I've been a good virgin Burner and have been reading TONS of info. I have printed out at least 200 pages of good info as I find it - then keep it around the house to read as I have spare time. The idea of the survival pack type thing that you carry everywhere got me wondering...
So I had this idea. I was thinking about working with some of the other graphic designers here to create a card kind of thing that would include a Stag Camp logo, and then blank spaces to fill in our playa address (because we're not positive that land grab gets us to 8:45 between E and F or thereabouts), and our default world address info. I can get these printed in advance and bring them with me. If someone else could bring a small laminator - then we could have Stag Camp hang tags for our CamelBak/daypack. Also the concept of clipping one to your person that says - if you find me in a bad way - help me stagger back to Stag Camp - or something like that.
What do you guys and gals think?

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 1:26 PMThe body/ bag tags sound like a great idea i know last year some people left bags in camps and art cars and had to run around looking for them... don't think we had the problem of anybody getting dragged back to intoxicated to move but.... never know what will happen this year -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 7:29 AMwho would be so careless as to leave their stuff in another camp or art car????
o.k. guilty! so i for one am a huge fan of this idea....why didn't i think of that?

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 3:55 PMWhat a grand idea!! I don't have a laminator, but could we just premake them all then write in the address with Sharpie markers on the plastic? I can supply a ton of markers.
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 4:17 PMI definitly love the idea, another thing I hand't though of now seems pretty important. What do you mean by "laminator"? -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 4:55 PMWell - I can do the layout and design work at home - and then print out a hundred or so of them (4 - 6 per page and then cut them down) in pretty color and all that. I was thinking that they could avoid becoming moop easier if they were laminated and a hard plastic type thing - like a drivers license. Less likely to tear off and become lost. I hadn't thought of laminating in advance and then using sharpies - but that would certainly work.
I messaged crappypants about his logo - I REALLY like the one with the sunrays coming out from behind the face. Unfortunately he has left on his travels already and doesn't have access to the original high res file. I'll work on it this weekend and see what I can do. -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 5:04 PMOK - guess I should clarify - a bunch of people made some cool logos in the eplaya stag camp 2.0 page - I just happened to really like the second one that crappypants did. I'm not sure how to post that inline here - but I have it as a pic in my profile. Thats the one I was thinking of. If any of you are talented computer artists and could recreate it for me in illustrator or photoshop - I would be happy to have a high res image!

feel free to use this one if you like or not.
I like the idea of the lamination also. they could be secured to packs with those little plastic locking things. I'll most likely be bringing a lot of those.

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 7:52 PMthe idea of id tags is really cool. i like the black and white logo with the sabers. its simple and easy to shrink or blow up and it goes along with our retarded pirate theme. i mean retarded in the most generous and pleasant way ofcoarse!
either way id tags are now a must!
John is kicking ass already!!! -

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 8:01 PMSpeaking of that Pirate design a friend of mine is going to air brush that onto a giant black bed sheet ( think it used to be on a Double or a Queen sized bed got it for like 89 cents at thrift store... and died it black) so we can make a flag out of it..... and then make a small one on a black pellow case so i can have a large one and small one -

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 10:34 PMPerfect for bikes too. I'll have generator power so if you want bring the laminator and makings to the playa and have a tag party. -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 9:03 AMThanks for the offer of power. I need to check at Staples or wherever to see how much a laminator is. Otherwise I may just pay to have them laminate them for me in advance. Although I think they'd be much more permanent if we did the writing all below the lamination. -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 5:52 PMyou know if the laminator (with burning red eyes) is too pricey then at office max they have backpack tags that are clear and they are some what cheaper than the laminator (shiny metal frame) and no MOOP -

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 8:28 PMyeah thats the one i was talking about thanks for posting the link. i suck like that not doing it myself. seriously...how cool is that one though! it's simple and so bad-ass...which works because i get the impression that many of us are bad-ass and most of us are pretty simple:)

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Mon, July 21, 2008 - 8:28 PMI will still make sure and have a bunch of sharpies for the final addresses and any other last minute additions. I'll also make sure and pack a hole punch for the finished products. I also have a wide selection of ribbon and zip ties to add to the tie it on collection

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 9:11 AMJason - I looked back at pages 12-14 of the eplaya post (where most of the other logos are) and didn't see the one you are referring to. Could you point me towards where I can find that one? I was thinking about maybe making up a couple of different ID cards ... -

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Wed, July 23, 2008 - 7:46 AMawesome idea! i love it.. now call me crazy (and that i might be) but couldn't we use this to laminate? www.staples.com/office/sup...0051_SEARCH
its just basically sticky clear stuff, that acts just like laminate with out the machine.. i'll happily buy it and bring it -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Wed, July 23, 2008 - 9:12 AMYeah baby, we used that stuff to "laminate" photos etc.. for communication with our non-verbal kids in the special ed. room I worked in. If it can hold up to them, it can take the playa, believe me! I can pick up a roll also, if ya'll decide to use it, and can help put them together if you want. -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Wed, July 23, 2008 - 10:44 AMRebecca and (cole) - thanks so much for your offers to bring that laminate roll. I started working on layout and such last night. There is a Staples about a mile from my house and I was wanting to see what they would charge for a stiff lamination on these. I also found a laminating machine there for $60 that I may consider purchasing. I should know more by the end of this weekend. If I don't buy the laminating machine - then I am definitely open to your offers to buy rolls of laminate!
Thanks for getting behind this little idea of mine! -

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 5:05 PMI am too tired to say anything more than: this sounds awesome.
Whoever posted that there will be two simultaneous events--Stag Camp and Burning Man--is totally right on.

