Deport Bounding Main Campaign Extravaganza May 31, 2008

Great news! Our final Deport Bounding Main event will be in the same building as the hilarious duo, MooNiE and BrooN. The great MooNiE himself will be gracing our humble stage, bringing his peculiar brand of comedic skills to wow the crowd. In return, Bounding Main will open for each of MooNiE and BrooN's performances with a couple tunes to warm up the crowd. It'll be the coolest thing since we opened for the 80's hair band Slaughter back in 2004 (true story!).

We welcome MooNiE and BrooN fans to our event and we strongly encourage you, our faithful fans, to buy tickets to see their show either before or after ours. If you've never seen these guys perform before, you've got to see what you've been missing! You won't be sorry.

We are also very happy to announce that joining us will be the delightful and exotic tribal dance troupe Rakhshanda. We last performed together at last year's Port Washington Pirate festival and they are great artists whose dances you will enjoy! Plus we'll have a silent auction, our final fund-raising effort for the Deport Bounding Main campaign for our European voyage this year!
The event will be at the Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest Illinois on May 31, 2008 4PM - 8PM. Included in our event will be several fundraising efforts, including a silent auction and Operation Share the Shanties. Pirate Ball

The Pirate Ball is an evening of music, raffles, and piratical fun for all. We have local nautical musician Skip Henderson and The Starboard Watch as well as local indie rock group The Plasterkatz to entertain our guests. We encourage our guest to come dressed in their best pirate gear, so they can enter the best dressed pirate and rum wench contest. The Contest will be judged by our guests from Pirates Of The Caribbean movies.

The Pirate Ball is March 15, 2008 at the Verdi Club 2424 Mariposa Street, San Francisco, CA 94110 doors open at 8PM. The ticket price is $30 in advance or $40 at the door.

Our silent auction has had some of the greatest donations; over $2,000 worth of merchandise has already been donated with more to come.

Pirate-Core Seminar in Chicago

Gerard Heidgerken of Bilgemunky.com and Bilgemunky Radio will be delivering a multi-media presentation at the Chicago History Museum on Saturday, February 23rd as part of the 2008 Chicago Maritime Festival. The presentation is titled "Pirate-Core: Sea Shanties in the 21st Century", and will cover the evolution and current state of this contemporary spin on the traditional sea shanty.

Gerard is one of many presenters at the 2008 Chicago Maritime Festival. Tickets to attend the festival are $10 (free for kids 12 and under) and may be purchased online or at the door. The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The exact time for "Pirate-Core: Sea Shanties in the 21st Century" is not yet scheduled.

Pirate-Core: Sea Shanties in the 21st Century with Gerard Heidgerken

As a musical genre, the sea chantey has gone largely unchanged since the age of sail. But where most maritime artists have chosen to embrace and preserve the rich heritage of this music, others have opted to take their fascination with the sea into surprising new directions. This session will explore the development and current state of Pirate-Core, a relatively young yet incredibly diverse musical genre that blends the traditional sea chantey with such contemporary styles as rock, rap, punk, metal, and more.

Gerard Heidgerken is the host of Bilgemunky Radio, a weekly online show featuring pirate-themed music from around the world. He comes from a long line of sailors, and served a six-year stint in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S. Enterprise. His love of sea shanties began with Schooner Fare, having first heard them when growing up in Maine.
