A call to all! My friends the time is nearing, this is the final countdown. Thevision for our day is a glorious one that brings laughter to even themost hardened of hearts. Take Courthouse Square for example, the“Heart of Downtown Santa Rosa,” we shall warm it with food,face-paint, graffiti walls and more! The plan of action is to meet in Railroad Square at 12 noon andcollect our numbers a bit off the beaten path. From there we willmarch to Courthouse Square taking 3rd St. underneath the 101 overpassand mall. We must give the cops as little reason possible forharassing us, so as we pound the pavement we must make sure thatindividuals stay on the sidewalks, while art cars and bikes flood thestreets. We will strike at the “heart” and take it hostage as our“base of operations.” But we want more than just the heart . . . giveus the whole enchilada! My friends, I hope we all can envision the electrifying effect we mayaffect through our actions. When I close my eyes and imagine how Aug.8th will unfold, I get a big old shit-eatin’ grin stretched across myface from ear to ear. Picture in your mind’s eye a downtown that islively and festive, teeming to the brim with all the beautifullybizarre oddities that make each one of us who we are! (Never forgetthat variety is the spice of life.) I see strangers enjoying thecompany of other strangers, striking up conversations on a whim orbeing bedazzled by the abilities of their fellow neighbors. I seecostumed bicyclists by the hundreds whimsically riding around incircles, a colorful mob careening back and forth disappearing andreappearing, then disappearing, then reappearing again. At everystreet corner, in every nook and cranny, be it bike path or backalley, there are people playing music, people dancing, singing, painting, juggling, weaving, acting, clowning, sculpting, laughing, and laughing, and more! Down this street walks a man dressed like afish carrying a sign that reads, “72% of the world is water . . . nowwho’s the dominant species?” while across the way is a woman walkingon stilts in the opposite direction. The idea is for everybody tobring to the table whatever their wildest imaginations can conceive, but we must keep it “radio friendly” please. Oh yeah, and all areencouraged to wear costume -- the more panache we can muster themerrier! And as it is already expressed above, we must give the cops as fewreasons possible for harassing us. We’re out here to celebrate andset a good example, not be confrontational or riotous. We will notask them for permission, but if all is done right we won’t need to askfor forgiveness either. A few simple things we must follow: • Once we hit the downtown we can not block the sidewalks and dam-uppedestrian traffic, we’ll fill-in all the empty spaces though. Wewill takeover Courthouse Square, but a square is where people aremeant to hang out. Art cars and bikes . . . well those puppies arelegally obligated to remain in the road, so if they just happen tofill up the whole street, how’s that any different than a ToyotaTacoma or Honda Accord?• Be respectful of the businesses. One of our messages is that itdoesn’t need to be “community vs. commerce,” let’s recognize that astronger community compliments commerce.• Please, we can’t have people getting intoxicated in public. If youwanna drink, smoke, or whatever, just go somewhere private like ahouse or a bar.• And finally, leave no trace. Pick up your trash, pick up otherpeoples’ trash. If all is done right we should only be breaking 2 laws, playing musicand playing with a ball. For what law says it’s illegal to dance inpublic? Show me the law that says it’s illegal to paint or draw, readpoetry, perform puppetry, wave flags and sing. Show me the law thatsays it’s illegal to wear a costume while riding a bike or walkingdown the street. I’ve never heard of any, have you? So my friends, the time draws near. The word has been spreading tothousands upon thousands. There’s an article about the Renegade ArtRevival in the new Northbay Bohemian that just came out Wed. 7-29.We’ve got all sorts of groups onboard networking from Northbay BurningMan, to the Nor-Bay PyratePunx, Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition,Sonoma County Arts Council, Free Mind Media Center, and many manymore!! And words are fine and words are dandy, but all of our effortsmean nothing unless we act. This event, this protest of sorts is100%reliant upon the participation and gumption of us all. We needeveryone to come out of their shells on Aug. 8th and congregate inRailroad Square at 12 noon. The city will be ours, if only for a day.Keep spreading the word -- see ya on the 8th!! Cheers! -- Aaron Milligan-Green P.S. Forward this message to all you know.
