Spirit Awakening... April 5th, with Shiva Raye & Jajira (St. Louis area.)

It's coming up FAST! So I have been working with our contact person, Gabby, the last few days on this. We'll be doing an interactive performance in the evening, after dinner. Anyone in St. Louis area that chants, dances, or drums is welcome to participate!

The workshops that Snakes Rising will offer during the day are as follows:

1) Chanting for healing and releasing: Introduction to Threshhold singing and Kirtan. By Amma. One hour. This should be in a quiet place. Maybe even a hotel room. We need a place where one member of the group can lie down and be chanted over by the others. Could serve as a morning "prayer" session.

2) Earth Centered Chants for the Evening's Performance. By Amma. One hour. We do need to be away from loud interuptions, but not as quiet as the first session. I may ask Jajira to work on make-up and costuming with me in this session. We'll be doing a 'Green Tour" performance, which is very forest oriented. Waking up the trees etc..... mid-day if possible.

3) Introductory Dumbek by Dave. This is a LOUD workshop. 1 1/2 hours as a rule. In the afternoon, I'd suggest, as drummers may come for this and stay to "perform" in the drum circle ... but not be there all weekend. Folks who want to drum for the chanting or dancing in the evening MUST attend.

4) Introduction to bellydance by Shiva Raye and Jajira. 1 1/2 to 2 hours (depends on size of group.) Shiva Raye and Jajira will lead attendees in one or two brief "choreographies" for the evening performance. These will be *beginner* oriented with a choice of Cabaret style (by Shiva Raye) and American Tribal Style (by Jajira.) This should be afternoon, for late arrivers who wish to stay and perform.

There will be more to come as we get closer to the date! Mark your calendars now and come spend the day with us!

That's right kiddies, the house of Grimm has a vacancy! I need a roomie by march 1st! Right now I have myself and Joe, a mild mannered homey who wishes to keep the basement, so you would get the upstairs room across from me. The rent is 284/mo. The bills are never more than a hundred a person, so for about 350 (everything included) you get all this!

Easy going, but outspoken.

Trustworthy and mostly DRAMA FREE (that means the company you keep as well)
Fun loving and doesn't mind the occasional party (or 2am after party).

Let me clarify that last one by saying this is NOT a "party house", and we respect each others privacy and schedules, but we do party nonetheless!

On the shedding of skin...

The time has come for another molting of Snakes Rising....people have moved, people have chosen different paths, and the snake is still at our center though. I'm going threw the details with Amma and Dave now, but it's time that a little light is shed on the metamorphosis.

Snakes was primarily a group created for the exploration of ecstatic music and dance, and we are in agreement that this is where it needs to return. For the next while, we will not be planning new events or performances (though there are one or two still on the calendar) Rather, in an effort to bring a more organic cohesiveness to our efforts, I'm stepping up to the plate to lead the group.

Dave and Amma get to enjoy the fruit of labors they've already done in a way that lets their past work - work for them. and when the day comes we start looking for performance venues again, I'll handle that as well. For now....we return to drum circles, shared music, and moving to them in the way that feels most natural. Snakes Rising is going to take a restful period to grow within a monthly drum circle at my studio, and those that have the time, will, and desire to take part are welcome.

No egos, No money, No expectations....
Just music, dance, and ecstasy.

OK we've set the date for the Yule Drumming to Friday Dec. 7th 7:30 to ?? Should be plenty early enough not to interfere with too many holiday adventures. Thoughts on a spirit focused music and dance retreat...

I would like to opt for one of the early Summer months of next year to have a ritual dance retreat, rather than a scheduled, booked event. A communal with the ocean mother. Snakes has always had a water feel, and water is frequent in the signs of our members...

I would propse that it be an organised disorganitation. Just setting the date, and meeting at a state campground right on Myrtle Beach. We would camp and sleep and network by day, doing whateverseems fun, and by night, go to the ocean, in candlelit circles on the beach play the music and dance the dance we know so well. Leave it open as to who can and wants to join us, solitary or in small groups. Leave it open as to what people may want to incorporate into their interpretation of the oceans song. If everyone registers their site early enough, whomever wants to go could.

Let the waters settle, you will see the moon and stars, mirrored in your being
All Rivers flow to the ocean, and the ocean refuses no one.

