I have desperately been wanting to wear chopsticks in my hair, but with a barely chin length A-line bob, there is no way to get my hair up in anything more then a poof of a pigtail. So I decided to make my own buns!!

I can not be happier about how they turned out! I wore them to perform at Punk Raqs and they held all day with my three sets of small dreads and falls to create this odd creepy doll look. I got lots of compliments and I can't wait to wear them to pirate faire and other events. I am so making up some cool chopsticks for myself!

I also hope to start selling them in my etsy shop and at shows, but in the meantime I need more colors! I posted pictures and you can also see them on my Tribe!
Comments could be pm, personal pictures section, or on another topic.

I have been getting my hair cut short for a little over a year now. Recently (about the last 3 times) the new hairstylist has razor-cut my hair. I like the pixie-effect, but it makes it look fried after a week or so. I would like to ask her to NOT razor it next time.
Does razor cutting tear up really fine hair?
Any suggestions to make it not look fried and not look greasy at the same time (as most leave in conditioners do to my limp little locks)?
Thanks!

So here's a question: my hair's pretty short (obviously) but I love the way falls and beaded strands look on. Any ideas on how to attach them without it blatantly looking like their attached to a headband?

Planning on getting my hair cut again, and may very well go super short again. I let my hair grow out because I stopped working at the Salon and it can be expensive keeping up with a short cut. But I miss it, the long hair just isnt me. My hair is the longest that it has been in such a long time and I will admit it, part of me wants really long hair, but god the maintenance is about to kill me. I want to be able to roll out of bed and look good. I know that's alot to ask, but I have a 1 year old here. I am also afraid of what my new friends might think, they only know me with long hair. I know I'm the mod here but hey we all feel self conscience sometimes....

trying to decide to cut my hair

I don't have the longest hair in the world or the longest neck, either and I have a bit of a double chin. I have gotten it in my head (LOL) that I want to cut my hair in a '20s bob like Selma Blair in the latest INSTYLE magazine or like Colleen Moore, an authentic flapper. There are a couple of pictures in my profile that shows my hair as it is now. I really need some opinions from people who won't tell me what I want to hear, but will tell me an honest opinion about this. I'm not entirely the best judge because what "I" think looks good on me makes me end up looking like a pinhead. I am really not indecisive about this, I just need some opinions, good bad or indifferent. Thanks for your help and input.

Ok, so I LOVE my short hair, and I love performing in it. I usually just tie a scarf it in, hairspray up the back so it's a little spiky, and I'm good to go! And it's sassy and sexy!

Sometimes though, I think that having some more hair would really complete the whole costume, especially when I'm all girled up in bedlah. So I'm pondering the idea of investing in a good wig. Does anyone here ever wear a wig while performing cabaret style? Anyone have a favorite vendor or style?

I was perusing youtube for vids of short haired dancers and do you know what? There aren't any! There's plenty of videos of large guys with big bellies dancing though! Nothing against heavier guys (mmm, cuddly) but I didn't find what I was looking for! Anybody have links to what I AM looking for for reference? I currently have very short hair like Jamie Lee Curtis and though it looks good to me I'd like to see what it looks like from another point of view. Thanks for any help!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this tribe having newly cut off my super long hair to a chin bob with the back stacked.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I found these amazing clips at Sally. My hair is really straight and slick and most things will not hold. These hold well even with considerable weight. They are called snap clips or toupee clips and they look like this: http://s72.photobucket.com/albums/i192/oneswirlygrrl/costume%20odds%20and%20ends/?action=view&current=july07047copy.jpg

There are little holes you can use to sew things onto them and they stay flat to your head, unlike the little butterfly clips.

I'm so happy!

My hair looks like this at the moment.

Front:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h313/miss_godzilla/P7060001.jpg

Side:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h313/miss_godzilla/P7060002.jpg

Back:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h313/miss_godzilla/P7060003.jpg

I was trying to grow it out but it's not going to get any longer than it is right now according to my hairdresser since it is so fine. I'm getting a bit sick of it looking like a mop so I'm going to get it cut soon.

