Haight Ashbury Museum in GGP Emergency Aid Station

According to the Hotel and Visitors Bureau the Haight is the second most popular pedestrian tourist destination in SF (Pier 39 is first) and yet, with exception of 3-days-a-week walking tours or my own historical star map, there is precious little that presents its history to this eager public.

Over the years there have been many suggestions for potential Haight Ashbury Museum locations (the Library Park Branch, various stores, 710 Ashbury) but the value of real estate or the commitment to other needs have precluded its establishment. However, there exists a local building (Stanyan betw. Beulah & Frederick) which is already a City Landmark, is unoccupied (and slowly deteriorating), and has no specified place in the GGP Master Plan:

upgrade needed
• new facility for
recreational activities
• landmark structure

It would take some extensive upgrading of the unreinforced masonry to contemporary earthquake standards but perhaps an assessment could be made by the City Engineer's Office.

Park Emergency Aid Station. This structure
served as a San Francisco Department of Public
Health emergency hospital from 1902 until 1978.
It continued as an ambulance station until 1991.
The building will require extensive work for
accessibility and seismic improvements to make it
suitable for a new use. If the improvements can be
made, the structure may provide a new location for
recreational activities. Another possible use would
be as offices for a park conservancy organization.

Barry "The Fish" Melton (Country Joe and the Fish) & Banana (The Youngbloods) will kick the party off at 4pm.

The Revival All-Stars follow featuring: Greg Anton (Zero), Tom Finch (Big Brother and the Holding Company), Martin Fierro (The Jerry Garcia Band, Zero), Futoshi Morioka (Gregg’s Eggs) and surprise guests!

The Wavy Gravy Summer of Love Revival celebrates the opening of a show of current collage works by Wavy Gravy, as well work by The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia (1942-1995) curated by Vingloarts.com. Another show will feature iconic 60’s cartoonists Dave Sheridan (1943-1982) and Gilbert Shelton, album artist Stanley Mouse, MOT and DAVA. Delicious food and non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase.

Wavy Gravy will MC the show and offer his unique performances that brought him to national fame at Woodstock.

Summer of Love Festival is a proposed city and other locations wide festival of multiple events by differnet organizations. Already 4 months into it's timeline it has an extensive network of presenters and supporters. Info, history, and concept at http://www.summeroflovefestival.com

The Festival Management intern in a volunteer position.
Duties include but not limited to assisting the director with:
Liaison with presenters.
Liaison with different departments.
Research
Publicity
Administration

Requirements:
Min 10 hours per week.
Wireless laptop.
Car or other own transport.
Cell phone.
Basic admin and computer skills.
Good people skills.
Good presentation.
Focus.

The Festival Management Intern is a high profile opportunity for the right person which will include liaison with arts, entertainment, and media professionals.
