No one will be humiliated or made to cry, we promise! :) Consider that even if you haven't had a lot of Tribal training, you will have had 3 classes with the ladies by the time the advanced class starts.

Sooo...Sharon Kihara is coming to the Netherlands and she's giving 4 workshops of which I'm wanting to attend 3. However, there's a very big 'but' involved here. I've been taking classes for (only?) about a year and it's been in egyptian-influenced style for the most part. I've been interested in tribal style bellydance for about the same year but haven't been seriously pursuing it, if that makes any sense. My knowledge of (and skill in) tribal bellydancing is thus quite limited (but you gotta start somewhere, right?). Next to that: I have about zero experience in Yoga (asides from what I got from bellydancer's DVDs), my teacher incorporates yoga movements and postures in our classes but it's still different from, for example, the yoga warmup Sharon gives on her DVD. I already have a hard time keeping up with that!

I know it's a bit silly, but to me it can get quite frustrating if I feel like I'm so far behind on the others that I'm spending more time trying not to trip over my own feet than actually enjoy what I'm doing. I don't mind working hard(er) to keep up but I don't want to half-ass the movements and learn it the wrong way.
One of the workshops states that it's for 'all levels', the other two 'encouraged to give it a try'. So those of you that have been to her workshops: how doable and awesome are they for someone like me? I'm curious to hear your experiences. :-)

(sorry that this turned into a wall of text!)

Technique Building, Body Creativity and Conditioning for the Tribal Fusion Dancer.
Using a variety of movement methods, we will condition and tone the muscles that we rely on most as bellydancers, emphasizing healthy alignment of the spine and joints. After a warm-up and mat session, we will then rock out with technique-focused drills that get the rhythm in our bodies and our blood pumpin! This body-warming class will culminate in fresh dance combinations! All levels are welcome.

SATURDAY MAY 17th | Sharon Kihara | Bear Hides and Buffalo | € 52,50 | 16.30 - 19.30 hrs
Location: Danscentrum Utrecht | Mgr. v.d. Weteringstraat 13 a | Utrecht | www.dcu.nl

A Slightly Strange Tribal Fusion Choreography. This is an all-levels class that allows us to explore the more avant-garde side of bellydance. After a warm up and short drill session, we’ll integrate Tribal Fusion bellydance moves with some unexpected twists, borrowed from classical dance and beyond. Some experience is great, but adventurous beginners are encouraged to give it a whirl.

Take a full day with Sharon for € 80

SUNDAY MAY 18th | Sharon Kihara | Weaving it Together | € 52,50 | 14.00 - 16.00 hrs
Location: Danscentrum Utrecht | Mgr. v.d. Weteringstraat 13 a | Utrecht | www.dcu.nl

Technique Focused Dance Combi's. We will learn and create some fun combinations that can be incorporated into your own repertoire, keeping strong muscular skill and alignment well in hand so the creative juices are free to flow! As we weave our moves into combos, we shall then weave the combos into a choreography to take with us! This class is fun and appropriate for all levels of Tribal-flavored dancer, and those new to Tribal Style are encouraged to give it a try.

SUNDAY MAY 18th | Sharon Kihara | Tools of the Trade | € 35 | 16.30 - 19.30hrs
Location: Danscentrum Utrecht | Mgr. v.d. Weteringstraat 13 a | Utrecht | www.dcu.nl

Masterclass! Here we will cover more advanced topics such as precise multi-layered movement, footwork, turning technique, floor work and preperation for backbends. Each student will be encouraged and assisted in creating their own strengthening and conditioning routine to take home and practice each day, in order to help them meet their personal goals as a dancer.

Take a full day with Sharon for € 80
Full in the mix: 10 hrs of Sharon Kihara & Olivia Kissel for € 180

I'm selling my two Sharon Kihara classes...the semi-private intensive for int/adv on Saturday and the choreo class on Sunday. I paid $120 and $55 respectively but am open to negotiation.
NEW THIS YEAR: semi-private class tracks for intense study with Sharon Kihara, Unmata and Kassar. What's really special about that? Some of the semi-privates are just for beginners! No need for your less experienced students to be cautious about coming to their first big workshop! We have semi-private classes just for beginners with Sharon Kihara and with Amy Sigil of Unmata. We asked these world renowned instructors, both
We recently released a debut album. It's a mix of electronic and arabian styles. We're hoping it might appeal to the tribal dance community. Please feel free to have a listen on myspace where we have four full tracks available to listen online.
It would also be great to promote it through the network of belly dance teachers who might be interested to sell it at a class or bazaar. We can offer it at wholesale prices with plenty of capacity for the seller to make a decent profit on top of the wholesale price.

DESCRIPTION:
12-2pm: Core Integration, Yoga for dancers:
Drawing from yoga, feldenkrais, pilates, and Deb's personal 'stash', this workshop will focus on core integration, spinal
articulation, and building the foundational strength and flexibility to directly support your dancing technique and prevent injuries. Focus will be on increasing pelvic, hip, spine, and shoulder flexibility, deepening core awareness, and gaining isolated control of all the muscles necessary for bellydance. A necessary foundation for any level dancer.

2-4pm: Let's dance it!
Applying the techniques we focused on it the first workshop, it's now time to integrate it into our dancing. Focus this week will be on deepening our slow, ooey gooey moves to achieve that slinky, sexy, intoxicating look and feel; drilling sharp, pronounced isolations, with new yogic, integrated awareness that will change your dancing at the core!. Also learn healthy ways for laybacks and backbending to save your low back; layering techniques; and 'floating' upper body and posture for stage.

> About Deb:

But some people came up and said that its maybe not a good idea...that it is too much etc...What do u think? Is it ok if I give her some nice hairfalls that I made myself as a "Thank you!"?

Registration online or by phone
1.800.431.0418

The general skills intensive is a 15 hour course, usually taken at the FCBD studio, with Carolena teaching. With only 20 people in Toronto, you will have Carolena and Megha teaching and coaching. You will receive instruction in anatomy as it applies to dance, music theory, instruction in all FCBD steps and concepts, drills, critique and question and answer time.

In order to attend this workshop, you MUST have prior ATS knowledge either via class, workshop or FCBD instructional dvds. This is a must - not an option. Usually a dvd or in-person assessment is required in order to qualify for registration, but this has been waived for this event. Do not disappoint Carolena or Megha - be well prepared with the material. All volumes of FCBD dvds can be purchased through Cleopatra's Bazaar or directly from FCBD.

Once completed, you will receive a General Skills for ATS certificate. It should be noted that completing this certification does not qualify one to be an authorized ATS teacher.

Also included in the registration are gourmet catered vegetarian lunches each day, water and juice for all participants.

Please bring finger cymbals