I would like my hair to be cut like this, maybe a bit longer.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h313/miss_godzilla/Misc/winona_ryder_hair_styles_bangsjpg.jpg

But with this fringe.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h313/miss_godzilla/Misc/03jpg.jpg

Yeah . . . I like weird hair. Does anyone think it would work? Or is it just too much of a juxtaposition of different styles? I think it would look cute but if anyone could give me advice before I do something silly that would be great.

Also, If I get hairfalls I should still be able to tie them on with slightly shorter hair shouldn't I?

Thanks. :)

Anyone have any success with modifying dreads that were for long hair and now into short? I have a set and they are on a strip of fabric... I just used to put a pony/bun in and tie them around it and arrange as requried to get necessary coverage. Soooooo looking for a method to modify that into a clip or something of that nature? Anybody done this yet or any thoughts?

Ok... well after some 2 years of having long hair (yeah yeah two years is nothing) I couldn't take it anymore and needed a change. so off came the hair, different than last time, but off it came. and I love it... so here I is, joining up because I started dancing after I grew my hair out so I have never played the game of hair falls and headpeices with short hair, so TA DA. I get to learn. Yeah for short hair, I had forgotten how much I love it!

Ok. That's my introduction! Just thought I would share and introduce myself a little bit. Busy playing hookie at work... damn job!

Newbie with a question on hairspray

Hello,

I'm really glad I found this community since apparently I cannot grow my hair past shoulder length (it is very fine and just sort of gives up/breaks under it's own weight). So I'll be very glad for tips on hair pieces/pretty decorations etc.

I do tribal style bellydance which means if I want to I can wear a turban to cover my hair, but I am pretty much stuck as to what to do in the way of pretty up-do's when my hair is uncovered . I really like the way my hair looks curled, but unfortunately yet again because my hair is so fine styles never stay and curls drop out really quickly.

Can anybody suggest a good hairspray for keeping curls in? Or any other way of cheating?

Thanks.

- Meredith

I went to a fundraiser one time that was to benefit a woman in our dance community who had breast cancer. She recovered and a fer months later fate had it that I was at her first performance after her recovery. She came out and did an awesome veil dance hiding her head until the middle of the performance where she very dramatically revealed her sexy unadorned silver crew cut. I thought that it was kind of neat that her short hair was the highlight of the performance.

keeping long bangs under control

Hello all- I just found this tribe, yay!

I was just wondering about what do to with long bangs... you know, the kind where you have the side part and they kind of sweep across your forehead, brow and land on the cheek some where? (Can you tell I know very little about hair styling?) I was just wondering how you keep those under control while you dance. If I leave mine loose, as they are in ordinary life, they flop all over my face, which looks bad and is annoying. In the pictures, I notice some of you do have them out (not pinned back). How do you keep them looking neat? Thanks!

As you can probably tell by my picture, I have practically no hair right now. I'm looking for some suggestions for tribal "hair" ornaments for someone with none? Until recently I actually had hair, so I'm kind of at a loss. I dance tribal fusion mostly, so I think a turban would look odd with most of my costumes, so I'm looking for something that will work. Any ideas?

If any of you would love to cooperate please let me know through tribe or send it to eleyda@navelmagazine.com with the subject: Short Hair.

I'm thinking about getting my hair cut shorter

Right now I have hair about shoulder length. I'm thinking about cutting it shorter a'la variation of Victoria Beckham but maybe not that short. What can I do with my hair for performing? I have been wearing what I fondly refer to as "spare hair" which is VERY curly. I still like the curly look for performing, but I don't know if my hair will be long enough to put in a ponytail to put it up. Suggestions??
Thanks

Hello,

I'm Dina, currently living in Japan with access to those crazy Japanese styles. :)

Anyways my question is, about curly hair. I was wondering if there would be some suggestions on what I could do with it for belly dance. I usually pull it back in a bun or pony tail it comes to my shoulders. Or I put a hand band in it to keep it off my face. It's kind of bland I think. Besides the frizz that gets out of control. Buahhaha and I'm using Frizz-Ease and mousse! Thanks in advanced!!!!
Hair Suggestions for Short-Haired Gals

