Hello fellow belly dancers!

In case you have not heard, Shimmy a thon will be September 12th - 13th! This annual event brings together the belly dance community to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This year we have 3 exciting instructors, an evening show in a 400+ seat theater with a full-size stage, and of course our shimmy contest! Keep your eyes peeled for details!

I had a fabulous time at Shimmy-a-thon this weekend and really wanted to thank the organizers again for their hard work! :) I can't wait until next year!!!

Oh, and by the way, I am officially retiring from the shimmy competition, so it'll be even more fun to watch everyone else battle it out for the crown!!!! :-D

Oh, and my sweetie thought Mr. Inara's band was awesome... Dolce not so much, but Mr. Miriam was quite impressed.

We are very excited to announce that Whole Foods/Harry's Market – Marietta location has come on board with SAT08 as a Platinum sponsor!

On September 16, 2008 the store is sponsoring Shimmy-a-thon with a "5% Day" and will donate 5% of the day's net receipts to SAT/CFF!

Volunteers will be at the Marietta store on September 16th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, handing out flyers, giving demonstrations, and raising awareness for Shimmy-a-thon and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

thank you to all the beautiful dancers who came out last night in support of Shimmy-a-thon!

all the ladies delivered a spirited performance and met the challenge with style, humor and grace, not to mention some kick-arse skills. the audience was appreciative and highly entertained, LOTS of smiling faces and participation. it was a super-fun night, and i hope to see it repeated!

Come see your favorite performers go "hip to hip" and mix it up with
an exciting twist! Each dancer brings her own music, then swaps the
CDs. Dancers will be challenged to improv with their new "mystery"
track.

After all the dancers have shimmied their stuff, we get to see them
perform in their own genre. It's going to be a great time for a
great cause, so bring your enthusiasm and let's dance!

Fabulous Najmah Workshops and a Halloween Themed Hafla

Location: Powell Park - 524 Leslie Drive, Villa Rica, GA 30180
100% of the proceeds from this event goes directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Najmah has training in Egyptian, Turkish gypsy, Flamenco and Modern dance. She has been featured on the Today Show, CNN, R U the Girl Reality Show, Y.O.U music video, and Busch Gardens Tampa as a Snake Charmer. Najmah is best known for her graceful technique in using the veil and her Flamenco Fusion which has been tiled by many as one of a kind.
10 AM - Noon Najmah's Veil Class Description $25
Najmah will show how the veil can imitate the fluidity of the body with combinations you can use with the veil and short choreography to two different songs.
1 PM - 4 PM Najmah's Spanish Fusion Class Description $35
Najmah will be teaching modern Gypsy styling and combinations comprised of Middle Eastern dance and Spanish classical. In this class you will need a skirt and the music for the workshop will be available for purchase.

What is Shimmy-A-Thon?

Shimmy-a-thon is a Fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation that uses the appreciation and performance of bellydancing to raise money to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

In just two years we raised over $39,000.00 for the cause!

The event provides dancers with three ways they can participate and help raise money for CF:

1)The fundraiser- before the event Bellydancers in the Atlanta area raise money through pledges from friends, family, and sponsorship. At Shimmy-a-thon the dancers get together and shimmy-continuously (much like jump roping in jump-rope-for-heart). GREAT prizes are awarded to our participants based on fundraising and shimmy times.

2) The workshop- fabulous dancers have generously donated their time to come and share their talents with the local dance community. Dancers are invited to take classes with these instructors and all proceeds from their workshop attendance goes directly to the cause.

3)The Show- the bellydancers from the fundraiser perform in front of a live audience. Performances consist of both soloists and groups and the use of props including veils, swords, zils and more!
