro synth comes in remorseful yet optimistic then whammy there’s the beat. Yes this one is hard and driving. It sounds like humanity after Judgment day, regrouping to kick the machines ass with trance. Raz introduces all these lines of music, takes them out for others then throws them all together here and there as the plot of this song continues on. Great build ups and bring downs.

8. Psycho Punk – The Beautiful Mind – (3.5/5)
!!!.
The intro is like some guitar line from a Steven Segal movie, you don’t know whats about to happen but its sure as hell gonna be some ninja shit, then comes the funk-a-delic bass line, then it switches to a straight driving push that’s making me kind of sea sick. This one doesn’t strike me as well as the other PP track on this compilation, but still it’s pretty good, PP definitely has a knack for writing sweet bass lines.

9. Intergalactic – Back to Earth – (2.5/5)
!!!
This track comes in really spacey, like the music is coming through a wormhole and sounding all distorted before it finally makes it to this side. It tells the story of a ship of space pioneers towards the end of a long journey. Exhaustion of the trips mixes with the exuberance of knowing they’re finally there and there is work to be done. But first we party. Decent full-on track.

10. BPM – Fire Line – (2.5/5)
!!!
We enter in with one of those arpeggiated voices, then on with the galloping bass line. The melody kind of seas back and forth as the track builds up. Then back with the arpeggiated voice. A light airy Hindi sounding melody breaks forth and then back to beat. Then everything winds down towards the end. Whatever happened to saving the best for last?

I'll probably still burn them myself but want a nice print job on the cd itself and might do 20 cds at the most (for starters). I've already looked at Kinkos and am just wondering if anyone has better suggestions.

The land being used for this event is used for ceremonial purposes, so please respect it as if it were your own. As with all of our events it is LEAVE NO TRACE. Leave no trace meaning if you brought it in with you through the gate then you need to bring it back out with you. Bring all the supplies that you will need to get through the evening and into the next afternoon. This includes blankets to lay on under the stars, chairs, tent, bug spray, food & water. Showers are on site and are very well kept and semi private. The music on the main stage should go through till about 10AM. The site needs to be cleared by 2PM on sunday.

This event will be a rain or shine event. The land has plenty of trees and nooks to get into for camping. I suggest arriving as early as possible to have sunlight for setting up camp and finding both of the stages. Stay in the camping and stage areas since you are out in the wild, and bite anything that bites you first!!

Leave your bad vibes and drama outside the gate and set your affirmations to have a wonderful evening with us.

I would also like to add that this event is also a celebration of my wife Jessica's 31st birthday, my sons 14th, and my brother's 22nd birthday. I love you Jessica,Nathan and Dustin. Cheers to all the lions in my life!!

Lion's Roar Review... 7/23/08

I was on & off about being able to even make it to this party for personal reasons.

Normally I usually tear up towards the end of party simply out of being so grateful for friends & music, however, after walking around both stages & figuring out how to move in & out of trails I sat down in the downtempo area & cried my eyes out during Apophenia's set. It was the most beautiful selection I have ever heard in my life. Of course the setting impacted my emotions as well. I felt just as if I was hanging out at my best friends room w/the black light lit up & we were coloring with highlighters... & then look up & see the dj under a net canopy that was so ethereal that I felt like that area is exactly what heaven looks like at night. FLOWER FIGHT!

Loved the flowers, pillows, G L I T T E R, tapestries and being able to work on a group project with paints for the 3rd tapestry. That area felt like the best slumber party EVER! Very cozy, beautiful music, it was so easy to get caught up in staying there for too long.

Of course the psytrance stage was calling, and was an art exhibit in it's own right. I followed the lights to the lit up portapotties (which were so very NICE, really "if it doesn't come out yr body, it doesn't go down the potty!!") & treaded into the most bass exploding noises I've ever heard. The area looked just like a psychedelic museum , except instead of being able to only look at the UV reactive animal skeletons (with tribal faces -!!!) we could walk around them explore. I was blown away by how magnificent the dj cave of a lion's head looked. Sometimes I'd look up & it would love welcoming, royal rave boy, but then during PsyKoCid's set it looked flat out defying.... then cavelike during Facehead, then like a friendly lion opening it's mouth during Uhm & Force Majeure. Sharp teeth, sharp sets.

I literally, fell down during PsyKoCid's set. It was the hardest bass I have heard since - well NYE. I had to turn my back & it felt like I was getting a full blown massage. Very intense. This hotness was countered when I went back to the cool downtempo area.

Psytrance stage was fire. Downtempo was water. I seriously would go down to the downtempo area & the music sounded like I was drinking cool water. Both stages were set up so that people would have to pass each other & I liked meeting the new ppl.

I also really appreciated there being a burning workshop. I learned a LOT & can't wait to make it out to a burn event SOON. I had no idea how intense things could get & was glad that Katie, Michael, Billy & Alex were able to answer all of my questions... but of course I still haz more. lol...

Happy birthday to Jessica, yr fabulousness gets even better every year. Thanks to Brian, Melody, Nick, Keith, Lainey, Erin Lee and everyone put positive energy towards this party... it was a very healing experience for me. Love each & everyone single one of you. <3 Kitty

Solid Exhibits Wave Properties

Alright, maybe I can assume most folks on here know about light exhibiting both particle and wave properties. While that's some heady stuff on its own, I've come to accept it since I "learned" it many years ago.

