Hey all,
I've been trying to research and look for legitimate wholesale suppliers. I don't mean the E-bay people and I don't mean the ones online who "claim" to be wholesale or dropshippers and I don't mean the liquidators that you have to purchase by the pallet or more.
I live in Los Angeles and have gone downtown a few times but since I work during the week and our retail venture is still really small and very new within the retail store that my husband works at I'm only available on the weekends and the Gift Mart and Cal Mart are not open on the weekends.
I like handcrafted items, gifty items, small colletibles, and such. I've found a some crafters that will sell their wares at discounted/wholesale but usually even those prices are slightly high for our market.
Also, our space is very very limited; we have about 60 - 75 sq ft within a store with total (including storage, counter, bathroom, & office) of about 750 sq ft. We cannot afford $wise nor space wise to have to purchase large quantity of items and often I find $500 minimums, occasionally $250 or $300 minimums but still that is usually too much quantity for us as well as straining our budget right now.
If anyone has ideas or suggestions or links I would appreciate your suggestions. Thank you.

Re: Legitimate wholesale suppliers
Wed, February 27, 2008 - 4:56 PMif you could be more specific about what you are looking for, I might be able to help.
I live and work in Los Angeles, specializign helping crafty startups, and moderate teh Crafty Vixens tribes (including Crafty Vixens Pro and Crafty Vixens Retailers groups), so I have a whole lot of resources for you, I am sure.
Tell me what quantities, prices, and terms you are looking for. I can help you find these, how to put out notices for these, and how to negotiate terms with some of your favorite vendors.
I believe that retailers and wholesalers want to get together adn that somewhere there is a right fit for everyone.
Sincerely,
Jo Ann VIllalobos

Wed, February 27, 2008 - 7:01 PMyou may need to go to Asia if you want wholesale knick knacks and such.
************handcrafted items [...] small colletibles, ****************
By definition wouldn't be the subject of wholesale I should think. -

Wed, February 27, 2008 - 8:23 PMJo Ann, I'm also on the Crafty Vixen tribe and I've thought about contacting you. I will send you a PM soon.
Cliff, I know (I've seen) that even those that do handcrafted items when they want to expand and have people carry their items will sell to retailers at wholesale prices. -

Re: Legitimate wholesale suppliers
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 4:26 PMI guess I was using my idea of "wholesale." Ya know, large volumes.
I think like a factory sometimes. If ya look close ya can even see the smoke belching out.

Re: Legitimate wholesale suppliers
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 7:40 PMnope. not all wholesale sales are through factories, cliff.
small crafters usually carry a "cash cow" product that they want to sell in volume to bring in an income stream to support development of future products... those are usually good to wholesale out.