Hi all! I just found this tribe--I was pointed towards it after posting in the "Makeup and Hair for Dancers" and "Tribal Costuming" tribes. So, here's the post I made in those tribes:

"I've noticed that the vast majority of tribal bellydancers have long hair. I myself have VERY short hair, mainly due to the fact that it's hotter than hell in Arizona (even in October, as I type this in the early evening, it's still 86 degrees out!), and frankly, it's just easier to deal with on a day-to-day basis. I think it also looks better with my particular face shape. I've seen a few pictures of ladies with short hair and how they arrange all their "stuff" in their hair, but I'd like to get some more input and suggestions from the gals who have short hair--what do YOU do to get all your cowrie tassels, flowers, etc. in your hair? (And to get it all to stay?!) And what are some of your favorite things to put in your hair as a short-haired woman? Thanks in advance for your advice and whatnot. :)"

As mentioned in that post, I'm especially looking to get flowers (fake, so I can re-use them) and cowrie tassels in my hair. Hair falls would be nice, too. Looking through the photos in this tribe, I've seen a few ideas I like, but if anyone's got more pictures, I'd love to see them. The more stuff you can pack in your hair, the better!

Thank you Serpatine for letting me post this here.
Hello ladies, I am posting about my cousin. Her name is Brittany Hart, she is 24 years old. She lives in the Santee area outside of San Diego. She was last seen leaving for work last Thursday morning. Her bank records show that she stopped for gas on her way, but never showed up to work. She actually works two jobs and has not shown for either one. She has not accessed her bank account since she stopped for gas. Her cell phone goes directly to voice mail. She is a college graduate, a smart girl, and this is not in her character. The Santee Sheriff Dept. has officially launched an investigation.
Please send your thoughts and energies her way for a safe return, and if you could please pass this on I would appreciate it. You can go to my blog to see her missing poster, and I am including the link to the news video.
Also, if you google Brittany Hart missing, it will bring up all the news stories, sheriff reports and web postings about this.

www.kusi.com/home/7778787.html

Thanks in advance for any way that you help. Even just passing this on can help.

Since I've quit my Egyptian dance company, I no longer need to hide my shortish hair. If anybody wants a long auburn wig, I'll give it away for free. It's well used, still looks good on stage though. Its fake, so you'd have to take it to a wig shop to have it reset. All I ask is that you pay shipping.

I got a wild hair (ha ha) and shaved my head. It's actually quite flattering on me, much better than the thinning hair I had. But it's a bit samey, and I'd like to think of wacky things to do now that I have all this bare skin to adorn. At present I have bandanas, and a beanie that's made of fishnet mesh with a few sequins on it. But I need new ideas!

What do you think? I haven't been dancing since I shaved my head (about a month ago) but I'm planning on starting a new class soon.

Hi Everyone,

My name is also Tempest (I saw pics of my fellow Tempest on here). She had her name first, but it was just a cooinkidink that I took that name as well (it's a cool name and she seems uber cool too)
I live in Doral Florida and ive been dancing for a little under a year.

Anyway, call me Tempest-can or Tempest or what have you.
I decided to join this tribe because I am going to cut my hair. Most likely today...

I had pretty long hair just two weeks ago. Reaching the bottom of my shoulder blades.
My hairdresser, though bringing my damaged hair back from the brink, botched my haircut.
It's not touching the top of my shoulder blades.
Ive always had this sorta phobia about cutting my hair-I did it once years ago to get over the fear but it's never completely left me.

I came on here to meet other cool bellydancers who have short hair. Ive been t old over and over to not cut my hair. Ive had the blessing of working with an amazing dancer like Ansuya who's known for her beautiful long hair.
But Ive been wanting, DYING, to cut it for a year or more already.

So i'm going to do it!

So this seems like the perfect place for me to pick up tips on how to still look awsome with short hair as a tribal fusion bellydancer.

Whoever founded this site, it's a great idea!

So with a gulp and a deep breath, wish me luck! (will post before and after pics when I take the plunge)

Wigs!

<<ducks and then peeks out to see if it's safe to continue...>>

It has come to my attention (delicately, from my hesitant-to-broach-the-subject-but-brave troupe leader) that a number of potential bellygrams have slipped through my texturizer-covered fingers lately. People have asked for a dancer who fits my description with one expection--they specifically ask for someone with long hair.

