I feel the same way about these sorts of things as I do about business clubs that are exclusively for males.

is this a network about women-owned businesses or something exclusive to women?

I have no problem with niche groups like this one. Well, I guess since there are more women in the world, this is not really a niche group - but you get the idea.

People should use every asset and advantage that they can get to survive and succeed in business - and a women's group is no different.

Keep in mind, Cliff - small businesses need as much assistance as they can get, so if someone wants to be part of a mens/womens/Xian/Jewish/white/black-only gorup? Fine with me.

Sure, Andrew, I agree. Any group that shares a certain set of challenges/mindset/strengths can help each other by talking about what works for them. In networking and sharing information, I've learned a lot from both men and women this last year but the information I get from women is much more about the inner work of being responsible for yourself. Which I really need.

I purchase from/hire people that provide what I need at a good cost. Often enough that business is women-owned but I don't choose them that way.

MARKETING to women is different .
We have other ways of looking at things and people have made entire careers at specializing in this

So why not business women and business development/

Why not indeed. Because "separate but equal" is failed policy that is best left abandoned.
I disapprove of disparate treatment based on any immutable characteristics.

Hmmm. Obviously you've never attended a women's business function (since you're a guy), but have you ever opened one of the Ladies Who Launch books or other women's business books? The only thing that really makes it different is the talk about balancing family and social life, and other primarily female issues with business life. Nothing about special treatment. It's really not that big of a deal. We just have other issues that most men do not have to think about.

So, just in case I am reading into all of this without knowing anything important from the original thread that was deleted, sorry if I'm way off base. I'm just commenting on the present comments.

since when is "balancing family and social life" a woman's issue?

how is that "primarily female" or do the "women's business books" just say it is?

I think you should just try reading one of the books by Caitlin Friedman and Kimberly Yorio or the "Ladies who Launch" book. You'll see that there is a slight difference between "regular" books and the ones geared towards women. Personally I like the way they're written better than the traditional books.

Lighten up on this issue. There's a market for it, I'm a regular customer of it, it helps me, so it's not big deal. Nothing to waste your time arguing about, at least.

            I gotta ditto Lobo here.

I raised my two daughters as a single father from their pre-teen years.
There was no one but me. I had to balance.

The original thread was deleted because it was just an advert that was cross posted and the original poster failed to come back and make the case for it's non-deletion after being given ample opportunity.
I took it to have been nothing more than spam 'cause if she'd really meant to engage this tribe she'd have bothered herself to return when her home page showed hits.

I sub posted what I did hoping that Sandy would explain her post a little more.

    She hasn't .

Does any one know whether Sandy has a history of posting in this tribe or of she just joined to post that one post - which might have been better as a "listing."

I'm fairly open to longer term more active members breaking the TOU requirement that listings be posted as listings and not topics. However, I'm pretty closed minded when people join just to post once about something they want to promote.

I'm getting to that place where I delete this one. Any one care to intervene?

well that's one clear positional statement - and one I agree with too.

Ah, I don't know if it matters either way. It's not like this is a rampant problem.

That said, I don't think that anyone cares one way or another.

On the other hand, perhaps future members of this group will be interested in the topic and expand on the point.

Your notice of this wee infraction should be enough notice to allow for you to delete the next thread that is similar if your worry is consistency.

I'm late. I clicked on this thread b/c I personally love business books/organizations geared towards women, b/c, well I am one. Why was it deleted? What was it about? And while I'm asking all these questions, what's the big deal about women's business organizations?

the initial spam posting said "I want to tell you about a new business women's networking site coming next week" and then there was never any follow up. never even listed the site url.

it was basically non-information, but the discussion that ensued is interesting, so it is good that was kept.
