I thought everyone here who loves Shirdi Baba would enjoy this deep spiritual information about what he's doing in the world, today, and how he's really helping to shape the fate of this planet. this excerpt is from the website of Sri Kaleshwar, the primary student/exponent of Shirdi Baba's messages and teachings in the world today:

Throughout the last century the global spiritual community has spoken of a New Age to come—an age marked by unprecedented humanitarian and spiritual growth. In 1998, Swami Kaleshwar first spoke in detail of this new age:

"It’s a new millennium. It’s not the Kali yuga anymore. It’s the Sai yuga. Sai means father and at the same time mother. Father and Mother. In the Sai yuga, everyone will come to love Shirdi Sai Baba. Whoever has Baba’s picture in their house will have unbelievable energy and blessings from him. Just thinking on him, ‘Oh Baba, I love you,’ that’s enough. They can pull his energy from his samadhi. Like making a phone call, ‘Hey Baba, I love you.’ Then he says, ‘I love you too.’

In this Sai yuga, after some changes and destruction, things will work very peacefully. Then everyone will want to pray to Shirdi Baba to get his blessings. Everyone will want to know about God, spirituality and love. There will be great understanding between each other, loving each other, communicating with each other—being truthful, honest, sincere, showing sympathy, mercy and kindness.

It will be very easy to know God in this yuga. The rules in this yuga (age) have changed. In every yuga, the rules change. We can’t compare this yuga’s rules with previous yugas’ rules. What Jesus went through 2,000 years back, we don’t need to do it the same way. There are a lot of unbelievable shortcuts. Every 100 and 1,000 years the laws change. Every 5,000 years the yugas change. I always follow the yuga rules. In this yuga it will be very easy to attain enlightenment after only a couple of years. It will be very easy to find God because Shirdi Baba will be working with everybody. You know, whoever calls, ‘Hey Baba.’ He’s there in the back, saying, ‘What do you want?’ Baba promised, ‘Take one step towards me and I will take 99 steps towards you.’ The way to find God in this yuga is Baba’s way—service. It’s Shirdi Baba’s nature—service: love all, serve all; to see everyone as human, as good, and make everyone happy.

In the Sai Yuga it will be easier to get enlightened, to win the victory, but this can only happen when we control our ‘blocks’, (negative emotions.) If you think you won’t get success how can you get success? Shraddha and saburi, faith and determination is important. Determined means wanting to see the edge of spirituality. Is there a limit to spirituality? Yes. If there’s birth, there’s death. When you come from a mother there it’s decided when you’ll die. But if a guru enters your life he can change your life span and lifestyle in a lot of angles. That’s why we say, ‘_Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshvara._’ But you have to surrender then you can hit it. Just open your heart and receive what you want.

Shirdi Baba’s works will become known and his divine presence felt worldwide. I’m bringing him to the world. I’m trying. Already many have tried. He’s always hiding; he’s been sleeping in Dwarkamai (the abandoned mosque where he lived). Hiding means he is a very intelligent master. He didn’t want to become famous. But now, in India, 85% of the people know about Shirdi Baba. In the world, only 6% know about him. In a few years many will know of him.

I’m doing my best to bring him to the world. But not as a religion. Jesus never spoke about Christianity. Mohammed never spoke of Islam. Lord Venkateshwara, Lord Krishna, never spoke about Hinduism. God only has one organization and that’s love. I’m going to that point, only there. The love organization—the religion of love."

little earthenware lights that he lit, he depended on the generosity
of the grocers of Shirdi. He had made it a rule to light earthenware
lamps in the masjid every evening and he would call on the grocers
tired of giving oil free to Sai Baba and one day they bluntly
refused to oblige him, saying they had no fresh stocks. Without a
word of protest Sai Baba returned to the masjid. Into those
earthenware lamps he poured water and lighted the wicks. The lamps
continued to burn deep into the midnight. The matter came to the
notice of the grocers who now came to Sai Baba with profuse

Dattatreya: The Origin of All Spiritual Traditions

(I'm sharing this story because Shirdi Sai Baba was a Dattatreya avatara -- my teacher Kaleshwara's comment is that there have been many saints who've been at least a partial embodiment of the Datta energy -- including Ramana Maharshi & Nityananda -- but nobody in recent history embodied Datta 90% -- except Shirdi Sai Baba. there's a lot to say about Datta, but this is a running start.........)

it's one of my favorite favorite stories in the Vedic tradition, since it involves the greatest of all divine teachers, Dattatreya, from whom all lineages and all traditions originate, whether people practicing those traditions or religions recognize him as the origin.