Any other thoughts?

Amma & Dave Resu!ming Management of Snakes Rising

Just an update....

Despite my best attempts to hand this baby off to some new managers.... Amma and Dave are back at the snakey helm! It was an interesting experiment, to be sure.

I'll be back in Ohio at the end of this month. To do the two October performances we have scheduled in Louisville and Canton. Then I'll resume my sabbatical until late 2007.

Snakes will have it's annual holiday retreat sometime in November/ December, I project. That's when we'll unveil our plans for 2008.

Some interesting connections are being forged, and pathways being paved. That is all I can say for now....

red and silver bra and belt 5pc set

This costume come with bra belt two arm bands and a head piece. Both bra and belt are lined. The bra is very sturdy will hold it's shape well.
This costume will work great for new students, hobbyist class recitals, parties photos and performances.
This is an original one of a kind costume.

This bra will fit a 36-36 C/D. The bra is covered in a red fabric with red glass beads and silver sequin. In the center front of the bra is a tassel made from silver bugled beads that hangs about 6 1/2 inches down the front of the bra. The side panels and neck straps are made from a red velvet fabric. The neck straps are 25 inches long and comes with no hooks or clasp. The side panels have black elastic sewn to it with a gold clasp pinned at the ends so you can adjust to your size when you get it. This bra is lined and very sturdy will hold it's shape.

The belt is cover in the same fabric as the bra. The belt ties on as if it were a hip sash. The belt has and elastic casing in the back that can be gather to help with a better fit around the hips for a dancer with curves. The belt is 31 inches long not including the tie ends. The tie ends are 20 inches long. The belt will fit a med. to Lg and if you are smaller I can adjust it down before it is shipped The fringe is made from silver bugle beads and is about 6 inches long.

This costume has a real elegant flare to it and sparkle great in the lights

Postponing Jalsah Weekend

I am really sorry to have to do this, but I think it is necessary for me to postpone Jalsah Weekend in Ohio.

Harvard resumes that week. In the wake of Jason's passing, David and I feel we need to be available to help Lucas return to school. In fact, it is likely that I will spend a good bit of September helping Lucas move to Cambridge from Revere.

Once life returns to normal... we can talk about rescheduling for 2008

Friday night... Update on Jason

The latest that I have from Amma...
They did a pre-op test and decided, based on that, not to operate after all. The pressure on his brain, while still pretty high, had stabilized somewhat, and they decided to wait and see if things would improve without it. Maybe the swelling will now begin to go down. It's what we're hoping for now.

Meanwhile, an ear, nose & throat specialist said that because of the facial injuries, he won't have sight in his left eye or hearing in his left ear. I know that if Amma were near a keyboard, she would ask everyone to send Reiki and all other forms of healing energy focusing on his sight and hearing.

Let's keep up the thoughts and prayers! We've avoided the extremely risky surgery for now.... With all of us behind him, he'll improve quickly and have a recovery beyond his doctors' expectations!

So mote it be.

I’ve just talked to Amma from the Road. She asked me to ask everyone...

Please, send all the extra love and prayers you have right now. They are about to take Jason into surgery now for a very risky procedure. She is terrified now that she won’t be there in time… before he dies.

I truly believe the procedure will work and that Jason, a young, strong man, will win this. Jason, Amma, Lucas, and everyone else involved needs every last ounce of inspiration and healing vibes surrounding Jason in that Bright Pink Bubble of Prayers.

When I saw them in Louisville, I asked "what's up with the roosters?" I was told they were just cool, and red. I heard several other people question the signifigance of the cocks in Louisville and Muncie. So I did a little research. It seems Amma's subconcience spiritual wisdom drew her to the roosters for a reason. Check this out.

In Christianity, the cock symbolises passion and viligence. In many cultures, the rooster's habit of crowing at the dawning of each new morning made it a symbol of the daily victory of light over darkness and the triumph of good over evil. This habit along with its fiery comb made the rooster the symbol of FIRE, the sun and Christ - the light of the world who announces an end to spiritual darkness and despair. In the Far East, the rooster was painted on the doors or houses to drive off evil spirits.

So, there you have it, everything the Red Tour is about. Passion and fire!

