Recently, a couple of fellows who visited the page on my web site about the song "Streets of Cairo" sent me emails telling me about places they have encountered that melody line. (If you're not sure which song I'm referring to, or if you haven't previously seen the article you can listen to it on my web site at www.shira.net/streets-of-cairo.htm .)
So I have updated that article about the song to include the new information. While I was at it, I added information about three cartoons that incorporate a few seconds of the song in their soundtracks.

Re: The song "Streets of Cairo"
Sun, June 11, 2006 - 11:49 AMI've just added video clips showing the segments of each of the three cartoons where this song appears. It took a while to do it, but the page is more fun to explore now!

Re: The song "Streets of Cairo"
Mon, February 26, 2007 - 11:23 AMThere's an article about this infamous old song at this link:
www.straightdope.com/columns/070223.html
It appears that the author of the above article referred to some of the same sources I did when i wrote the following:
www.shira.net/streets-of-cairo.htm
I'm not alleging any kind of wrongdoing - the reference book we both cite is a leading work in its field, so I assume he found it independently. I just thought it was fun to find someone else's take on this song. I especially like the cartoon that goes with their article!
