Alright i have wanted to make a skoolie for a while now but the problem is i can't find any cheeps buses in my area... if anybody knows where to find a cheep old bus either school or city in the san diego area let me know... i tried calling the Transit system down here but they were not very helpful. Was thinking of calling the department of education to see if i can get a bus through them. Any ideas would be great :) i tried e-bay but all the ones i have seen are either mid west or east coast and i am in the military so i don't have a ton of money or time to fly some place and drive the bus back... also a person i saw in one at a campground who owns a skoolie said that you can drive them with just a regular class C licenses is that true or is he just pulling my chain? Also can you bring them into state parks and national parks... i know that a lot of national parks have a size limits on the size of the RV you can bring in so was wondering about that as well. Thank you for all your help in advance =)

I would keep checking Ebay--- you never know when one will turn up in your area. Click on "advanced search", put "bus" in search field and enter a mile-radius you want to search from your zip code. Leaving other key words out of search will yield more results---- even if you don't find a bus there, your results may include local dealers/individuals who know where to get them.
Ebay also has a feature called "Want It Now"--- you specify what you WANT and it somehow makes its way to sellers. You could type up a paragraph stating where you are and what condition school bus you are looking for (I'd probably leave out price, in case someone has one cheaper than your "suggested price", but you could address the price issue by stating a cut-off, year-wise, e.g "probably can't afford a bus newer than x year").

I'd call local auction companies, the ones that run ads in the newspaper every week auctioning off estates and misc private property. They often do auctions for vehicles as well--- and even if they aren't the ones handling the fleet or bus auctions (they very well might not be involved in that), they may have info about who does it. Call the city and county Maintenance Dept and ask when/where they auction off their older vehicles. No, those aren't buses, but once you get to the guy who handles that (plan on having your call transferred x number of times before you get the right person...standard buracracy), he may also know about some bus auctions. I'd call the local school districts and ask how to contact "the people who maintain the school buses". They will know. Also try Craigslist.org--- if your ad title is something like "Help me find old school bus in San Diego" someone with some info will probably respond. Good luck!
