~Shaman's Dream~

Shaman's Dream is a multi-creative endeavor that seeks to create spiritual rapture, communal ecstasy, and a sense of communion with the divine... We base our philosophy on five basic principle which are as follows: mercy, compassion, kindness, forgiveness, & love. Mercy for everyone as we ourselves would hope to be given in our hour of need. Compassion for all sentient life, that is to say that we feel directly connected to both their joy & their pain. Kindness as an essential way of living & acting towards others. Forgiveness for the inconsistencies of others as it pertains to the keeping of these precepts, for we ourselves know that we are imperfect. Love as the very essence of existence & our continual mantra for the kind of world we hope to re-create. Our efforts with the Shaman's Dream Revolution began with a dream that this generation could say & do something profound that the world has never seen before, that WE could fulfill our creative, spiritual, & intellectual potential by living a life worth writing about, a life TRULY worth living... a life of extraordinary proportions!

After years of inspiration in the classrooms & streets of over seventeen different countries, and countless inner-city out-reaches both in America & elsewhere, I decided to increase our efforts through the magic of an intimate spiritual experience that involves all the elements of creativity... first there is a circle of beings gathered under the canopy of oneness & equality, then there is rapture through the singing of sacred & inspired songs, then there is poetic/prophetic performance within the circle, all the while surrounded by sacred dancers evoking the rhythms of the divine, & in between all this there is an exchange of holy hugs & kisses of compassion that bring us closer to the enlightenment of Love... in addition there is the staging of sacred theater in which we bring together some of the feminine & masculine medicine-people of the past & let them have a dialogue to discover commonalities of spirit. The Shaman's Dream is a direct effort to bring an end to suffering in its various forms... it is an effort to reunite the masculine & feminine energies in order to restore balance & harmony to our spirituality... it is this generation standing up & reclaiming their divinity once & for all, it is a reawakening of the divine in our current society. It is a balm for the gashes of a tragedy-stricken world. Shaman's Dream is sibling to the enlightenment of our ancient pasts, when we were still tribal beings of enlightenment & universal respect for all sentient siblings. In these efforts we are looking to revolutionize our own lives and help others realize that the boundaries around them are more flexible than they know; that oneís potential should not be hindered by the rules, or setbacks, of the world.

The music, poetry, dance, sacred sensuality, & divine drama performances represent the beginning of our inspirational efforts to make the world a better & more beautiful place. We seek to create a sense of spiritual rapture, & deep communion with spirit as a community of equal-enlightened beings. As people who have dealt with personal hardships, we hope to unconventionally help a society that has been sent reeling by the overwhelming nature of ugliness such as the starvation of children, the cruelties of neglect & abuse, the suffering of the masses through prejudice & inequality, international war campaigns, and even more so, the tyrannical & burdensome heaviness of everyday mundane life.

In the Shaman's Dream Revolution we believe that ìIt is the holiest thing to be alive & happening...when did we stop understanding that? It was the very moment that we let religion become something that divides us instead of doing what it was designed to do...unite us with the spirit of existence...instead of relying upon scriptures that were written thousands of years ago, why arenít we creating new & exciting scriptures of our own that are as holy & beautiful as any ever written? Does anyone have the courage to worship the Great Spirit on their own terms any more, or has everything become so commercial that the world has bought into a brand name religion because it is the kind thatís least inconvenient in the tedious habit of their morally planned out lives? What happened to our spirituality, to being in love with every divine detail of our existence in a way that was intimately connected to a harmonious balance among energies? Everything is whispering something holy as it passes us by in the blink of an eye...each breath is a gift not to be taken for granted, & these are the living scriptures of utter connectedness, & of belonging to Love at last. These are the sacred semantics of what it means to be a poet in love with being a part of this wonderfully magic creation! We are the lost prophets, the spiritual orphans of a tribe of shamans, medicine-men/women, & Christ-conscious warrior-poets seeking to transform into the manifestation of our best & most sacred dreams... Creator Spirit is all around us, & within every bit & particle of every thing both imagined, dreamed & happening...that means that once & for all, EVERYTHING IS HOLY! For in the end... God does not play favorites, & we are all one...î Shaman's Seduction is our attempt to ëdefy gravityí as it were. We seek to help others recognize ways to make their own lives more meaningful, and inspire them to take control of their ability to truly live, and not just get by. The key to this Revolution Of Living can be found in our creative potential, our self-determined happiness, our ability to reject normalcy and the ugliness of fear, and make the world more beautiful than it was before we came into it.

The Shaman's Dream began as a desire to tell the world something that we've never told another soul, we want it to be something no one has ever told you either...something you never expected to hear from another human being as long as you lived...we want it to change your life like only truth can, in a way that is profound and forever...we want you to weep when you hear it...tears of complete and utter enlightenment born from your soul's own eye...we want you to laugh too, when you feel every cell in your body come alive with meaningful delight, as these wordless experiences make love to your heart with such delicate poetry that you are sure you'll lay in them every night before you sleepÖ'' our's is a world that is in desperate need of people who care & are willing to do everything in their power to make existence a better & more beautiful place, through actions, words, creative endeavors, and a willingness to embrace the importance of what each & every single moment truly represents... if you're up to the challenge, come & see for yourself what we're really all about. Dreaming-Bear Kanaan lives between Maui Hawaii & Long Beach California. He has been a teacher at California State University Long Beach, Cerritos Community College, Golden West College, Maui Community College, & Irvine Valley College in the last several years. He has two MA's, one in Sacred Performance, & one in Native American Philosophy.