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Sun, July 27, 2008 - 4:50 PMmzfit,
I have a small laminating machine that I would be happy to bring. Sister and I can pick up some I.D. sized laminate sheets. I would just need to know how many we should get. Great idea by the way.

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Sun, July 27, 2008 - 5:47 PMMor - thank you! Thats freaking awesome! What size can it take? I can finalize our designs based on that size. I was thinking about having 120 to 150 of the tags available - so you can put on on your bag, your bike and your person. I can make more though - that's not a huge deal. Let me know and we can work out more details from there. -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Fri, August 8, 2008 - 10:21 AMI haven't been able to get in touch with mor to get info about the laminating machine she has. Does someone have contact info for her? -
-
Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Fri, August 8, 2008 - 11:29 AMI, as her best friend will drive to her house today and tussle her to the ground and sit on her 'till she promises to get in touch!! Seriously, she was running around the office the other day saying something about the laminating machine...talk...gotta call...talk...so fear not! The situation will resolve shortly! ha hahahaha
expect a call!
much burning love

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Mon, August 18, 2008 - 1:34 PMcole is soooo much my hero right now! She and mor are being awesome and providing the laminator and pouches.
I will have 300+ hangtags and cole has 300 laminating pouches - so we'll have plenty. Look for me at/around my RV (hard to miss - mzfits 2005 North American Tour is huge on the back of it) and I can give you a few to fill out and then we can laminate them for you. Someone I talked to was going to have the rubber band type of thingy to hang them from your bags/bikes. If you want to wear it around your neck like a backstage pass - you'll need to bring some kind of lanyard.
Thanks to all of you!

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Mon, August 18, 2008 - 6:28 PMI just got a tag at a" Clamper" doins this past week-end that is perfect for us. I don't know how to reproduce it or send it to anyone because I dont really know how to use this damned computer properly but I will bring it with me and maybe someone might want to consider it for next year. Most of you probably don't know what a "Clamper" is and it would take to long to explain on this thread so I will tell all out on the Playa. (If your interested) -

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Mon, August 18, 2008 - 7:27 PMi like sheldon more every time he types...to clearify his last post...a little info...
Clamper
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A clamper can mean:
A clamper, an electronic circuit.
A spiked plate worn on the sole of the shoe to prevent slipping when walking on ice.
A person who applies a wheel clamp to a vehicle parked illegally or on private land.
A person who belongs to the Ancient and Honorable Society of E Clampus Vitus.
The Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus (ECV) is a fraternal organization dedicated to the study and preservation of Western Heritage, in particular the history of the Mother Lode and gold mining regions of the area. There are chapters in California, Nevada and other Western states. Members call themselves "Clampers." The organization's name is in Dog Latin, and has no known meaning; even the spelling is disputed, sometimes appearing as "Clampusus"[citation needed], "Clampsus", or "Clampsis". The motto of the Order, Credo Quia Absurdum, is generally understood as meaning "I believe it because it is absurd."; the proper Latin quotation Credo quia absurdum est, is from the Christian apologist Tertullian (140-230), who rejected rationalism and accepted a Gospel which addressed itself to the "non-rational levels of perception." -

Re: hang tags / luggage tags
Mon, August 18, 2008 - 9:50 PMIt actually started in Virginia as a satire if you will. The blue collar workers weren't good enough for the likes of the Masons and other organizations of the times. After awhile it kind of died out, only to be revived as a Benevolent orginization during the days of the gold rush in California. To protect the "widders and orphens" of miners who died in the diggens. With new mining laws and regulations, ECV once again died out. In 1931 I think it was, E Clampus Vitus was once again revived but as a Fraternal organization. This time dedicated to the history of the old West, The Mining, Railroad, and People who helped build the West. Some famous, some infamous, some obscure, some obsurd. We still believe in the most important thing, "To protect the widder and orphan" espescially the widder.
Credo Quia Absudum!!!!!

Re: hang tags / luggage tags

Hang Tags - FINAL CALL!
Wed, September 3, 2008 - 7:22 AMOK - so really - this is the final call for hang tags. Did you get a playa name that didn't make it onto your hangtag? Did you not find me and get a chance to make one? I have leftover supplies here and for the next week I will make you a couple and snail mail them to you. I just need the info that you want on them
Playa Name
Playa Address
Default World Name
Default World Address
Default World Phone
Default World Email
You pick and choose how much info you want on them. Sunday Joe made a few extra - said he would use them as luggage tags for his trip back to Jersey. It's a great souvenir of Stag Camp 08....
Thanks again to all of you - I had an incredible week and can't wait to return! -
-
Re: Hang Tags - FINAL CALL!
Wed, September 3, 2008 - 2:07 PMjust throwing this out there....
can't exactly messure how much john(mzfit) kicks ass. this guy brought everything and anything that could possibly be usefull...not to mention a bunch of stuff that made me pretty useless most of the time! john is the man in my book. i hope you all got a chance to spend at least a little time with this generous individual! john you rock...we WILL be talking.... -
-
Re: Hang Tags - FINAL CALL!
Wed, September 3, 2008 - 3:18 PMJason - thank you VERY much.
I had read a lot in advance and wanted to do all that I could to be a participant and not a spectator or tourist. That was an important distinction for me! In fact - I didn't use my camera as much as I wanted because I was uncomfortable pulling it out so much. Still - I had a great time and got some good pics - hopefully I can have them up on photobucket tonight or tomorrow
