I'd appreciate help promoting (and developing) my retreat www.baldmountainretreat.com.
I'm interested in paying customers (corporations, individuals...) as well as donating the space to non-profit groups.
Networking ideas, etc are very welcome.
Random ideas or long-term associations.
Thanks.
All good things,
Dr Dave

Re: seeking ideas to promote my/our Vermont retreat
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 4:04 PMI’m always up for networking and exchanges but you currently have snow and this reptiles goes “eeeek!”
Anyways…. The best type of promotion online is called SEM Search Engine Marketing. This is what I do (I’m a beginner). Anther best is SEO Search Engine Optimization. SEO is using tags in your website to get noticed by Google, MSN and AOL ect…
Other great ways to promote
Link exchanges
Banner exchanges
Networking
Exchanging free services / products for exchange of advertising
Blog about things happening in your area such as festivals and holidays and make sure to have a link to your website.

Re: seeking ideas to promote my/our Vermont retreat
Thu, November 15, 2007 - 11:39 AMTo get up at the front in Google search results:
Have all your friends google the living daylights out of your website using all the typical search terms your customer base might use and have them click the hyperlinks for your site.
Within a few months your site will be tops on the Googls free search results and it'll stay that way for a while.
It also helps to have lots of pages of information pictures essays etc.

The google search idea is not really a good one.
I guarantee you that you'll not have very many friends that take the time to repeatedly google your business in a manner to actually reflect in any change in Google placement. AND, even if they do - you need to rely upon more than google to get people to you.
Your webpage obviously needs to be outstanding, but to get people there, you'll need more than just google. I'd suggest that you find out what OTHER webpages talk about Vermont Retreats, and buy/post your way into them. Beyond that, you'll need to do a lot of direct advertising that targets your specific market.
So, it looks like you'll have to form a Marketing Plan.
How to do that?

<<Actually Andrew, the reason I know that it works is because I did it - - more than once. >>
Well, Cliff, then perhaps that is one element that Bald Mountain Retreat could use to form a well thougt-out greater plan. The problem with that idea is that a) it takes quite a bit of time and effort to do with one aspect of what should be a large marketing effort, and b) one has to know how to really do it to make it worth the effort. Sure, put that in the plan, but for each different element of who their customers are and how their customers find them they should have a unique and specific marketing direction. Google alone would be a sad waste of effort when there are more specific things that they could do to directly drive people to their retreat.
One thing that I'd suggest is that anyone who wants to work on a better marketing scheme find out HOW people find them who are already their customers and target that already working funnel. And, doing research to find out how other successful retreats have worked? Why re-invent the wheel?

Re: seeking ideas to promote my/our Vermont retreat
Mon, December 3, 2007 - 9:28 PMNo to get to the top of google, your site should have a lot of text the more information you add to your site with links to sub-information the better. And in your header use ever word to describe what people will find at your retreat ex. *enlightenment, inter, personal, healing, food,* if you start from A-Z with this you’ll have a header that will keep you at the top of every search engine, yes this is very time consuming but it works.

Re: seeking ideas to promote my/our Vermont retreat
Thu, November 15, 2007 - 7:57 PMI was going to suggest looking at what others in your industry are doing. I worked for awhile for a magazine called Specialty Travel Index, which came out twice a year and was basically an advertising magazine for the travel industry for high end travel. I'm sure there are plenty of others out there.
Also, when I worked for another company in San Francisco, we did a retreat and I looked around for websites that were places where retreats would list themselves.
When my husband and I went to a wedding in a tiny town in Northern California, I found a few websites that were geared toward B&B's and similar type places to stay.
Go online and do searches for what you want to be recognized as (think about whom your target audience is). Find places you can list, then list with as many as you can. Though there may be a small fee, and you may not see it's return for a season or two it will probably be worth it in the long run. -

Re: seeking ideas to promote my/our Vermont retreat
Mon, November 26, 2007 - 4:03 PMThanks to all.
I'm pretty happy with (the improvement in) our search engine placement, and optimistic re the future,
and I will look into your suggestions.
I'm trying to generate publicity, ie, get the word out.
Any body out there want to market? -
