Get yourself a good web designer. Maybe a good graphics artist too.
You haven't articulated what "profession" you are practicing.
Law, Medicine, Education, Theology, Nursing~? There aren't very many professions, but, whatever it is if you have your site designed to speak to your audience it'll be better than not.

I had a site for a while but I took it down because more than anything else it got idiots to call me and ask how to to it themselves..

It's a garden/nursery business. I'm an artist so I plan to scan and photoshop my own stuff. My fiancee and partner in this particular avenue of the business is studying tutorials on Dreamweaver and Front Page. We haven't a clue what we're doing.. I'm a fairly strong writer so it will be a rotating series of articles and photos with relevant ads and links (also links to good educational sites and non-profits) riding along.

In all honesty, Marial - you can't do a page in Dreamweaver or Front Page that will suit your needs at this point. Well, that's not true, I should have said that it is rather difficult to create a page that is professional enough if you are just learning to use those programs. What I would suggest is a simple site using frames that should suffice, but what Cliff said is true. The time that it'd take you to figure out how to use those programs you can spend a grand on a young graphic designer who will do a frames-only page for you, to which you can then easily make changes.

If you do have a designer make the site - DO NOT DO FLASH. If you do, it is very difficult for a newbie to change the flash when you want to add more images and content, unless the programmer has done one hell of a job allowing server-side additions, and I doubt that you'd get that without spending more money than you want to spend. Plus, even if you did - to change it dramatically (which is relatively easy using frames), you'd have to either pay that designer to re-do the flash, or have someone else start from scratch.

        Good luck.

I'd suggest that you go to this page: biznik.com/ and then click on the "San Franciso" link, and then join on up. Once there, you can see if you can find someone within any budget that you are able to put together to create a simple frame page for you. Once you have some income coming in, you can then grow the page as you wish.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.
