i bought another skoolie. i got it from greg.he made me an offer i couldn't refuse :)) it's a 1989 thomas saf-t-liner. it has 3208 cat, air brakes. it only has 25,xxx miles. good tires. the last three years it was used to convey spectators to/fro the pits at indy.
although i knew i had another skoolie in me i thought it was a couple years in the future. i just couldn't pass up the low mileage. it may set a couple years before i can get around toit. of course i'll convert to wvo as well as convert to motorhome. goto greasebus and see my innovative ideas on the subject.
it seems that the grease community is populated by a buncha rube goldbergs just like the skoolie movement. mostly crooks complicating a simple subject so they can sell thier complicated solutions.
i have simplified it greatly. i'll post photos when i gettem.

new bus arrived friday. WOW! it's way better than i expected/dreamed. whoa baby! drives and rides like a caddy. didn't burn a drop of oil from ohio to here. not a spot of oil in the engine compartment or on the engine which still looks nearly new. the million mile odometer says 24,xxx. nearly new tires. clean as a whistle underside. mt643 allison , air brakes. roof hatch. wheelchair/motorcycle/4x4 lift. three doors. two hatch windows. underbody storage. big openable rear window.... i'm getting dizzy!

nearly new radio. digital am/fm school band two way in dash. has old CB mount. four nice overhead speakers. tubeless tires. brakes need adjusting.. parked on rock shelf. hasn't stopped raining since.
need help with the floorplan. having difficulty envisioning one that doesn't entail closeing off at least one door. i def wanna floor front stairwell and put in navigators seat. think i'll remove the stairwell too since it's the main thing that hangs up in the FORWARD CONTROL configuration. that means a step up and handle like a big rig. and SIDE door entrance. i still hate to remove an asset like the lift. can lift anything. water. small 4x4 ( in case i ever do go prospecting) motorcycle etc. it's just soooo frikken HEAVY and awkward. if i remove it and make an airstair it would still be a short door. like entering an old airplane./.
the roof hatch is in middle of bath. any ideas there? 2ft x 8ft underbody box. more than enough for my tools and a fuel tank. asap i will get several cans rust converter, spray silicone and a large can of 3 in 1 and a squirtcan of 30w and a greasegun. i'll crawl under over and through it using them as needed. when it dries up that is. then coat roof with buscoat. i'm in no hurry to remove seats. i prefer to get it tip top running focusing on fuel effeciency and paint outside first. then i'll insure/license filters/fluids. maybe by fall i'll actually be driving it regular.

turns out the radio is a REI 320. it's a stereo am/fm/pa not a school radio. the CB mount was actually for the school radio.
haven't been able to do anything yet. raining every day. however the suspense got the best of me and i did crawl around in the MUD under it for a few minutes. needs shocks. they seem to be working ok but the shrouds are rotted . so are the front backing plates. don't think thats a problem though. i'll coat with rust converter and paint.
do you think it'll be a problem?
found a hose underneath that was kinked. some yahoo put it on around instead of through a bracket. the hose was obviously a factory part that had zero slack to work with. it was an air hose. hope i find the same thing with power steering line. didn't have time to look good.
the rear shocks are ok. they have rubber covers.
no sign of any leaks anywhere underneath. boy is thomas serious about brakes. has THREE airbrake systems. one for the front brakes. one for the rear. and a third for the parking brake.