Until recently I've been unwilling to wear a hairpiece but... I'll give something new a try. It would certainly open my performing avenues a bit.

What experiences do you all have with wigs... suggestions, do's & don't's, suppliers...? My hair is currently long enough to take bobby pins to help secure the darn thing to my head. :)

So, I'm disgruntled. I cut my hair off super short a couple months ago, yeah? Totally was digging it, and I still like it short, am having fun with it and such. BUT... I am not able to do falls very well. I can make two little pigtails that I can sorta kinda wrap elastic falls into, but it's way messy and sloppy and... Is the trick just lots and lots of hair gel, bobbi pins and scarves over the head? What do you guys do? I was considering taking my old Elysee Star dreads and sewing them into some sort of headband thing that I can tie over my head (since I won't be re-installing the dreads for months while I wait to see what job I get, etc). Like, tacking them down on a wide piece of fabric, sewing another piece of fabric over that to "encase" them, leaving long ends and tying it on like a scarf. Has anyone done something like this? I vaguely seem to remember someone saying something about it... anyway. Looking for ideas for fun hair...

My hair is short. I have worn various hair pieces, bands, hair falls etc., which are not really me. I have tried a hair piece in the pony style falling from the back and also worn forward across a hair band but still cannot find much that I like, suit and find comfortable to wear. I like my hair style and am looking to enhance my existing hair style for when I dance. I do love hair adornments so, any ideas?

I shaved most of my hair off back in June and again in August for charity (I raised $2000 and donated 20" of hair). So I am going through the dreaded growing out stage. I debated shaving it again but its just too cold so instead I got a new style. Thing is they used a pommade on it and I have never used one before. I tried to use a spiking mouse but it just doesn't look as good.

Next I need to find a few head pieces to play with my new spikey hair. Or some other ideas.

I just cut my hair about a week ago, and colored it last Friday night. I love it so much. It is guarded on the left side and fades into the longer part (which is still pretty short) on the right side.

Just wanted to drop a note and say that I am flattered to have my pic up here!

...on what to do about growing my hair back. What sort of hair cuts/shapes have people cultivated in the past when coming back from a fully shaven head?

Anyone been there? I'm hoping to avoid the goofy hair at that awkward length since I perform regularly. Eventually, I want to grow my hair back to below my shoulder blades, but what do I do in the meantime? One suggestion I am considering is extensions - I'm just not sure what they're like, where to get 'em and how much I should save up.

Any other suggestions or ideas would be great! :)

I'm growing my hair out a little so I can (hopefully) add some falls in September. It'll be my first public performance. I'm thinking it'll be between 3 and 5 inches by then.
My hair is SUPER thin; stuff just slides RIGHT out of it. I'm thinking of using gel or some kind of texturiser to help keep stuff stuck in it.

Has anybody tried this? Any other ideas?

My hair is cut in a mohawk! the top sections being about two inches long, and baby fine, it's a fun haircut, but I love getting peoples ideas about what to do with ultra short hair.

There's a couple pics in the tribe album and some more pics in my profile. Already having tons of fun with it, can't wait to play more. I had to fight from buying these incredibly cute little glittery star hair clips tonight... I may go back for them tomorrow. :-)

Tempest... what an inspiration

Tempest:
I just had the workshop with you in Buffalo this past week! Ok, the dancing and costuming were incredible (even if I look like I am trying to suppress hiccups while conveying to the audience that I want to eat them for lunch....and we won't even touch what I look like when I am trying to roll my eyes back in my head during Sashi's choreography!) But the biggest inspiration I got was your hair!!!!

No matter what haircutt I get -If I try to keep an element of "safe" and don't just take the plunge I end up looking like suzie soccer mom...(which was the cause for much amusement at the 'atlernative club' where the show was... man did I stick out like a sore thumb- and my white outfit didn't help either). But after taking your workshop and seeing you dance, I say @#$% it! Im chopping off Suzie Soccer Mom's head..... I want short short and no where near safe....

So thank you thank you thank you!!!

