Welll, it seems we have Gibson Pearl, Rachel Brice and now Julia from Gypsy Fire in Bend, OR who are OC girls! Who knew!!!???? I love it!!! Julia's family is in Huntinton Beach and she moved to Bend in 1993! Anybody else!?!? By the way, Bend is way cool! Went there with the Solace tour and had a blast! A thriving metropolis!!

I actually came to OC from Compton! Back in the 60's it was basically Anytown, USA and then the wind shifted as you all know....moved to Fullerton in 1972 and in 2002, my hubby and i bought the house next door to my parents house! AND my brothers live just 2 doors down, that's how cool this neighborhood is! I can't wait to put ATS and OC on da map! It's about frikkin' time!

Me me me!!! My family moved to Huntington Beach when I was 4 and I went to Cornelia Connelly High school (all girls!) in Anaheim. Then for college went to Cal State Fullerton, later moved onto Santa Cruz.
We moved back there with kids from 86 until 1991 when we moved to Ventura County.
I used to work at Disneyland!!

when we first lived in H.B. my dad used to say we lived in the country! And it was!!!

That's rad!!! I love finding this out! Hey E! I worked at Disneyland for a whole weekend as a character: I was Pluto and the White Rabbit. I was 27 and it did not pay enough! And I worked at Knott's Berry Farm off and on for over 20 years! Onstage and offstage, behind the scenes!

Do any of you remember the Japanese Deer Park or the Alligator Farm by Knott's!?!? HA!!! I'm old.........

hahaha!!! I remember both of those! I'm old too! When I went to kindergarten I had to walk across Beach Blvd. Could you imagine letting a 5 year old cross Beach Blvd now? Actually even then it was risky I only did it once.

I remember those, too! Busch Gardens (in Van Nuys), anyone? I remember going on tour of the brewery when I was little. It was like an amusement park ride (that smelled of hops).

So - you must be... My age? Not possible. You look too good. I grew up in La Habra. My mom used to take me to the Japanese Deer Park and the Alligator Farm all the time. I was so sad when they closed. I hadn't thought of them for a long time - when I read your post, for some reason I remembered how these places smelled, and a black felt banner I once had from the Deer Park when I was a very little girl.

I want to go home. Waaaa!

Okay, I'm not QUITE an OC girl, but when I was down there for my internship it really felt like home; I was sad to leave :(

Fullerton rocks, baby! I loved it there! I wanna move back someday.

The cool thing is, my best friend of over 12 years goes to Cal State Fullerton and lived only 10 min up the street from me!! I couldn't have gotten through internship without her. Plus, she works at Disneyland, over by the Blue Bayou...she got me in for FREE last year for my birthday! :D

*sniff sniff* I miss da OC *cries*

ok I was just down there today taking my mom out for early mother's day dinner etc...and we were remembering when the 405 didn't go all the way down to the 5 and it ended right after Fountain Valley. We had to drive through strawberry fields to go to Sears and there was NO south coast plaza yet only Sears in the middle of the farms...yes that was a f#@k of a loooong time ago! I was very small maybe 4 or 5.

I'm sorry I didn't know you from 88-96...I lived in Garden Grove, Orange, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Fullerton & Placentia...not necessarily in that order.
I wish I had discovered ATS back then, but I was too busy head-bangin' and dancing/working at a heavy metal dance club w/KNAC DJs.......sorry-just had a lil' flashback!

awww yes! KNAC!! I actually won a pair of "Monkey Boots/Doc Martens" when they played "New Wave" music back in da day and I remember coming out to my car one day after work and hearing heavy metal music.....and I thought, oh they're just playing it as a joke. But then they just kept playing heavy metal music from then on! I went into work listening to Elvis Costello and drove home listening to Metallica! Now they play mexican music! HA! My people's music! OLE!

And yes, Busch Gardens.....with that big ol Eagle walking around (some poor starving actor!).....it always confused me having a theme park sponsored by a beer company......and they Lion Country Surfari, which became the Irvine Amphitheatre and now the Verizon Amphitheatre! But yeah, I remember going many a time, the pictures we have of a big ol'ostrich right by our car window looking in, or being surrounded by babboons.....that was a cool place!

The best thing I ever got out of KNAC was tix/passes to the Gary Myrick "Living In A Movie" listening party - listened to the music while watching the movie "Pandora's Box" (with Louise Brooks?) ... God bless the '80s ...

I've been in San Diego since 1975 (and on a temporary assignment here in late 1971) - but I do have an OC story. Cause I have a cousin who lives in Mission Viejo - so we would drive up the 5 to visit for holiday dinners, like Thanksgiving. And back then the 5 wasn't four lanes through San Clemente - so on a big holiday it would turn into a giant parking lot. One year I drove up the 15 and across the Ortega Highway just to miss the jam going through San Clemente.

I came to Orange via Norwalk & then Los Alamitos. I lived in Orange from 1973 to 1977 then migrated up here to Santa Maria in 1977. Ah, Huntington Beach, my old surf stomping grounds of my youth.........yep, ladies, I go way back to long boards & tamdem surfing!

    One other thing, Ms. Sooz,

Having grown up in Fullerton - were you familiar with Casbah Studio, or any of the musicians associated with it ( Stacy Q -eg Stacy Swain, Fahrenheit, Breathe)... I knew all of them. Breathe disappeared when the Euro group Breathe came out to the US. Fahrenheit hired Terry Nunn as their lead singer and became the 80's hit band, Berlin; Stacy recorded the "classic" "Queen of Hearts". All from Fullerton, all from the Casbah. In the 80's, Fahrenheit opened for Missing Persons at The Whiskey A-Go-Go. I was friends with the keyboardist, Keith. I was pulled up on stage to dance with the band - and ripped my leg open on the loose metal carpet strip. Blood everywhere, but I didn't notice til the set was finished. AAhhh, Memories....