since the story ALSO features the three goddesses in a kind of not-so-flattering light, I think it's particularly fun.

it goes like this -- there was a great rishi named Atri, an extraordinary rishi. his wife, Anasuya, was, as you might imagine, also an exceptional character. her austerities were so strong that she once literally stopped the sun from shining in order to help out one of her devotees.

her name, Anasuya, means, 'without jealousy.' she was modest and capable, brilliant and loving.

so of course, her pure nature being what it was, it attracted the attention and then the inevitable jealousy of the three goddesses, Parvati, Saraswati, and Laxmi, the wives of the three major gods in creation, Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu.

together, these mischievous women (clearly ladies with too much time on their hands!) decided to play a malicious trick on Anasuya, and sent their husbands to her with an outrageous plan to insult her.

the three husbands, at the command of their wives, show up at Anasuya's door. because in the Vedic tradition, a houseguest is considered an expression of god, it's essential that a host honors any and all requests of a guest, according them the same respect and service one would render a god. (only in this case, they really ARE gods, showing up at Anasuya's door!)

Anasuya invites them in, and offers them refreshment. the three gods, in accordance with their wives' orders, ask that she feed them without any clothes on, totally naked.

in India, even today, women are extremely modest (witness the wrapping of a sari!) and such a request, besides being ridiculous, is outrageous in the extreme, an insult to that woman's virtue and purity.

but because the guest is god, Anansuya had of course to acquiesce to this request.

unflappable as she was, she found a perfect way out of the intended offense to her modesty. first, she turned each one of the gods into an infant. then, she stripped off all of her clothes and breast-fed each god, one by one.

thus she turned a prurient interpretation of nudity into a spiritual principle -- where being 'naked' means, stripped of the three gunas, entirely, free from the illusion of the gunas, without attributes at all. she fed the three infant gods, who in their turn, each represent one of the gunas, and of course to a baby a naked breast isn't a lustful sight -- it simply means food is on the way. nourishment.

after she foiled the plot in this way, and fed the babies, Anasuya got dressed once more and went about her duties in her home, serenely. she left the three deities as babies, however, and when her husband Atri got home in the evening, after a day of sadhana, he took in the situation at a glance and was proudly, and rightfully, amused at the attempted trick and his wife's genius in handling such a lila.

eventually, Parvati, Saraswati and Laxmi got to realizing that the day had turned to dusk, and their husbands STILL weren't home. understanding that perhaps something had gone awry, they went themselves to collect their husbands and see what was going on.

imagine their surprise when they were ushered into Anasuya's home only to discover that their husbands were little drooling baby boys!!! not only were they babies, but neither divine goddess could actually recognize their own mates!

Atri, laughing, suggested that Anasuya should restore the gods to their rightful forms, which she did.

the wives were furious, and embarrassed that their plan had backfired so ridiculously on them, and they left in a huff.

the three gods, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva were so incredibly impressed with Anasuya (and so sheepish at their own collusion in the attempted mockery of her) that they each promised her a boon. they would grant any deep wish she wanted.

Anasuya being way too smart, asked for a baby, a son, from each of the deities' energy. they were happy to comply.

from Brahma, she received Soma, the moon. (also known as Chandra.)

from Shiva, she received Durvasas, a rishi known for his irritability and crankiness as well as his brilliance.

from Vishnu, she received Dattatreya, a most unusual child since he has three heads -- each one representing one of the three gods, the three gunas of creation, the three principles in the cycle of creation, maintenance, and destruction.

Dattatreya went on to lead an illustrious and unorthodox life. he is the original yogi, the original aghori, and the original guru.

Dattatreya -- the son of the amazing rishini Anasuya and the equally amazing rishi Atri, conceived through the energy of Vishnu in response to a lila of illusion from the three goddesses -- is the expert on handling the Mother Divine in all her forms and nature.

his guru, in fact, WAS Nature Herself.

Datta had 24 separate gurus from Nature -- the five elements, the sun, the moon, the ocean, a host of animals and insects, each of which taught him some different aspect of the divine and sadhana, and four human beings: a child, a maiden (virgin), a blacksmith, and a prostitute.

we're doing a big celebration on Sunday the 9th, the first day of the Guru Purnima full moon, with our whole community giving healings through Baba's energy techniques, and offering snacks and chai, and kirtan/bhajans and a homa to end the day.

www.karmatalk.com for details --

the big day of Guru Purnima, the full moon of the Guru, is on the 10th, here in America.

my teacher Kaleshwar, the leading exponent of Shirdi Baba in the world today, has this to say about this day:

These are Swami’s words about Guru Purnima:

"Guru Purnima Day, that energy, that’s the master’s energy. The master’s energy channelling means my master, my master, and my master to his master, his master, and his master – the heritage of the masters’ cycles. There’s no way the illusions can hit, can touch the masters’ cycles around that month period. It is their energy. That’s why they called it Guru Purnima, the moon of the Guru. A high percentage of that energy he’s controlling in his hands. At that time he can create, he can do, he can make it done certain amazing stuff in your life by grace of Mother Divine. In these entire 365 days, Guru Purnima is a very, very special day to get the boons from the master. Suppose if the master died, passed away and the student is alone then he’s trying to hook some other master but his soul is not accepting. His master’s soul is attached to him. According to the Indian tradition it has a special law that whoever is completely a devotional student doing with the master’s p rayers, they’ll get their desires fulfilled. Especially on the Guru Purnima day you can receive incredible energy, incredible blessing from the master. So Guru Purnima is a very, very auspicious day. As much as you can, try to sit anywhere to contact your master. Try to suck as much as you can the energy. The doors are open. The energy is starting to flow. The dam gates are open. It’s very important. You’ll never get again this time."

enjoy, everyone!

Om Sai Sri Sai Jai Jai Sai!

Once a Sanskrit scholar approached Kabir and asked him, “O Kabir, what are you doing now?". Kabir replied, "O Pundit, I am detaching the mind from worldly objects and attaching it to the lotus-feet of the Lord". This is concentration.

Concentration or Dharana is centering the mind on one single thought. Vedantins try to fix the mind on the Atman. This is their Dharana. Hatha Yogins and Raja Yogins concentrate their mind on the six Chakras (energy centres). Bhaktas concentrate on their Ishta Devata (tutelary diety). Concentration is a great necessity for all aspirants.

During concentration, the various rays of the mind are collected and focussed on the object of concentration. There will be no tossing of the mind. One idea occupies the mind. The whole energy of the mind is concentrated on that one idea. The senses become still. They do not function. When there is deep concentration, there is no consciousness of the body and surroundings.

When you study a book with profound interest, you do not hear if a man shouts and calls you by your name. You do not see a person when he stands in front of you. You do not smell the sweet fragrance of flowers that are placed on the table by your side. This is concentration or one-pointedness of mind. The mind is fixed firmly on one thing. You must have such a deep concentration when you think of God or the Atman.

Everybody possesses some ability to concentrate. Everybody does concentrate to a certain extent when he reads a book, when he writes a letter, when he plays tennis, and in fact, when he does any kind of work. But, for spiritual purposes, concentration should be developed to an infinite degree.

There is great concentration when you play cards or chess, but the mind is not filled with pure and divine thoughts. The mental contents are of an undesirable nature. You can hardly experience the divine thrill, ecstasy, and elevation when the mind is filled with impure thoughts. Every object has its own mental associations. You will have to fill up the mind with sublime, spiritual thoughts. Then only the mind will be expurgated of all worldly thoughts. The picture of Lord Jesus or Buddha or Lord Krishna is associated with sublime, soul-stirring ideas; chess and cards are associated with ideas of gambling, cheating and so forth.

Starting today, (October 4) one of the most incredible divine festivals in India will be running -- the Nine Days of Mother Divine. There will be homas, pujas, ceremonies, all kinds of incredible chanting and meditations going on all over India, especially in temples dedicated to the Divine Feminine.

It's a powerful time to really hook Her energy, to ask Her blessings, to receive Her grace. & -- for those who know those energy channels -- to connect directly with Her.

The first three days are usually dedicated to Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge & the Arts.

The second three are Maha Laxmi -- Prosperity.

The third three days celebrate Kali/Durga -- the fierce form of the Mother who was formed out of ALL the divine beings, gods, goddesses, rishis, angels, saints -- all the divine souls in creation -- in order to destroy a demon who was so powerful no one could tackle him single-handedly.

The tenth day -- this year, it'll be October 13th -- is called Vijaya Day -- Victory Day -- and it's the day where She finally killed that demon.

It's a hugely powerful day for manifestation and creation of whatever you deeply want in your life, especially on the spiritual level. It's a time of great cleansing and purification -- a 'victory' over the internal demons we all carry with us, a time to let Mother's love slay them and let them dissolve away.

When I lived in India, we would do intense fire homas and other ceremonies throughout the Navarathri but most especially on those last three days and the Vijaya Day.

As an interesting side note, when Shirdi Sai Baba took his mahasamadhi (ie, died), he did so on the Vijaya Day of Navarathri. When his friends and students begged him not to leave his body, his reply was, "Mother is calling -- I'm going." For those folks who know something about Shirdi Baba, the 13th is a GREAT time -- a highly auspicious time -- to access his energy through prayer and mantra.