~Oolima

PS I will still however look like I am battling hiccups.... some times it is just not worth fighting "cute"....**sigh**

I am working with a designer/pattern maker on a new dress for dance performance. My style of dance is contemporary I suppose if you want to put a label on it. I’m not certain what the dress will be like just yet but I am thinking of wearing something in my hair too. I have very short hair but it is thick, so clips stay in reasonably well. Does anyone have any ideas? Any photographs?

About five weeks ago I cut off the hair you see in my profile pic and now have a layered, jaw length cut similar to what I had when I started studying this dance. The motivation? I couldn't get my retouch done and I needed it done badly! I got so upset that I realised it was not worth this amount of grief to keep long dark hair - so I cut it, and I'm in the process of growing out my roots.

My hair is about 80 percent white.

At the moment I'm toying with going even shorter, so as to get rid of the terrible skunk stripe look as quickly as I can, but I don't want to go totally short.

you know, it's been a couple of years since I cut my hair short, and of course now, it's even shorter..yet I still have this urge when dancing to toss my hair around. I think I need to join HTA ---Hair Tossers Anonymous, cause I'm sure it doesn't look exactly brilliant ;)))

And especially now, it's like I can lift it up from the back either...

Must learn new short hair tricks ;)

I am at a loss for words, This is so heartbreaking to me and my friends. I wonder if the animals have figured out that thier gardian angel has passed. If you have anything to say about this horrible accident please feel free to post, but lets remember he was a great man, concervationist, father, and soul.

I have ear-length hair that is in the process of growing out. I'm one of those poor souls stuck in the cut off/grow out/awkward length/cut off cycle... But I know I look great with short hair, and as it gets longer, I'm considering hacking it all off again. Trouble is, it's very fine, thick, and slick. That means nothing stays put! How do you ladies keep your lovely scarves, headbands and flowers firmly attached to your heads?

let it grow?

Hello,

I am thinking, all my life I had belly-dance perfect long, thick hair, I could pass for a walking haystack or hairstack or whatever. I cut it and a little later started to take up bellydance.
I am so glad I am rid of that weight, the work washing it, and I think it suits me better.
But then again it's nice to feel your own long hair, pull it when talking. And now, when dancing it could be so much fun to whirl it around...I think for the ATS-dancers it is ok because they can put so much deco-stuff on their heads and I haven't seen them play with their hair in the way an egyptian style dancer would...
I wouldn't want to wear a whig, I think it doesn't look good.
So I let it grow just a bit, maybe down to the shoulders. And then I go cut it again!
Does anyone share my dilemma?

I just got my hair cut again this week. It's even shorter than last time, just alittle extra stuff in the front/sides. That same bald guy made some comment about how soon I was going to look like him. Then she looked at my hair good and hard and said" I guess it looks nice". I just let it go . I don't give a shit about his opinion. I certainly didn't ask him for it. I guess it just pisses me off that he would even tell me.
The next day another guy noticed my hair cut and went on and on about how good it looked. He said that he loved very short hair on women. He said it was (in a sexy-turned on voice) "nasty". I felt like a dominatrix. I've been on a sexy power trip ever since.
I've decided that the only opinions that matter are the ones that make me feel good! why not?

I found this tribe thanks to Judith whom I adore and I love her short hair! What great comments throughout! I was married to a Japanese hair stylist from Tokyo. He was a famous stylist in Japan. He did models hair for shoots, runway shows, and newscasters and guests before they went on camera. He worked with some very beautiful women (zap) and he was very handsome.(just had to put that in) He could really cut a head of hair. In Japan, they don't let you touch a head of real hair (client) for a year while training. The schooling is very extensive often 5 or more years, then apprenticeship. He studied with "Yes George" from Tokyo. (equivalent to Vidal Sassoon) They study the shape of the head and designed a cut that is "most flattering". He said Sassoon (used in most USA schools) was a square cut for men modified for women and would never do. His style was rounder, fitted to the head and perfect. He would say to me all the time, "It's not the hair Karla-chan, it's the cut." It was a lot of fun living with a man who was interested in making women feel and look great and meeting all the people who counted on him to make them look good. The great thing about hair is that it keeps growing and if your hair falls out you can put someones donated hair on! (donate your hair) How cool is that? He said short hair is very sexy, it frames the face and shows the nap of the neck and he is right! Make sure you know who is cutting your hair and ask where they went to school. Do they have a portfolio? Be prepared to spend more on a good cut, it is worth it. Just my morning coffee spew whilst waiting for the day to continue....LOL

I'm new to tribe net and wanted to comment on how happy I am that other bellydancers have short hair. I am looking to attach hair to a head wrap....probably synthetic braids, but I have seen some great dreads done with yarn....wool of course. Anyone have any suggestions as to braids or dreads?

