Last night I discovered that a certain person tagged me in a "photo" on facebook that advertises an event she is organizing. The "photo" is actually a flyer advertising the event. This event has nothing to do with me - I have no plans to attend, I'm not teaching any workshops there, and I'm not performing there. It's in a city far, far away from me. I don't even know the person who posted the ad - I just accepted a facebook friend invite from her, as I normally do when I receive one that's obviously from a fellow dancer.
The photo on the flyer was of an empty swimming pool at a resort. There were NO PEOPLE AT ALL in the photo. And yet she had tagged it with a whole bunch of dancer names.
I think she tagged me to make her advertisement appear on my "Photos" section when people look at photos of me - as a way of getting her flyer seen by more people. I find it really obnoxious that she's trying to use my facebook identity to promote an event that doesn't involve me.
I have removed this person from my friends list and reported it to facebook as a violation of terms of use.

Re: I really hate "dancer spam"
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 3:44 PMNot that this will solve everything but you can untag yourself on a photo if someone tags you.
Other than that that's a pretty low thing to do.

Sat, October 24, 2009 - 6:15 PMA few dancers up her in Detroit were experiencing the same thing up her by event promoters. Extremely irritating and insulting on some levels.

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 5:47 AMWow. That's shady. I hadn't seen that done with photo tagging before, though I do know of a local dancer who tags her youtube vids with the names of other prominent local dancers and as many famous dancers as she can think of. -

Re: I really hate "dancer spam"
Mon, November 2, 2009 - 11:00 PMI had that too! Not an event - A dancer tagged me in a photo of T-shirts she was selling - I suppose because I am a costume maker and many people looking at my profile would see her product. Rude. I untagged myself. : ( Ive also had people offering their costume making services as comments on my FB group for my costumes. : p