Here in California, we'll be doing at least one MAJOR fire homa (healing fire ceremony) on the 13th October, on the Vijaya Day, in Boulder Creek.

We're expecting also to spend a good part of the time after the fire singing bhajans and kirtans, as they do in India, celebrating the glory of the Mother Divine. We'll also teach some Shirdi Baba mantras that really open the doorway to his energy channels.

This is my favorite time of the year -- nine powerful days of transformation and beauty.

If you have a statue or a photo or a picture of any form of the Mother Divine (whether it's Mary, Kuan Yin, Kali, Catholic female saints, Ammachi, whoever) -- you might put some flowers at Her feet, burn some incense and offer it to Her, make a circular motion around Her face with a candle flame and then take the flame to your eyes with your fingertips afterwards..... and ask Her for what you really want.....

and see what happens!!!!!!!

namaste!

(this is from Kaleshwar.org)

Baba’s birth name and the names of his parents are undocumented. Baba’s parents were simple villagers—his father was a boatman and his mother, a devoted housewife. She was also known to be a great devotee of Shiva, praying that He would grant her wish and be born as her child. Even though the couple remained childless after many years of marriage, her devotion never waivered, and she persisted in her prayers for a divine son.

An Incarnation of Shiva
One day, while her husband was ferrying passengers across the river, a huge storm came. It was clear to the wife that her husband was in mortal danger. As she stood watching with tears in her eyes, Shiva appeared and asked, “What do you want?” She said, “You have to come in my life as my son.” Shiva gave her a fruit and told her to eat it. At the same time her husband returned safely to shore. She told him of her divine experience showing him Shiva’s fingerprints on the fruit as proof. The husband became jealous, his jealousy increasing when his wife became pregnant. Determined that he, too, should have direct experience of the Lord, he decided to leave his wife and go to the forest to live and meditate. However, his wife did not want to be separated from him. Leaving the child in their hut, she went with her husband into the forest where they lived out the remainder of their lives, “receiving enlightenment from Shiva”, Swami Kaleshwar said.

A Muslim couple from a nearby village found the child and adopted him. One day, the boy was playing with the son of the local Hindu priest. As part of their game, the priest’s son brought a Shiva Lingam from the temple. Upon seeing it the boy immediately put it in his mouth and gleefully swallowed it. All the Muslims were outraged at his actions, which they felt were blasphemy. The Hindus as well were so deeply upset at the loss of the lingam, their sacred symbol, that they were determined to cut open the boy’s stomach and retrieve it.

Eventually everyone calmed down when the parents reminded them that he was adopted: they didn’t even know his birth name or whether he was actually a Hindu or a Muslim. Throughout the incident, the boy remained unconcerned. Soon after, he left home, taken by a fakir, who eventually brought the boy to the saint, Venkusa, who would become his master. In later years, Baba would freely quote from the sacred scriptures of both Islam and Hinduism. When asked whether he was in fact a Hindu or a Muslim he would reply, “The ways to God are many but God is one. Serve God. Serve each other. Love each other. This is God’s Way.” His life, from the very beginning, was a message to the world about the unity of all religions.

Baba stayed with Venkusa for 12 years. Because he received more attention from his master than the other disciples, the disciples became jealous and attempted to kill him by pummeling him with a brick. As the brick flew towards his head, Baba called out his master’s name and the brick miraculously stopped in mid-air thus Baba’s life was saved. Afterwards, the brick was given to Baba as a gift by Venkusa.

It became Baba’s power object, which he used as a pillow and kept with him until the last days of his life.

Baba -- as a beggar in the town of Shirdi -- used to hit up all the people walking in the village for just two rupees. sometimes, even if a person wanted to give him more money than two rupees, he would refuse it.

it's a deep mechanism -- he was really asking for only two things from the people -- Shradda and Sabbhuri -- 'faith and patience.'

(contrasted with later in his life, when he became famous as a healer and demanded thousands of rupees from people who wanted healing before he'd even talk to them! this was another deep mechanism -- burning peoples' karmas in the form of their money. if it was a stretch for them to get such huge sums of money, he would 'arrange' their life circumstances -- on the subtle -- that suddenly someone would lend them so much money, etc., and they were then able to pay him whatever he asked in exchange for healing. it's a deep principle in healing -- there should ALWAYS be an energy exchange between healer and healee. Western people have a really hard time with this concept because we prize money so much and are terribly suspicious of gurus who ask for it. )