1. I love getting my hair cut. I would get a cut every week, except then I really would be bald and broke!
2. I'm still digging my gray. It's like having a new color.
3. I enjoy the whole bellydance costuming hair-doo thing. If I had the nerve I'd wear my headbands with the silk flowers to work.
4. I like wearing a hat without it messing up my hair.
5. Product.
6. Tiny clips.
7. No shower drain clogs.
8. When I hit myself in the head with a flamming poi it really doesn't matter.

These are a few things about my hair that bring me joy. I thought it might be nice to share with you guys instead of my usual venting.

Hi I'm new here, but you guys are just what I have been looking for!

Ok, I cut my hair - now what?? (think Cleopatra with an edge) My hair is straight and falls just about to my earlobes. the problem is that it is THIN... It won't even hold a tiny rubber band or even a clip with teeth. If I wear a scarf or headband with elastic it just rides up the back of my head and pops off... I have some luck with "baby" hair accessories that are real tiny, but they only come in sparlkly pastels....
I lean more towards a cabaret style (but not necessarily glittery bra and belt)...maybe glittery tribal fusion? who knows... But I like sparkle.

I have done the whole wig, hairpeice, fall thing, and honestly, I LIKE my short hair and don't want to cover it up!

Any creative ideas for a headpeice that will stay in shorter hair???
anyway, anybody have any ideas about turning a regular ol' headband into something??

~Oo

Ps I look damn good if I do say so myself.... dance hair be damned!

So, people freaked out a bit on me when I cut off my long hair about 2 years ago to go to a flapper's style bob. They whined "why don't you just get a wig?!" --cause they're HOT and don't always stay put, and I'm an active dancer! Plus, dreadfalls and California water had wreaked havoc upon my hair. Cutting it short was the best thing I ever did...if I really need long hair for something, I've discovered a 3/4 cap does stay in place well, even for a Zar...but I wanted shorter! I found one semi-local gal who could cut my hair, but she couldn't take it to the edge I wanted....and then I was finally able to get an appt with Lana (http://www.lanaland2.com), and thanks to her, I got the best haircut of my life. It's VERY short in the back, which just enough length upfront, and so easy to style and alter the look!

The first pix I have of it are from my DVD project, but when I get back home (I'm still on the east coast at the moment), I'll post some of the back...here's a teaser: http://worlddancenewyork.com/catalog/bdbf/index.html

Dear Girls and all, Last week I went to get more cutting and the hair cutter says " you won't be very feminine", she was not hostile and has short hair, too, so I had to laugh and told her that I was not asking for a sex change, just a hair cut and assured her that my femininity would remain intact no matter how much she cut. And then when I got to work, I fielded many compliments and comments such as : " Gee, I wish I could have short hair, but my husband wouldn't like it", " I wish I had the nerve to cut my hair," , " I'll bet that saves time", yup

I'm trying not to be nasty....

Okay... today I got to hear, once again from some man, that he doesn't really like short hair (on women). I told him, "that's because your a sexist Neanderthal". I have other reasons for calling this guy that as well, this just added to it. I should have said that I have short hair so men like you won't perfer me. I realize people have preferences and whatnot... but why do men feel the need to let me know what they like. Are we all suposed to care what they think? Are we supossed to take that into consideration when we goto the hairdressers? Do these men think women have long hair to please them. Is short hair threating to men? The best part is that this guy is bald! I've never walked up to him and said that I perfer men with hair.
Anyway, I'm sorry to rant. I just can't get over it since I hear this from men on a regular basis...and I never have once asked them for their opinion in the first place. I was wondering if anyone else has to deal with hair critisicm from the general public? I've also noticed that when my hair was long that people in general were nicer to me. Is this just me???

