empowering the voices of disenfranchised and underprivileged minorities in south asia through art and education... the shantisalaam 2007 winter tour featured stops in 11 cities in india & pakistan, focusing on the religious tensions in the region. our work involves using art & poetry to empower the silent masses of the third world to voice their concerns to their governments, and to build mutual understanding against the divisive effects of religion- and culture-based politics.

we addressed issues as diverse as human rights abuses, freedom of speech, and voting rights, through a series of poetry & visual art workshops, interviews with activists, academics and citizens from all walks of life, and a number of dj / spoken word / live percussion performances. for more information visit www.shantisalaam.org...