I just found out about fullerines exhibiting wave properties. It is pretty amazing to me because a fullerine is not just a photon like light but an entire molecule. Once again, science is proving what Eastern religion and mystics have known to be true for thousands of years.

Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar!!

Yay people! I'm so excited about this! We have a unique opportunity here to further discuss many of the important issues in the other thread on the Texas Psy tribe with several old school burners, fellow psytrancer/burners, fire experts and the like!

I and a few others will be hosting a workshop at the chill stage in the morning around 8:30-9ish all about Burn events and how to properly integrate into that community.
If you have wanted to go to Flipside, Myschevia, decomp, Orfunner than this is for you.
If you have attended one or two of the smaller events, and want to go to Burning Man, this is for you.
If you just want to learn how to adopt the principles into the psytrance community to make ours a little better, this is for you.

If you consider yourself an experienced burner already, then come and give us your point of view.

We will be discussing the 10 principles, 6 principles that apply to Texas Burns, fire safety from a real Fire Man, how to make a theme camp, and what ever other topics or questions get brought up.

I highly encourage everyone to attend. You will learn a lot about community involvement, preservation, safety, harm reduction...so many things.

Again, it will be held at the chill stage in the morning. Several non-psytrance burners have expressed interest in helping lead the discussion. Let's show them how we do it and educate them in the process :) :)

costa rica anyone?

I am just wondering if any of you know any info about costa rica psy parties. I have done a bit of research however, it is always best in my opinion to ask those who have been etc. I know there is a scene out there and am hoping to encounter an event whilst i am out there for the summer. It is always a treat to check out a gathering while travelling. this always has me feeling at home no matter where in the world I am .
Also if you have any great tid bits or suggestions about where to rest, where to check out..this too will be helpful. I am merely throwing on the pack and heading out there. Leaving the rest up to intuition...though some loose planning is always helpful and keeps the mind at bay.

The time has come once again to gather the very fabric which holds the Psytrance scene together in the U.S. and celebrate one of the BEST things in life.... " GEMINI ".

I've talked to alot of people on my travels last year and danced with a great amount of brothers and sisters unifying on the dancefloor. The energy and pure joy of the communities that were created at these events brings happiness to my heart in knowing the togetherness we share.

On these adventures, I got to hear and talk to the next group of Sound Shamans who will bless us with their infinite wisdom of the communicative nature of the message in the music on the Main Stage. Some are pioneers of the scene here in the States, some are fresh talent, who are the future of our glorious family. I also connected with a decor artist ( Shane, Touch Samadhi, N.Carolina ) who will show off his unique talents together with a couple of hometown deco heroes ( Infinite Chaos/SpinJam Andreas, EyesMind Tony, and Chris of Synchronize ) to bring GEMINI to HIGHER HIEGHTS.

The Chill Area will be managed by Blue Spectral Monkey who has had many years of experience bringing the right vibe to gatherings. He has all the resources he needs to bring something together that we have never seen at GEMINI to date. The lineup will consist of people who are not playing on the Main Stage to ensure a proper voyage of a unique kind at this Area.

GEMINI 08' will be held on June 13th - 15th at the same location as last year. Full directions will be out a week before the show. And as most of us know, like the BEST things in life, GEMINI is a free gathering. I don't make flyers for this event, e-mail and word of mouth makeup the family that attends this show. And this show is like NO OTHER. There is plenty of camping space for everyone, bathrooms with showers, a restuarant and saloon with a small marketplace, and the Feather River to swim in..... Happy Happy Joy Joy!

We will have 2 special guests with us from afar this year on the Main Stage and 2 or 3 at the Chill Area. I will keep the Main Stage Live Acts secret as not to taint the reasons for those who come. It will be a " BIG SUPRISE " for all. Let the rumours begin!

There will be a Ritual by Shanti and Friends on Saturday at 4:40pm before the music starts at 5pm. The Main Stage will be shut off from 12pm to the Ritual. During that time, the Chill Area will be in FULL AFFECT, we will have Belly Dancers grace us with their talents.

As for the lineup on the Main Stage, I have it almost complete. I will list the people who know their playing and then list the folks who I will be asking. Since GEMINI is a free gathering, I'm going to need a few poeple who can fly themselves out for the show and or pay for part. Here is the list;

summer solstice festival at Bar-H ranch

I'm not one to post about parties...but this one is going to be quite awesome. Its at the same place they held southern junktion, and i think its 25 bucks for the 19th-22nd.

“Festival de la Paz” is four days of camping, music, mountain biking, good times, and peace. All money raised goes to the nonprofit corporation La Paz. La Paz is an organization that works in conjunction with other nonprofits to support cultural and social diversity, fund international humanitarian trips, and enhance our immediate community by providing goods and services to those in need in the name and spirit of peace. This year's event will benefit the Inter-tribal Council of American Indians, a historical and educational organization protecting the North American Indian heritage of Texas and its cultures.

The event will be held once again at the Bar H Ranch. This venue is a magical place on 1100 acres, full of Indian history, natural amphitheaters, multiple camp grounds, cook shacks, 28 miles of pristine single tract mountain bike trails, fossil pits, artifacts, and a gracious host to us. We ask that you come to Texas on the summer solstice, June 20th, til Sunday @ noon, to support a worthy cause. We have a opportunity to stand in solidarity and promote a better world for all humanity.
