Re: Was Krishna's Mother a Virgin?
Tue, June 23, 2009 - 8:40 AMHere's the Srimad Bhagavatam (SB) speaking to Devaki, calling her chaste -
SB 10.3.43: "O supremely chaste mother ..... "
chaste means virgin
The very end of SB 10.3.17 "You never entered the womb of Devaki; rather, You existed there already."
PURPORT "The Lord did not need to live within the womb of Devaki, for His presence within the core of her heart was sufficient to carry Him. One is here forbidden to think that Kr?s?n?a was begotten by Vasudeva within the womb of Devaki and that she carried the child within her womb."

"In the context of myth and religion, the virgin birth is applied to any miraculous conception and birth. In this sense, whether the mother is technically a virgin is of secondary importance to the fact that she conceives and gives birth by some means other than the ordinary....the divine Vishnu himself descended into the womb of Devaki and was born as her son Krishna."
- Thomas Boslooper, "The Virgin Birth," S.C.M. Press, (1962), Pages 148 & 149. Cited in: "The Virgin Birth of Christ."
Philo wrote that despite the females status of a Goddess whether wife or mother, could regain her virginity "through mystical union with God." Same as Jesus' mum Mary after several kids too. ("Christ in Egypt" by D.M. Murdock page 154 & 155)
Here's one most are completely unaware of - Devaki getting pregnant by eating FRUIT:
"The most striking novelties occur in this episode: Devaki and Rohini are sisters of sixteen and fifteen distraught at their bridegroom's great age. All three newlyweds join Kamsa (the girls' brother) on a forest hunt. There the girls tease Kamsa into shooting down a mango tree's single fruit, from which each eats half and gets pregnant."

The Mahabharata itself states of Draupadi: "Without doubt, through the grace of that god, I once more became a virgin."