All of this is the Red Tour, which is set up around the music-and-bellydancing ensemble Snakes Rising, but is going every witch way (pardon pun) with the help of Widdershins, a New Age store in Lyndon. Among the musical acts are il Troubadore and Jim Burch. A variety of workshops will go on throughout the noon-to-midnight mini-festival. This is a cross-cultural cavalcade, heavy on alternative flavor but sure to be lively and unlike anything else you’ll take in this summer. It's been a little slow in coming together. But... I think I can safely tell you that Snakes Rising will perform "late Friday" at Scorched Nuts. From what I can gather, this means something like 11 PM or midnight.

Red Tour Updates! IMPORTANT!!

Dave and I had a long talk last evening, about how the set lists and dancer line-up for Red Tour are getting sooooo complicated! I guess we did not see how difficult it would be to fully integrate two bands and numerous dancer requests.

Further... we have been taking note of the actually time of dusk... which is somewhere around 9:30 at this point.

Soooo.... we made a couple of executive decisions.... and here's what they are:

1) There will be TWO SEPARATE SETS for Il Troubadore and Snakes Rising on Red Tour. Il Troubadore will start at ~ 8 to 8:30 PM. Folks choosing their tunes will be in the first half of the show. It will still be light out.... so this is a good place to dance if you are working with a snake or a non-fiery prop. (Snakes Rising may still do some drumming in this set, if requested by Jon & Robert.)

2) Snakes Rising will do the second set. Begins at dusk. This is the "fyah" set. If you are dancing with fire, eating fire... whatever... this is the set to do that in! For the appreciation of the audience... (Il T may still help out with this set, on the songs they know and want to play along on.)

3) We'll end the evening with a few "open dance" songs... TIME PERMITTING. (Both bands can play at this time.)

4) All touring dancers are expected to be part of Set II. With or without fire.

5) Visiting dancers can choose either set. In some cases, you may be asked to dance in both sets... depending on the number of performers at the venue.

6) Each band will handle it's own set list. Dancer line-ups are being handled by the event hostesses. Please be aware that, Red Tour has a theme. If a dancer has a song to suggest based on this theme, and one of the bands feels they can play it.... that's fine. But.... we don't want to stray too far from the original set lists posted by the musicians. For this... and many other reasons....

Sorry for the last minute changes.... but we need to simplify things in order to allow our event hostesses to move forward with dancer line-ups.

Hostesses, please alert your venue performers of the updates! And PM me if you have questions....

Not yet sure of our performance time. Presumably, sometime Saturday. We will be kickin' off the Red Tour! Besides performing... you can get lots of practice in with our live band at "Camp Kundalini" hosted by our own Burning Man Officionado , Bob Moyes.

Be there or.... as we said in the 70's..... be square.

Pre_Abundance Fest Work Week May 29 - June 3, 2007

We are doing comps for Abundance Festival that come to the Work Week from Tuesday, May 29, 2007 through Sunday, June 3, 2007 (or portions thereof). Projects will include the construction of the "All Natural" Pavillion in the Fairy Grotto, Trail work, and working with Natural Fencing on the Perimeter of the entire property. We need kitchen help to feed people that weekend. We need help setting up "Gypsy camps" throughout the property for use during the Abundance Festival. We need your old tapestries, the kind you can hang outside in the weather around the camps. We need help with the firewood collection and could always use more chainsaws. Also, ATVs, golf carts, etc. would be useful in hauling the trailers. We could use woodchips and sawdust for the trails, especially down around the Fairy Grotto. Of course, at night, we drum and dance. : )

September 28th Hipdrop Concert at Park of Roses

With Carmine (NYC), Snakes Rising, Ishtar (Pittsburgh) and Laylia.... is now slated to happen at the Park of Roses in Columbus, OH!!!

I was sooo thrilled when Steve told me this. It's one of my favorite places in Ohio.

Many more details to come... so stay tuned. (And, dancers, let us know if you want to perform!)

As you may know, by now... Carmine and Melissa will be in the area to help us kick off Jalsah I. To be held on September 29th in NE Cincy. At the Anaya Gypsy Studios. There will be pre-Jalsah workshops on Saturday. Taught by Carmine & Melissa. You can get a Jalsah Jumpstart at www.dorku.com if you are a musician who wants to join in the fun!