I was told " Stop Cutting Your Hair"

One of my best and favorite dancing buddies told me to " Stop Cutting Your Hair" , the other night. I laughed and told her that I was thinking about shaving my head. She was horrified. Short hair has been a blessing and a freedom and really has not presented any problems for dancing except in the eye of those who have other expectations. I do not have any hair to whip around on the floor , and it never gets stuck to my lipstick or cheek or in my eyes. But, I love getting creative with headwear. Turbans, fake locks, etc... If I had the time back that I spent tending and trying to "fix" my hair when it was long, I would have many years to just enjoy the dance. I have been told many times by longer haired women that I am lucky that I can wear short hair. So Cut it...says I.

Short hair for a cabaret belly dancer...

I have short hair and I perform cabaret style belly dance. Sometimes I think it's easier for tribal dancers to get away with short hair because it can look great with their whole style. Plus they get to wear falls and flowers, etc. I put extensions in my hair once and I took them out after a week! (They gave me such a headache) Does anyone have short hair suggestions more fitting for caberet style? I need ideas until my hair grows out...
Thanks!

Ok, I don't have short hair (I've went chin-length a couple of times, but no shorter. I've got a really big, lumpy noggin.:) ), but I'm often jealous of women who can carry off short hair, especially REALLY short hair. Molly, a friend of mine, has such a beautiful face and gorgeous eyes that she can shave her head, which she does from time to time, and maintain her femininity and grace. Not to mention, she just looks kick ass. I always love how women with really short hair can tossle it up and get a really edgy spiked look, or slick it back and go all Great Garbo. I find most of these women have a self-confidence and candor about them that is refreshing. They don't have any veil they hide behind, and they don't need or want it, either. They are on display for the world, like it or not! :) It takes courage to go short, and I applaude the bad-ass girls who do it!

Any other glitter tips? Safety dos or don'ts (like for not getting it in your eyes--duh but you never know with me!), best holds, etc...?

I am soooo excited to see that soooo many people have joined this tribe. I hope was to reach out and create a sisterhood between belldancers with short hair and those that love the bellydancers with short hair. I have posted a few pictures in the album, I would love to hear comments on them. Just be aware that we are here for constructive critique. Please dont use this as a way to be rude, just treat others the way that you would like to be treated. But that being said, I do want to hear some ideas from you all. Some problems that you are having, what you would like to do with your hair. So come discuss......

I will be on a camping trip until Sunday so I will not have access to the puter. But I hope to be able to read alot of new posts on here when I return.......

Hooray for this tribe! Just found it. Short-haired dancer reporting for duty. :) I've had long hair... I love long hair... just not on me. My hair is fine and thin, and when it's long it just looks lank, and breaks off not much past my shoulders. NOT beautiful and flowing and swingy at all.

But it makes me sad that I can't do some of the hairstyles... so I'm here for advice and inspiration.

My personal successes? I have a string of small flowers I wear from one ear to the next, headband style, that's really cute. I really like that headband look with really short, spiky hair...I discovered it when I was just growing my hair out after shaving it, at that awkward stage where it's longer than a brush-cut but still too short to really style. I also discovered the other week at dance that I could keep a set of yarn falls (fairly light ones, albeit) in my teensy-tiny ponies without them flying off or hurting too much... just have to figure out some kind of scarf-wrapping so my real hair doesn't look too weird since most of it doesn't reach the ponytails. I've got a couple of pics I'd like to put in the gallery, too, if ya don't mind. :)

Hi Ladies,

Got my first performance this coming Saturday, and I'm still clueless about my boring hair. I've been practicing makeup too and can't get it dark enough. I don't want to spaz out too much out it, it's still just first time and a student troupe thing, but I want to feel gorgeous. Maybe I'll get a kid to take a pic of my hair later.

Look forward to ideas on this tribe.

Do You Have Enough?

Women with short hair sometimes forget that they can use hair accessories just as well as women with long hair. You can totally change the look with a few fancy pins, barrettes or a headband.
