<div>I went to Amira tonight to see Susie, Mary Ellen Donald and Nanna for the last Hurrah, the last performance at Amira. <br/>It was quite an emotional night. It ended on a very sweet note and I can't imagine having missed it. <br/>It was so nice seeing Susie with Mary Ellen and Nanna, along with Said on oud, plus a couple of other wonderful percussionists joining in, a special surprize addition with the amazing Mack bringing out his trumpet. I remembered Susie wondering what was in an unfamiliar case laying on stage. He even surprized Mary Ellen. that was precious. <br/> <br/>I'm so glad I got to witness the love and emotion of 13 years of music with Mary Ellen and the crew at Amira. I only caught shows for the past 2 years, but tonight's energy with the musicians kinda - in a weird way - brought me back with them. I stayed with them till the restaurant was closed and we all left together. There was such a sweet energy with the artists and owners, reminiscing, sharing, encouraging future flourising of their dreams. <br/> <br/>I am repeatedly reminded of the awesome relationships I have, both artistic and personal. <br/>It was a hard day today being surrounded by heartbreak, confusion and depression with some of my closest friends who I consider my family. Coming to Amira and feeling the positive energy and love, appreciation of years of dedication, was very healing for me. I'm glad I was able to be there for my friends today, and even happier I was able to end my day being With my friends indulging in the glory of artistic brilliance and tears of joyful memories. <br/> <br/>Everybody gave it their all, and then some, tonight. <br/>In addition to the people who specifically came to see the performance, there were random people in the restaurant who didn't know what this was all about, but I know they went home with the aroma of that succulent vibe still on them. <br/> <br/>Susie - Amazing. <div>I had an f-ing Great time last night at Tripl power last night. <br/>It's already been determined Susie and I are triple power junkies. <br/>I had an extra spectacular time last night, was there from when the doors opened at 9 until they kicked us out at 2, and danced my ass off almost all night. <br/> <br/>Maneesh played a Wicked set, accompanied by Susie on doumbek for a few tracks. It was some of the best most cohesive dj+drum collaboration I have seen, and it was the first time they played together. <br/> <br/>She also did an awesome drum solo with Robin bellydancing. I Loved it. They did really well together. <br/> <br/>The whole night was great, f-ing great. I missed Shanti last month when I was spinning there, so I was happy to catch her set. She rocked it out, as she usually does. Giamma too. Fact is the drum world in general is heavy male dominant (as is the music world period in terms of instrumentalists) and arabic percussion world??? why statistically female arabic drummers don't exist. I have been teaching basic arabic rhythm drum workshops for women for the past two years now, mostly to my students.
