let us mulch and layer our definitions of compost modernism,
let us decompose our ideas and concepts into a rich, fertile loam
let us feed the sprouts of a living art movement!
here's the start of a brainstorm....
feel free to add your own layers....
change, transformation
participation, collaboration
the waste of the past becomes the resource of the future
layers and layers and layers
stir it up
permaculture patience
site-specific design / re-design
make art in the moment
observe, integrate, apply

Re: Compost Modernism: let us collectively write a womanifesto!
Mon, May 29, 2006 - 4:19 PMThis will help......
I found the following excerpt about compost modernism on the internet from the book: Earthfuture : Stories from a Sustainable World by Guy Dauncey
"It was compost modernism which imploded postmodernism, with spades. It came out of nowhere, celebrating everything that was real through participatory music, dance and song, crazy home-made sculptures and street poetry. 'Participation, not performance' was its catch-phrase, as it joyfully invited everyone to join in. The important thing in compost modernism is to be authentic, not to pretend. An authentic rendering by a street musician who is fully engaged in the music is felt to be more desirable than a stage performance where the actors or musicians are just going through the motions. Compost modernism took the sticks and bones of postmodernism and tossed them into the compost heap of life, to be eaten by worms and regenerated into new life, ready to start over again. It was dirty, refreshing, funky, amusing, and very 'down here'. It was art that came from the belly, not the brain."
Extracts from a letter by Malcolm Forsythe, in London, UK, to his friend Anton, in the Ukraine, recalling some of the events of 2012.

........exists as an ever expanding/collapsing/growing/decaying collectivist means of expressing the moment.
as momento?
as momentum?
as momentus mummering?
As multidisciplinary performance catalyzers, we use what's at our fingertips to emote everything and anything.
We think in spiral form.
We are expanding outwards from the centre.
(coiled-up inside our shells observing the immediate)
this is a complex kind of simple.

Sat, January 20, 2007 - 4:21 PMWhat I see happening here is guerilla theatre... a fun concept (and an important one) that has much to support it.
There IS a "scientific" aspect to ComPost-Modernism:

Perhaps there's a way to combine the 2? As to spiralling outward (or inward) check out:

Think Like a Tree
Tue, August 21, 2007 - 7:20 PMThink like a Tree.
Think of a protest in slow motion… super slow motion, where twenty minutes equals twenty years. The people are not marching; instead they are houses, dwellings. The signs they hold are lives.
The environment is the environment of the mind. We can not see it yet, not like we can see water and sky, but if we could see it, we would be horrified. This environment is filthy and toxic and stinking, and it is killing us.
In the early 1950s, the idea of “environment” applying to the “outdoors” was inconceivable. That was before Silent Spring *, perhaps the opening of the “Green Revolution.** ”
You could see the smog and pollution and trash blowing along the road in the 50s… but nobody paid any attention to it. It was the elephant in the living room, the crazy aunt in the attic. That dialogue started 50 years ago. It continues today.
A new conversation opens up now. We are beginning to become aware of the collective environment of the mind. The poisons of war and greed are loose in the world. We can only reach to the sunlight and convert energy into nutrition.
We must stand where we are and converse like trees.

the "green revolution" was most instrumental in the last century moving 97% of the population off the farm and into the city. now the percentages are almost the exact reverse.

we must be like trees,
swaying in this word wind
allowing ourselves to fall onto ourselves
atop it all but for a brief instant
crusting and seeping back into this
always on the rise!
